well, hybrid cars could be a solution, ethanol could be a stopgap, these are things that could possibly be big things down the road, remember we as a people are very stubborn, and dont like to change b/c some politician tells us to, i think if some of these advances so to be positive, then more people will invest in these changes.

wait a minute, I'm confused...if you think global warming is a myth, then why would you support these efforts....?

we were also warned in the 1970's of the next ice age fastly approaching, that never happened, and the acid rain stuff....whatever happened to that? seems like we are still chugging along just fine, to me, it just seems a little to early to tell if we really are making this global warming, i mean look at the 1920-1960 time frame, and i think we were a lot more careless then enviorment wise and there was no global warming then...

global warming will bring another ice age. that's how the earth will cleanse itself. the ice water entering the oceans will change the current that brings warm water north and south. this is what keeps the nothern part and southern part of the globe warm. the massive storms will pull the pollution from the air and deposit it on the ground. this is proven with ice core samples. it's the way earth has always cleansed itself. the extreme cold pulled down from the upper atmosphere will cause snow and extremely cold temperatures. it is at this point the snow and ice will start reflecting heat back into space and the earth will start to balance itself again.

if you want to look at 1920 to 1960; what was the population then? WWII killed most of the male population. thus; the baby boom to repopulate. how many cars were there from 1920 to 1960 as compared to 1960 to 2007? how many people are heating their homes now compared to then? do we have more businesses now compared to then? how many trees were cut down to build houses then compared to now? if there's no acid rain; what killed the forests?

that's just a few things to think about.
  • i think i just get tired of the hate america crowd, all of this global warming hysteria is centered around how foolish and wasteful we are, im not saying we are perfect, but i think we are doing a good job of atleast listening to people and their ideas to make this earth a better place, all the news is so negative all the time and it creates this anger among us that our country sucks, ive listened to both sides and it really seems to me that global warming is something that, if in fact is happening, we dont control it.

i think MAN MADE global warming is a myth, i think eventually hybrid cars and alternate fuels such as ethanol, which is used in brazil, could help us not rely on oil from our buddies in the middle east.

what? we are listening to people and their ideas to make this a better place? our energy legislation is written by oil executives. How does that make it a better place for anyone except for them and their shareholders?

good points, so you agree with me about the myth of man made global warming>? it seems like you contradict yourself from the first paragraph to the next, while i agree about the population increase, what i meant to say, (sorry if it didnt come out that way) is that we are doing alot more to protect the earth now than opposed to back then.

Don't forget the sheer number of men (& women) killed by WWI and the other associated conflicts like the Russian Civil War. One must also consider the de-forestation efforts that have occurred in Africa, Asia and South America in the post WWII period. The movement of industry from the First World to the Third World in the same time frame is also a contributing factor in the increased amounts of pollutants entering the atmosphere. The widespread use of PCBs, increased use of insecticides and the advent of strip-mining for coal are all important factors that really begin to accumulate and hit us in the post-1960 era.

Sure, we're happy to talk and listen, as long as we don't have to actually DO anything, or sacrifice anything. Americans act like it's their birthright to drive giant off-road vehicles, even if the furthest they ever get off the road is the mall parking lot. Heaven forbid any of us should ever get chilly and have to put on a sweater, or feel the tiniest bit warm in the summer. Sure, lots of people recycle, but plenty more can't be bothered. Here at work there is a bin for recycling paper that's next to the copy machine, and next to that is a garbage can. Every single fucking day I watch people stand there and toss their papers in the garbage. There's another bin for aluminum cans, and maybe half the people here use it. We won't pressure our government to raise efficiency standards, we won't support public transportation, we keep moving further and further into the countryside, building new and colossally inefficient neighborhoods, destroying the homes of our wildlife.

Yes, there are people who are aware and doing something about the problem to whatever degree they are able and I feel a lot of gratitude towards those people, but there are millions and millions who are oblivious, or just don't care about anyone but themselves.

considering the influence of oil and our culture, i would say its not surprising nor a terribly bad thing.

why do we all believe it?? i personally think its a joke, thoughts and comments.....

We believe it because the average person doesn't have the knowledge or tools to determine if it's true or not. So we use our tax dollars to hire trained professionals, supply them with the tools and then take their word for it.

if i know what you are talking about, (alternate fuels, hybrid cars?) you dont, im just saying that these technological advances could help us be more energy independent.

considering the influence of oil and our culture, i would say its not surprising nor a terribly bad thing.

it's not a bad thing that the companies that provide the largest polluting fuel writes laws about pollution? what is next, tobacco and alcohol companies writing health care legislation?
just remember that we have all these luxuries that others dont b/c we as a people worked our asses off for generations to get where we are, we are best country on the planet and it goes to show the benefits of capitalism, although it seems more and more like we are headed to socialism.

So that means we get to do whatever we want to the earth just because we had a couple hundred good years out of the hundreds of millions that the earth has been around?

sorry then i must have misread your post a bit. I personally dont' think it matters if you think man is or isn't responsible for global warming, we should do it b/c it's the right thing to do.
