Amazing band. I'm not even going to try and list the best as there are too many. Still get goose bumps when The Rover starts up. Saw them in 74 or 75 and my ears whistled for 3 days.

Nobody has come close to being as good!
  • Ten Years Gone, still one of my favorite rock songs ever. Led Zeppelin is a permanent member of my top five bands (as is Pearl Jam).

That's a tough question. Either I or II. Or III. Then there's IV. Ah hell do I have to pick one? ;)

I agree. My mon is a highschool teacher and she tells me that the kids listen to and love Zeppelin, Hendrix, and the Doors. It is like this music is being discovered all over again. I get the impression they want something good and REAL. They are tired of all this disposable MTV shit.

Well, I hate to say it, but I graduated from high school last summer and I can say with certainty that 90% of the kids who listen to that kind of classic rock just do it because it's becoming a mini-fad and they like to wear the t-shirts that say Led Zeppelin on them. Most of them probably couldn't name more than 5 Zep songs. :(

Anyway, I really like Zep and own most of their albums... but being a youngster myself, they're definitely not untouchable in my eyes. I can't deny their musical talent and historic influence, but most of their music isn't my cup of tea unless I'm in the right mood.

  • Here's a thought I had about Jimmy Page the other day. I think he should be inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame under the non-performers section as Zeppelin's producer in addition to his inductions as a performer with the Zeppelin and the Yardbirds

Eh, I don't know. They were definitely untouchable for their time, but I think their formula has been improved on since then. Of course, like I said before, they did CREATE that formula, and I give them all the credit in the world for that. But I just feel that bands like Pearl Jam and Soundgarden make better music... that is, music that I personally enjoy more.

Fair enough that it doesn't always suit you, but watch teh How the West Was Won DVD and then say they are not untouchable.
Every time I watch it I am just humiliated by how good PAge was. The acoustic set is just sublime !!
Did you ever see better acoustic playing than Bron-y-ar Stomp ??
    Music is not a competetion.

    Not to interrupt the current conversation, but I'm curious;

What would have become of Zeppelin had John not died? Would they have eventually broke up? What would their music have sounded like say, in the 80's?

I respectfully disagree with you when you say Pearl Jam and Soundgarden make better music than Led Zeppelin. but I, like you, enjoy Pearl Jam more than Zeppelin. but not Soundgarden though.

Yea, the Beatles were fucking amazing too. Untouchable in a very different way. But if I had to pick, and only if I was forced, I'd still probably have to go with Zeppelin. Then the Beatles.

How Many More Times is a mind blower. So much emotion. Love Zep but burned myself out on it by listening to it almost not stop from age 12 - 24. My first Zep Album was The Song Remains the Same, vinyl of course. Still own it at 42.

But did you really burn yourself out on it, or were you just taking a break? I am going through a phrase where I don't listen to them as much. I hit hard like yourself from around 12-mid 20's. They are so great because you can listen to them any time and not be disappointed.

My brother made me a two tapes, one of Led Zeppelin II on one side and IV on the other. The other tape had Houses of the Holy and In Through the Out Door. Saved me from a life of shitty hair bands!!!

How Many More Times is great, right now Sick Again and Out On The Tiles are doing it for me.
