why do we all believe it?? i personally think its a joke, thoughts and comments.....

We believe it because the average person doesn't have the knowledge or tools to determine if it's true or not. So we use our tax dollars to hire trained professionals, supply them with the tools and then take their word for it.

Sure, we're happy to talk and listen, as long as we don't have to actually DO anything, or sacrifice anything. Americans act like it's their birthright to drive giant off-road vehicles, even if the furthest they ever get off the road is the mall parking lot. Heaven forbid any of us should ever get chilly and have to put on a sweater, or feel the tiniest bit warm in the summer. Sure, lots of people recycle, but plenty more can't be bothered. Here at work there is a bin for recycling paper that's next to the copy machine, and next to that is a garbage can. Every single fucking day I watch people stand there and toss their papers in the garbage. There's another bin for aluminum cans, and maybe half the people here use it. We won't pressure our government to raise efficiency standards, we won't support public transportation, we keep moving further and further into the countryside, building new and colossally inefficient neighborhoods, destroying the homes of our wildlife.

Yes, there are people who are aware and doing something about the problem to whatever degree they are able and I feel a lot of gratitude towards those people, but there are millions and millions who are oblivious, or just don't care about anyone but themselves.

considering the influence of oil and our culture, i would say its not surprising nor a terribly bad thing.

it's not a bad thing that the companies that provide the largest polluting fuel writes laws about pollution? what is next, tobacco and alcohol companies writing health care legislation?

So that means we get to do whatever we want to the earth just because we had a couple hundred good years out of the hundreds of millions that the earth has been around?

sorry then i must have misread your post a bit. I personally dont' think it matters if you think man is or isn't responsible for global warming, we should do it b/c it's the right thing to do.

we worked our asses off to destroy this planet and did a great job. we can't breathe because of the pollution; we can't re-forest because the acid rain kills the plants. we can't eat wild fish anymore because of PCBs or mercury.
we did a great job of it; that's for sure.

you see, this is the real threat to our country, people like you, what should we do? we cant just get up tommorow morning and change everything that we MIGHT think is wrong, it takes alot of time, alot of political manuvering, and alot of our tax dollars to find out the best possible solution.

Who are the people who are saying we should all hop out of bed tomorrow morning to a completely different world? Blackredyellow didn't say that. I haven't heard Al Gore say that. I haven't heard ANYONE say it. I've heard plenty of people saying that we need to start putting things in place now BECAUSE it's not something that can be done overnight.

I'm a threat to our country? coming from someone who said that it makes sense for oil executives to write our energy policy.

You wanna see the auto industry and the energy companies come together and create a new, cleaner way for transportation? Here is what we do:

Pass a law that by 2015 all new vehicles must either be powered by alternative fuels or if gasoline powered, must get 100 miles per gallon or they can't be sold or registered in the US.

We put people into space, we can track down someone with gps to a square foot, we create weapons that we can fly a missle through a house window fro a thousand miles away, we can wirelessly beam signals across the globe in an instant.... I find it impossible to believe that we haven't been able to develop a better means of transportation in the last 120 years then an internal combustion engine.

And what is this talk about hating america? Because people want things to change they hate america? give me a break.

we cant change our ways in such a drastic measure just b/c a movie comes out by some politician claiming that greenland will be no more in 20 yrs. If we are going to make changes, then it has to make sense to everyone, not just liberals, b/c this is what this debate has sadly morphed into, a liberal/conservative issue, next thing you know we are going to have carbon footprint meters on everyones house.

we have developed different means of transportation but it hasnt been economically feasable to introduce it to the marketplace, im all for minimium fuel effiency standards to be put back in place.

im guessing that you live in the united states? if you hate it so much, why havent you moved to a better country? that gives freedom to their people to choose and do how they please? i know you think our freedoms are a bad thing, and that government should tell us how to do everything, so why not go somewhere where that available.

Well I can ramble off 24 countries that have a better public education system that the US. I'm sorry to burst your bubble but America is not the only great country to live in on this planet. There are plenty of other countries that offer the same opportunities and freedoms as this country. Secondly why shouldn't I come down hard on my own country for it's lack of action regardling pollution and global climate change. we were also warned in the 1970's of the next ice age fastly approaching, that never happened, and the acid rain stuff....whatever happened to that? seems like we are still chugging along just fine, to me, it just seems a little to early to tell if we really are making this global warming, i mean look at the 1920-1960 time frame, and i think we were a lot more careless then enviorment wise and there was no global warming then...
The global cooling theory of the 70's was never a concensus amongst scientists. It was a coupld of climatologists which is very different from the amount of data we now have and the amount of global concensus amongst climate scientists. Acid rain wasn't supposed to kill us all but it has come at the cost of the contamination and much environmental harm that has damaged forests and contaminated water systems. It would be hard for anyone 50 years ago to believe that we would not eat food out of many of our major rivers, drink its water or swim in it. There has been much environmental harm that is still a problem today.
