    This is the one that annoys me. Yes, Cornell's music is changing. But there is such a thing as bad change. And this is a prime example of the worst kind of change.

    #8: I'm sure there will be the obligatory Cornell Koolaide drinker who'll swoop in here and defend this song to it's death (which won't be far off, hopefully) as Cornell growing and expanding and there's nothing wrong with artists changing but you'd serve yourselves and Cornell much better if you were honest.

    Yeah, this is very annoying.

    Let me preface by saying that I kind of like the music. His vocals sound good and I've always had a soft spot for Timbaland. But let's stop kidding ourselves, this isn't thinking outside of the box or growing as an artist or finding new areas to tackle. It just reeks of a bid at the Billboard Hot 100-mainstream. I think Timbaland is a great producer, and him and Cornell might have really laid down some impressive songs with great beats. Whilst I can't pass judgement because the whole album isn't out yet (evne though it's sounding like I am :p), from the sounds of it we've just got trademark Timbaland songs with Cornell singing over them. Is it really the best they could come up with?

    Like I said, I'm quite a fan of this new music. But it's the same way that I'm a fan of Umbrella or Sexy Back or The Way I Are. It's generic, inoffensive pop that's fun to listen to and goes in one ear and out the other. For me, that isn't the type of music that I heard in TOTD, Soundgarden, Audioslave or even his other solo records.

    That's exactly how I feel right now. It may suck but it has been stuck in my head all weekend. Only because Umbrella, Sexyback etc . . . would do the exact same fucking thing to me.

    That said, when I have to hear someone listen to a horrible radio station, at least I'll get Cornell over the beat as opposed to One Republic or something. :D

    It seems Cornell has released an album full of "throwaways"....Face it people it is rubbish and Cornell has committed career suicide.

    Even in terms of light weight pop music it aint that good! I was a little worried way back when he was modelling jeans, but now it seems he is wearing his motivations on his sleeve.

    And the hide of the guy to have such a high opinion of himself...every interview he has he brags on about how he is pushing boundaries and how daring he is...IMO Soundgarden were good, not the best of big grunge bands but still good, but what he has done in the past is not enough for him to rest on his laurels and say, well I've proven myself, and "we pushed the most boundaries of all the Seattle bands" so that affords me the right to "sell out" and do what I want...I'm sorry Chris but channelling Zeppelin for half of your career and then morphing into Sammy Hagar along the way just does'nt really cut it for me. He has proven himself inferior to his peers in the rock industry by putting this crap out there.

    The guy is finished, thinks he's just "beautiful" and has turned into a cheeseball!

    IMO Even if he does turn back to his roots (which is not gonna happen) it's not gonna be the same and there will always be that bitter aftertaste of that crap he'd put out.

    I totally disagree. This is more a case of how you feel about the guy than what he actually said in that interview. For a start he never said "me" or singled himself out in the interview you are referring to nor in any other interview I've heard. He referred to the band (SG) as a whole pushing the boundaries of the Seattle sound-which they did. Honestly I think you are either foolish, blind or jealous if you can't see SG as a progressive band in the Seattle sound. I totally agree with him-credit where its due.

    What SG achived in the 13 years they were together is all I could ever ask of Cornell. If he never writes another album like Superunknown again I could hardly hold it against him.

    oh geez... where do I begin. It's bad enough that I held off judgement for this "collaboration" giving Chris the benefit of the doubt, and what I thought would happen, happened after all. I don't know what he's thinking, it's not innovative, I don't care if he's excited (cause clearly, he has no idea what he's talking about anymore). He seemed excited about Carry On too and remember what that album sounded like?? I'm not Chris' biggest fan or anything, but I did respect him as a musician and a vocalist. Now he's reaching for the wrong market. Whatever happened to aging gracefully? Soundgarden were great. Euphoria Morning was good, but I don't listen to it that often to be honest. Audioslave were iffy, but now this second stab at a solo career is hurting my ears. I don't own Carry On, but heard enough of it to be so disappointed that it's the same Chris Cornell that fronted Soundgarden for god's sakes! And for some people who say it was better when he was depressed or on drugs, I think its absurd, and a dangerous notion to put forth. Obviously its better that Chris is healthy than be a potential wreck, but you could make great music, happy or sad. But this music is just begging to be accepted by an audience who I bet has no clue who he is. Yeah sure, call Ryan Seacrest's show, but I'm sure the listeners were like, "WHO??". Wrong audience buddy. I don't see this thing selling much in the long run. Hopefully he'll come to his senses solo or not solo. Who to blame now?? The second wife??

    I think, no matter what, comparing your work to an album of such high esteem and acclaim is a horribly cocky thing to do. Dark Side of the Moon is a landmark album, if you want to compare your work to it, your music better be fuckin' good. "Long Gone" barely beats out his work on Carry On.

    Agreed. Chris Cornell just came across as a fucking retard on that one. Most techno/dance albums have songs that blend in and out of eachother too, are they all like Dark Side of the Moon? Its hardly any kind of innovation, or even a significant point to make about the music. So basically the album is one shitty song that blends into another shitty song after another. So its one big pile of shit. I'm sold, can't wait to buy it, douchebag.

    This is the most pathetic post I've ever read. Isn't it the MUSIC you like, not the person? Cornell could become a Michael Jackson and I would still love his great catolog of music. I'd still listen to Soundgarden and the rest of his stuff as much as I do now, because thats the music I love the most. I don't have any mental barriers that have to be met in order to like the music I enjoy.

    That being said, I've checked out these three songs more and they've actually grown on me a bit. Not too shaby. This kind of music doesn't have the staying power of rock music for me, but I do like it. I still play songs from Justin Timberlake's album on my Ipod fairly often. I'm just still waiting to hear the ultra-cool beats on this one like on all the singles from Timberlake's album or Furtado's album. Furtado's Say it Right has a great vibe, if there's a song that good on Cornell's album, I'll be happy with it.
