he said that if he is told he is needed, he will be there, but for now it is important for the campaign and debates to go on to see who is going to deal with this in the future.

Obama also said they both have big shiny planes, and if they are in Washington, they can coth get to Mississippi pretty quick.

I used to respect Mccain for his story, now I see him as a complete scumbag.

This announcement by Mccain is going going to crash world markets even further. It sends a message to everyone that, "wow, this crisis is so bad, that one of the guys in the know actually has to suspend his presidential campaign (an historical reaction) to deal with it”

Mccain is literally putting his politics above the sake of our economy. He is a disgrace.

Well, he does shoot from the hips. These are the types of unorthodox decisions (Palin as VP, delaying debates) that show what we can expect from a McCain presidency.

I just don't understand ... I think brain of jlo hit the nail when she mentioned he was talking to Bono today ...

This crisis started early last week ... why NOW does McCain feel the need to run back to Washington and cancel the debate? Why make a statement that took everyone by surprise, not just Obama, but his own staff.

Honestly, this plan does need more vetting, if not, scrapped all together ... but ... why wasn't McCain in Washington LAST week if he felt it was so urgent?

Being that he came fromt the bottom of his Naval class he may have needed to tkae some time to study this whole financial and economic problem.

McCain has said "I would rather loose the election then loose the war".....looks like a leader to me.

No, they have people there and technology that allows you to be anywhere.

And how does one "loose", I assume you meant lose an occupation?

Not an Obama supporter but if the vote was to come down on Friday couldn't they simply fly to Washington vote on it and then fly back to Mississippi for the debate, or if the voting process was going to last into the night decide to cancel the debate at that time. I mean it's not like we are in the 1700's where they travel by horse and carriage and it would take days to get to DC. They could be in Washington in a couple of hours.

I'd hope Obama would study up as well, hes had very little opportunity to deal with real economic decisions. Always aksing for money doesn't help one understand where money comes from.

Obama said he could handle two things at once ... THAT sounds like a leader to me.

They have staffs in Washington, they are staiyng in touch. Obama stated he's talked with Paulsen several times over the last few days. Obama stated, if congress needs him in DC, he'd be there.

If anything, I'd argue that having McCain and Obama there would only upset the balance of trying to get this done ...

No offense, man, but you've got to ease up on those talking points a bit. Just because Senator McCain says it doesn't make it true, just like when Senator Obama says something doesn't make it true.

I'm wondering when it was today, after a week of frantic activity regarding the crisis on Wall Street and the proposed bailout, after all that, McCain, who's not as far as I know a member of the Banking and Finance Committee...he suddenly had this realization that he was needed in Washington. Was it during debate prep? He's meeting with Bono? I think even the most conservative observer would have to view this as being at least in large part political posturing.

And Obama needs to come back harder. Take control, man! Bring the debate to Washington. No audience if it has to be that way. Concentrate it on the economy.

This was either a political gamble that will likely backfire, or he really can't do two things at once.

Did you know that they have done research and it showed that highly intelligent people were effected by loud noises when they had to try and concentrate on something to a much greater extent than people that were less fortunate in the brain department?

Like turning down your radio when you are trying to figure out which exit to take or road to turn on etc.

So, that grandfather would be a smartypants...so is McCain maybe then. ;)

Asking for what money and I'm sure he's more that ready to address this economic crisis that ALL these politicians knew was going to happen. Paulson the troll is the same who drew up this economic plan is the same one begging to have this 700 million passed through quickly.

Hard to trust any of these politicians.

i love how conservatoves have THE FUCKING BALLS to mention anything about spending or over spending

Reagan, GHW, and the GW administrations have spent like drunk sailors and have BANKRUPTED the fucking country

so thats enough bullshit lies and lines about the "tax and spend democrats"... can anyone see past the talking points and false one liners anymore?

how anyone can vote republican in this election is BEYOND me... totally unbelievable to me

the reality is the "cut the wealhty's taxes and spend everything" republicans are the problem folks... these are the same guys that cut taxes while heading into a "world wide war against terror" and have two theaters of war operating at once

i am convinced that republicans and their voters are just not that bright. like PT Barnum said, "there is a sucker born every minute".. and i think the GOP has the market cornered

The problem with more recent conservatives (I believe it began with Reagan) is that they cut taxes and increase spending. For the most part, this doesn't seem to work. Democrats tax and spend, which also doesn't always work. But I don't think it's a coincidence that during the last Democratic administration we had a surplus and the two eight-year conservative terms between we ballooned our deficit.

"Tax and Spend" is just a one liner used by the GOP for decades now...

the only Democratic lead administration of the last 28 years cut spending (including the military and intelligence budgets) and balanced the budget to the tune of a surplus

"tax and spend" is nothing but a lie... there is nothing in the last 28 years to back it up
