I'm not generally one to start these types of thread and I figured that the board probably had one of these threads, but I searched and couldn't find one, and figured, that the best band of all time certainly were deserving their own official thread.

LED ZEPPELIN.

They are the absolute greatest, and this thread is in tribute and for appreciating their awesomeness. Come here to praise and talk about this monumental and influential band.

Fuck, they are so good.

Songs of theirs I'm into right now:
How Many More Times
Your Time is Gonna Come
Since I've Been Loving You
Battle of Evermore
Friends
Lemon Song
Gallows Pole
The Rover
In My Time of Dying

And obviously everything else.

  • Gotta love "The Rain Song"... and everything else.

A day with out Zep is like a day without Pearl Jam. Just pointless...

    2008-4/15(EV solo)

  • How Many More Times is a mind blower. So much emotion. Love Zep but burned myself out on it by listening to it almost not stop from age 12 - 24. My first Zep Album was The Song Remains the Same, vinyl of course. Still own it at 42.

Always have some love for "Ten Years Gone" or "Night Flight" or "Down by the Seaside" or "Battle of Evermore" or "Fool in the Rain" or "When the Levee Breaks" or "Hey, Hey What Can I Do" or "Carouselambra."

  • I've had their first four albums for about the same length of time and I find myself going back to II and III more than their first and ZoSo.

I went through a looooong III period. Tangerine, what a song.

Love The Lemon Song, too. Citrus is kind of theme with me. ;)

Now here is the tragic part: We moved in 1997 and my husband mistook a large bag full of albums & cassettes for trash. III was in it, along with many, many other classic albums (fortunately, not all of them. Stooges survived.)

    Feck.

Right now Led Zeppelin I is what I listen to most. But I personally tend like their earlier stuff a little better. With the exceptions of Physical Graffiti and Houses of the Holy; those two are amazing.

    I'm thinking the same thing.

And jose, you are a lucky son of a bitch. :)
  • I listened to Houses of the Holy so much that I virtually cannot hear it anymore. That isn't to say I don't like it, but my brain processed those sounds so much that they melded into my subconcious and turned into background noise.

    So sad.

I too went through a phase for the last year of not being able to listen to Zep cause I was burnt out. But recently I put them back, and damn, they really are the fucking best.

Ah, Zeppelin, the best of the best !!!
I picked up Romlling Stone magazine, and there was a chat with Planty in a diner just near the famous crossroads down teh road from Nashville where RJ supposedly traded his soul. He said he can go in to a shop and use his credit card these days, and no-one even notices him. Not if I was serving, sunshine !!!!!
I tink that is good for him , but also kinda tragic, that so many young kids don't know who teh fuck ROBERT PLANT is !!
I started a mate who is at college on ZEp, and now teh whole floor of his dorm is ZEp crazy, so there is some hope for teh children.
    Music is not a competetion.
  • I've always been drawn to Fool in the rain. That song is AMAZING!! Also always go back to Heartbreaker too. When i first got a record player i went through some of my mom's old records and among the stacks of bands and singers i'd never heard of was the who's Tommy and Zep's LZ II. First song i played on my record player was Heartbreaker so i guess that is always one of their more definitive songs for me. Other songs that get constant play are:

    D'yer Mak'er
    Bron-Y-Aur
    Gallows pole
    When the levee breaks
    out on the tiles
Edit: i think there's way too many to put as favorites
"Everyone is a patriot in some form or another.... i prefer the intelligent ones."

    "She fell funny"

"Klaus Daimler, 40, engineer, calm, collected, German"

I agree. My mon is a highschool teacher and she tells me that the kids listen to and love Zeppelin, Hendrix, and the Doors. It is like this music is being discovered all over again. I get the impression they want something good and REAL. They are tired of all this disposable MTV shit.

My favorite Zeppelin album is Houses of the Holy. I started out not liking it, but despite my best intentions I grew to fall in love with it.

Great list, I'm not even gonna post one, cos I just agree with everyone's.
Does bloated overblown pompous stadium rock really mean mature, sophisticated, extrravagant, evolved, technically proficent, imaginative, creative, visionary and just plain wonderful ??
Does anybody else have the tab box set of teh first five albums that came out a couple of years ago ??
    Music is not a competetion.
  • Loving Ramble On, Thank you and When the levee breaks at the minute. Awesome band!!
  • ......................IN THE EVENINGGGGGGG

they are the ultimate band in my opinion...john paul jones is a god

Amazing band. I'm not even going to try and list the best as there are too many. Still get goose bumps when The Rover starts up. Saw them in 74 or 75 and my ears whistled for 3 days.

Nobody has come close to being as good!
  • Ten Years Gone, still one of my favorite rock songs ever. Led Zeppelin is a permanent member of my top five bands (as is Pearl Jam).

That's a tough question. Either I or II. Or III. Then there's IV. Ah hell do I have to pick one? ;)

Well, I hate to say it, but I graduated from high school last summer and I can say with certainty that 90% of the kids who listen to that kind of classic rock just do it because it's becoming a mini-fad and they like to wear the t-shirts that say Led Zeppelin on them. Most of them probably couldn't name more than 5 Zep songs. :(

Anyway, I really like Zep and own most of their albums... but being a youngster myself, they're definitely not untouchable in my eyes. I can't deny their musical talent and historic influence, but most of their music isn't my cup of tea unless I'm in the right mood.
