no, but its not just america, remember, there are other places on earth.

Right, but the other places on earth are making an effort. America's pollution control is one of the worst. Lower than China.

Do you live in those places? Do you have a vote in those places? Do you pay taxes in those places? When they fuck up the environment, are they doing it in your name and with your money? Do you have any voice, any say at all in what those places do? Because I don't .... which is why I focus my attention on the one place on earth where my voice is supposed to count for something.

You don't have to worry about Islam.

Pollution kills people, why you are talking about cities is beyond me, I think you are just twisting words around because you are quite obviously wrong on this issue.

Well I can ramble off 24 countries that have a better public education system that the US. I'm sorry to burst your bubble but America is not the only great country to live in on this planet. There are plenty of other countries that offer the same opportunities and freedoms as this country. Secondly why shouldn't I come down hard on my own country for it's lack of action regardling pollution and global climate change. This is the country I live in and would like for it to be the best possible country it can be.
our public education system sucks b/c its government controlled, i agree that we should always try and make our country the best it could be, never said i didnt.

No but if we don't do something about the pollutants we keep pumping into the air, people will not be able to live in the cities.

A few years ago they did a study in the NYC area where they gave pregnant women a back-pack to carry around. In that back-pack there was equipement that measured the amount of carcinagines in the air they where breathing. Out of all the women who particpiated in this study, I believe, it was something like 60-65% of their children developed asthma in their early childhood. Somewhere around 20% of the children had severe respitory problems. This is not a coinsidence.

That's funny, because all of the education systems that are better than ours are government controlled too.

It's government controlled in the 24 other countries. Some of those countries are even 3rd world countries. So much for the We are the Best attitude. Can't really be that grteat if some poverty stricken 3rd World country is educating their kids better than we are.

  • here in the mountains of arizona, we depend on getting snow in the winter so we have a snowpack in the spring. we have a very dry period from may to july, which is typically our fire season. then we get monsoon rains in july (hopefully). if we get less snow in the winter, then we don't have that snowpack on the ground and things dry out very quickly, increasing the chance of wildfire. to compound this problem, as temperatures increase we get less snow and more rain out of any given storm. rain doesn't do us as much good as snow.

our "average" snowfall for a season is over 100 inches. so far this year we're at 44, and it's all gone because it's been in the 60s and 70s here for the last 3 weeks.

less snow=increased fire danger. global warming=less snow. get it?
id like you to check out the temperature differences in just the past few years there in your hometown, im gonna guess its not more than 2 degree difference, and that doesnt have anything to do with the fact that you got less snow, you just had an unlucky dry winter.

  • wow, you have a real problem jumping to conclusions. no one said we would do away with cities...that would never be a possibility at this point (although it may be a good solution...i dunno).

although i would argue that there are some cities that could stand to go, from a sustainability standpoint. any huge metropolitan area in the middle of the desert is probably going to have some hard times in the next century, as water becomes more scarce.
well i guess we will have to start converting saltwater to fresh water, since, ya know those polar icecaps are all gonna melt, leading to surging sea levels!!

?? i wouldnt go that far, i hope you are being sarcastic, i think there are alot of problems with our school system, considering the damaging effect that teachers unions have on them, that could be the biggest problem.

Both of my children attended public school. The youngest one graduates this year. The older one went on to a private university, where she graduated summa cum laude with numerous honors and joined Phi Beta Kappa, and is now completing her first year of law school, so it seems her public school education served her quite well.
