Reading this thread Physical Graffiti is well recommended and LedZep 4 is the often talked about classic.

I would go for Led Zeppelin I, II, or III before going for IV myself.... Not that IV isn't brilliant. But the earlier ones just have something a little more... I dunno.... organic?
My personal fave I guess might be III, but I don't think I actually feel that when I'm listening to any of the others... Basically, the album I'm listening to at the time is my favorite!

But seriously, as a huge fan, my honest recommendation for someone getting their first 3 LZ albums would be I, III, and Physical Graffiti. I guess. You really can't go wrong no matter what albums you choose IMHO, so maybe just start with the 3 best deals you find! \m/

Thanks everyone for their feedback. Really appreciate it. When a lot of your friends aren't heavily into music it's good to jump on the board and communicate about albums bands etc...
I'm looking forward to expanding my music library.

Starting at LZ I and going through their whole catalogue is one of the greatest listener experiences you can ever have. 8 albums in 10 years (not including Coda) and you can hear them grow and change on every album, quite remarkable really.

Yeah, chances are you've heard all, or most, of IV on the radio so that's why i recommended what i did, and that was what PJ_SOUL suggested: I, III and Physical Graffiti. I knew ther was another reason, besides PJ, that i like you as you LIKE the exact same 3 LZ albums as me>LOL

^^Yep...I'd go with the first 6 at the very least, but they're all essential.

Presence seems to have garnered a lot more attention the past few years. Still don't think it quite measures up to the previous albums, but holy geez is Achilles Last Stand the most epic way to start off an album.

In Through the Out Door is still kinda unsung. Has all the pieces that make the complete Zep experience, IMO.

This discussin bring the batting average discussion to the fore. There just aren't many songs in their catalog that you can consider average or worse.

Even their throwaways on Coda are pretty cool and offer an interesting twist on the Zep formula and help tell the Zep story.

No worries, picked it up a few hours ago, given it a listen, damn I love this album. Besides Pearl Jam, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd are the only bands I do my best to pick up new releases the day they come out.
Thus far I've been impressed with the reissues (I've gotten the cd versions with the bonus disc), my only complaint being the booklets that accompany the discs. Really, they couldn't have found someone to write an essay about the making of each album and its impact?

Well I hate to publicly admit it, but I'm kinda of one of "those guys" when it comes to torrents. You know the type of guys I'm talking about. As far as Zeppelin goes, I have all the original vinyls (found them on eBay for a bargain years ago) as well as all the CDs and live albums and DVDs. So I'm not losing sleep over my thievery of these remasters, but it's thievery nonetheless. But hey, Page would be a hypocrite to get up in arms over stealing music right?

As for this Physical Graffiti remaster. The album sounds great (as the first five have) and the companion disc is good too. Probably my favorite so far. I (like many) have had this alternate version of "In The Light" for years...but it's great to hear it properly mixed and mastered because it's awesome with it's somewhat "eerie" keys. Boogie With Stu, Houses, and Sick Again are interesting too. But frankly, I can't tell much difference in the "Rough Orchestra Mix" of Kashmir vs. the master album version.

Agreed on the Kashmir, though I'm wondering if the differences will come through better when I give it a listen on headphones (just turned up the speakers on the first play, lol), it did sound like the remix was subtly different, mainly in the horns, I think.

I'd never heard the alternate In The Light, and it was a very pleasant surprise. Really enjoyed the rough mix of In My Time Of Dying too (probably my favourite Zep song, lol). The alternate version of Boogie With Stu was another highlight for me too.

Woke up to the email that the reissues program apparently isn't finished, with the BBC Sessions being reissued on September 16, with "new" tracks.

Duh, lol, just realized this reissue was likely delayed somewhat, pending the outcome of the recent lawsuit regarding Stairway. Now they can go ahead with printing the booklets with Page/Plant getting the sole credit on that song, lol.
