  • Here's a thought I had about Jimmy Page the other day. I think he should be inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame under the non-performers section as Zeppelin's producer in addition to his inductions as a performer with the Zeppelin and the Yardbirds

nope, they're untouchable........unless we're talking about the Beatles

Eh, I don't know. They were definitely untouchable for their time, but I think their formula has been improved on since then. Of course, like I said before, they did CREATE that formula, and I give them all the credit in the world for that. But I just feel that bands like Pearl Jam and Soundgarden make better music... that is, music that I personally enjoy more.

Well, I hate to say it, but I graduated from high school last summer and I can say with certainty that 90% of the kids who listen to that kind of classic rock just do it because it's becoming a mini-fad and they like to wear the t-shirts that say Led Zeppelin on them. Most of them probably couldn't name more than 5 Zep songs. :(

Anyway, I really like Zep and own most of their albums... but being a youngster myself, they're definitely not untouchable in my eyes. I can't deny their musical talent and historic influence, but most of their music isn't my cup of tea unless I'm in the right mood.

Fair enough that it doesn't always suit you, but watch teh How the West Was Won DVD and then say they are not untouchable.
Every time I watch it I am just humiliated by how good PAge was. The acoustic set is just sublime !!
Did you ever see better acoustic playing than Bron-y-ar Stomp ??

    Not to interrupt the current conversation, but I'm curious;

What would have become of Zeppelin had John not died? Would they have eventually broke up? What would their music have sounded like say, in the 80's?

I respectfully disagree with you when you say Pearl Jam and Soundgarden make better music than Led Zeppelin. but I, like you, enjoy Pearl Jam more than Zeppelin. but not Soundgarden though.

Yea, the Beatles were fucking amazing too. Untouchable in a very different way. But if I had to pick, and only if I was forced, I'd still probably have to go with Zeppelin. Then the Beatles.

How Many More Times is a mind blower. So much emotion. Love Zep but burned myself out on it by listening to it almost not stop from age 12 - 24. My first Zep Album was The Song Remains the Same, vinyl of course. Still own it at 42.

But did you really burn yourself out on it, or were you just taking a break? I am going through a phrase where I don't listen to them as much. I hit hard like yourself from around 12-mid 20's. They are so great because you can listen to them any time and not be disappointed.

My brother made me a two tapes, one of Led Zeppelin II on one side and IV on the other. The other tape had Houses of the Holy and In Through the Out Door. Saved me from a life of shitty hair bands!!!

How Many More Times is great, right now Sick Again and Out On The Tiles are doing it for me.

    Led Zeppelin to tour again

    By THOMAS WHITAKER
    Showbiz Reporter

LEGENDARY rockers Led Zeppelin are set to re-group after 22 years for a money-spinning stadium tour of America.

The three surviving members — singer Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page and bassist John Paul Jones — plan to hit the road next summer.

The trio hope to pocket £6.4million for the shows.

Robert, 54, Jimmy, 58, and 56-year-old John Paul met two weeks ago at the offices of their management firm Trinifold.

They buried the hatchet over Page and Plant’s 1990s tour, which John Paul only learned about from a newspaper.

A band insider said last night: “If the right offer comes up they will do it.”

Trinifold added: “Jimmy is itching to do something, but there is nothing firm yet.”

Zeppelin split in 1980 after a booze binge killed drummer John Bonham.

His son Jason is set to play drums on the tour.

The band, famed for songs like Stairway to Heaven and Whole Lotta Love, are second only to the Beatles in worldwide album sales.

They still hold records for crowds at their 1970s concerts.

A music industry insider said: “They had so many hits that I am sure the reunion would be a major success.”

    So, what do you think???[/url]

The group last toured in 1980.
    Jimmy, 58,

    He just turned 63.

Look I'd love a tour but the only reference I've seen is this same article. I would think there would be more sources.

Would that be the studio version, or the fabulous 12.5 minute monster on the Song Remains The Same soundtrack, or some other version?

I love that slow building tension. I like PJ's Release for the same reason.

  • my favorite album is physical graffity. for me the best album of all time, every song is so different but they somehow work together better then any other collection of songs. and Led Zeppelin in concert is just mind blowing - no other band does like them till this day. if you want a proof just check the Achilles Last Stand on the DVD, best thing ive ever seen.

    That would be awesome.

Just recently started watching the self-titled DVD and some of the footage is amazing (some of the editing sucks, and also a little cheesy) but its such good quality. I really believe that they were just the fucking best. If there was one band that I could see at their prime, they would be it. Such a good fucking live show.

My favorite part of the DVD right now is when Jimmy Page is playing White Summer by himself. Its fucking incredible. How Many More Times is also sweet, and Nobody's Fault but mine.

The only song that is really missing from this DVD in my opinion is No Quarter. Would love to see a long JPJ solo.

I have a copy of the entirety of one of the Knebworth 1979 shows, and the version of No Quarter on that is killer, goes on for about 14 mins i think. Pity that wasnt on the DVD. And its a pity that Thank You and Heartbreaker arent on the DVD too - but hell, its hard to argue with perfection, which that DVD definitely is. If there's anything better than the performance of Achilles Last Stand from Knebworth, I havent seen it. Absolutely amazing. They were the best, and always will be the best

Is there any way that you could make me a copy of this? If so, I'd be happy to trade something in return.

No quarter was omitted because TSRTS Version is flawless. No need to try and top perfection...

and the "editing sucks" is actually great editing. Most of the places with cheesy effects are used due to the fact that actual pieces of the video were missing, so they'd have to draw parts out a bit... and other times its actually bootleg videos that Jimmy obtained in order to complete parts where the "official" copy had dry rotted.
