I don't get your point. You're saying Prop 8 may be wrong, but the opposing side shouldn't be angered/frustrated/attempt to change that. If no one gets frustrated about it, then the wrong law stays on the books indefinitely.

YOU LOST. Go to your congressman, make signs and stand on the street...

Would this honestly be your response if your rights were taken away and you were openly discriminated against in this manner? The answer is obviously no.

Is "butthurt" supposed to be a funny pun about homosexuals because if it is, it is falling far short of the mark.

What I don't understand is why people in CA are holding huge protests that are getting out of hand (arrests etc)

Prop 8 passed because the PEOPLE voted it that way, if you wanted NO on prop 8 you should have gotten more people to vote for your side.

I can see people being upset if the State just passed it, but the people have spoken, majority rule, sorry stop complaining about it.
stop complaining about it? people are right to be upset. if some law got passed discriminating against me as a hispanic, or as a woman, you better fucking believe i'd be out in the streets throwing a huge fit! wouldn't be destroying property, but as an american citizen, one has the right to speak out.

of course the religious right would LOVE to have people just sit down and shut up. only speak up if you believe in the bible or see things their way. bunch of damned socialists.

i say keep the civil disobedience going. the more noise the better.

'wouldn't be destroying property' exactly what I'm saying...

protesting, speaking out is our right... destroying shit because we didnt get our own way is not... THATS what i'm saying. All it does is make your side look even more foolish and stupid.

everyone in this country knows how the system is set up, so either work within it or vote for people who will change it .. but i mean, you could always do something more constructive... like screaming, smashing public property and getting arrested... yeeeehhhhh

you said "stop complaining about it". so did you mean just acting out in an illegal manner, or protesting in general?

people can work within the system, but the system also allows for civil disobedience. it worked in the 60s with the civil rights movement...no reason it shouldn't be employed now.

Apparently it is intended to be some sort of homophobic pun. Using butthurt explains why the poster isn't worried about this particular class' civil rights.

"Majority rules" simply doesn't apply when deciding whether or not to violate the rights of a class of people.

Someone once said that majority rule doesn't always work, especially if you have 4 wolves and one lamb and your voting to see if lamb chops will be served for dinner.

In my opinion, YES, stop complaining about it. You lost a vote. You know what you should go work for now... getting another vote then trying to get it voted your way or trying to get the vote overturned within the system.

Again, thats my opinion, if people want to protest, fine... they can and its perfectly legal. But when destruction occurs, sorry, you're wrong and stupid and you are now just making yourself look like a moron.

I am not anti-gay or anti-equal rights, i'm anti-stupid fucking morons who think their voice should be heard just because its the loudest and they can smash the most shit

i don't agree with destruction of property. one can protest and express disdain without destroying what belongs to other people. standing in front of city hall or the state capitol and getting arrested for not moving? i got NO problem with that. this isn't a matter of a town not getting a speed bump installed....this is about basic human rights. being treated as a human being. so yeah, it's a little serious....and people are going to be up in arms about it. as they should be.

and i feel you, i'm anti-moron too....that's why i'm mad that the moron majority passed 8.

And the legal challenges have started already. Yes destruction of property and violent behavior should not be tolerated but you can't judge a whole portion of society, or simply dismiss their cause, simply because of the actions of a few.

You make it seem like this is a plausible issue. It's basic rights and welfare we're discussing. We're not arguing over something that has a grey area, this is black and white.

Did you find it offensive when blacks or women would protest before they had equal rights or freedoms that everyone is entitled too? Were they acting out and just complaining til they got their way? You're position is advocating discrimination and against everything the Bill of Rights is for.

You're backtracking from what you were previously saying, was that since 'majority rule' spoke in California, that was the end of it. So you should get what you're saying straight. Do you mean people shouldn't protest, or people should riot and hurt other people? Because there's not much point to arguing the second part. But that's not what you were saying. Here, look below...

Mammasan: so if the majority of people in your state voted to prohibit interracial couples from getting married it should just be accepted because of majority rule.

You: Yes. Thats the point of voting for something.

Thats the system we have, voice your opinion, the side with more votes wins...

    Sorry, just saying

i suggest you read further into the thread... acting like children isnt part of the system. People, in this case the gays, gay right supporters etc. are acting like children and being crybabies. DO IT THE CORRECT WAY

i'm done commenting about this. I said what i wanted, even explained that im not anti-gay etc. you going on about this is just more baaawwwwwing.

it seems like this (this thread) is turning into a cryfest just for the sake of doing it

so what is the correct way, beyond petitioning and pursuing legal action? is public outcry not an accepted form of protest? it's only acceptable if it doesn't involve being out in public and getting attention?

i don't get the impression you're anti-gay, but i'm confused as to whether you're aware that american citizens have the right to protest?

    Listen up here.

My original post was prompted by seeing this thread and also seeing on television how there are "protests" going on in CA and the two other states where Prop 8 and measures like it were passed. (AZ and another state) Too bad it was more 'stand on police cars, throw things, break stuff, scream' than actual protesting. Very few people had signs, i assume probably NO ONE had permits to protest... in fact , the only way you could tell it was a protest and not some other public nuisance problem was the fact some people were yelling about gays and the prompt on the TV said what it was.

So yes, the gays/supporters LOST and are now COMPLAINING AND CRYING about it. It's no longer a protest for change etc when its 90% hooligans and douchebaggery... so yes it is crying. So to that I say STOP COMPLAINING

If you (they) were serious about their cause and getting it the way they wanted it they would do it the correct way. All that they are doing now is get put in jail, get fined, and make even MORE people think they are nuts and just solidifies their beliefs that voting Prop 8 was a good decision.

I dont care who got wronged, blah blah blah... you do it the way they are doing it right now I'm going to waltz in, call everyone douchebags and tell then to stop their fucking complaining...

That is a small fraction of the gay community and it's supporters engaging in destruction of property. For the most part there has been civil demonstrations and they are going about it the right way, they went to court. You are taking the actions of a few assholes and basically dismissing the entire cause. And of course you don't care who got wronged because it wasn't you. Of course you don't fucking care because it's not you that is being discriminated against. I hope to God you never have to go through that because then i'll have to tell you to shut the fuck up and stop your bitching.
