It's our selfish nature that created the illusion of a soul.
Well thank you Ryan.I happen to believe that who you are does exist seperate from your ability to reason, seperate from your physical being and seperate from what your brain does. So I promise to be very careful with it until you should want it. And if not that's ok too. It'll be safe with me regardless. You know Ryan THERE IS NOT ANOTHER HUMAN BEING ON THE PLANET LIKE YOU. That is your soul. Who you are. What makes you different from everybody else. So anyway, I'll leave you to bang on about this does it or doesn't it argument that you are so good at. Stuff that I have neither the mental agility or the patience for, but I'll keep your soul safe. Just sing out if you want it back.

Oops! BTW I don't think it's selfish to believe in the soul. I don't know that it's an illusion either.NOPE!!!

I've had a billion experiences in a configuration different than anyone else. That is why there is no one on the planet like me, or anyone else. Because the possibilities of experience are so vast.I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. So the impact of another soul cannot effect or change yours?NOPE!!!

maybe i had an epiphany or something. i look back several years and see the bad things that have happened to be yet it never changed me. once again i'm trying to explain something words cannot explain.

Absolutely. I agree. But strip all that away. When you die Ryan, all that dies with you. We will never see the sum total of all those billion experiences in the same way in another individual EVER. Not in my life time, not in a hundred years from now, not even a hundred years in the past. UNIQUE. One of a kind. All that is you, dies with you. That is soul, I think. So I'm a keeping yours safe.NOPE!!!

no. for example; my parents will die and i will mourn; but it will not change my being.0 -

that makes no sense at all. are you picking words out of a dictionary to appear highly educated?
what is synthetic happiness. happiness is a feeling. if you feel happiness is synthetic then you have not experienced true happiness.0 -

Ok, so I am my soul and when I die my soul dies, then how can you have it? I don't understand. That defies the traditional definition of a soul that survives in a metaphysical plane after death.I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. Dan Gilbert is a psychology professor at Harvard, and author of Stumbling on Happiness. In this memorable talk, filmed at TED2004, he demonstrates just how poor we humans are at predicting (or understanding) what will make us happy. (Recorded July 2005 in Oxford, UK. Duration: 22:02)
Actually, he explains what synthetic happiness is and how it's just as potent as real happiness. My guess is real happiness is the immediate gratification received by a stimulus, like sex makes us happy immediately.I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. Where is my happiness?

"From both of the experiments, happiness and the left prefrontal lobe is even more clearly linked."
Yea, anyway, I can quote scientific journals and facts all day. Are you ever going to believe it? Probably not.I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. Onelongsong,
Do you know anything about chronic depression? Do you know that it's caused by altered levels of seratonin in the prefrontal cortex of the brain? Did you know that doctors prescribe Selective Seratonin Re-uptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) to counteract the negative effects of low seratonin on happiness?I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. first; show me how he is infallable. show me how he is all knowing and all seeing. show me how his theory is accepted by all.
i can show you the rantings of madmen throughout time. those thought to be all knowing. the top in their fields. only to have their rantings shot down in flames.
so in this speach he claims to know me. he knows my mind and how it works. nice trick. does he use a crystal ball?0 -

No crystal ball. It's called scientific research.I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. do you know i do nutritional research? do you know i raise buffalo;
Martin Marchello at the Carrington Research Extension Center has found that grassfed bison have as much as four times more selenium (an essential trace mineral) than grainfed bison. Eating just three ounces of grassfed bison, for example, can give you over 100 mcg. of selenium, which is several times the daily minimum requirement.
Most of the selenium research has focused on its potential to reduce the risk of cancer, but a 1990 study found that selenium also promotes a sunnier disposition! In this study, volunteers were given either 100 micrograms of selenium or a sugar pill. Those who were given the selenium noticed an improved mood in just two weeks. Eating a small portion of grassfed bison on a daily basis should produce the same results.
Benton, D. and R. Cook (1990). "Selenium supplementation improves mood in a double-blind crossover trial." Psychopharmacology 102(4): 549-50.
moods change. we are not talking about the same thing. happiness has nothing to do with moods.0 -

Well I would suggest that it would. Just as the arrival and recognition of another soul into your life can impact you. With love for instance. Or grief. Or pain.NOPE!!!

I'm pretty sure happiness falls into the catagory 'mood'.
What the hell do I know though? You are the bison expert.
Dopamine. It's good for happiness.I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. Your nature is to do harm, mine is to love truth, and to make it public in spite of you. - Voltaire0 -

mood is temporary. you can wake up in a great mood and walk outside to see you have a flat tire. your mood will change but it shouldn't change your inner happiness.0 -
