Foo Fighters

I saw them the other night at MSG as well. I did come away impressed with how good a band they are live. I did like the acoustic set in the middle and there was tremedous energy. Taylor Hawkins is a real good drummer as well, IMO.
But they are no Pearl Jam. I enjoyed myself very much at the show, but I left satisifed, not needing more. After a Pearl Jam show, I wake up the next day needing another one and another one. And if I did decide to see the Foo's in Philly tonight, ya know what I would get ?? Probably the same exact setlist I saw at MSG on Tuesday. The closest thats ever happened at a PJ show for me was Severerd Hand, Corduroy , WWS to open East Rutherford 1 and 2 in 2006. There is no feeling like expecting the unexpected.

OMG foo's better than... No!
Foo's are canned food. Every tin looks the same despite altering the labelling slightly over the years.C'est une belle histoire0 -

I hope you're being sarcastic. His drumming is so-so? Go listen to Foo S/T. Or QOTSA, or anything he drums on because he BRINGS THE FUCKING NOISE! He's by far one of the best drummers of his generation. You're killin me smalls...When Jesus said "Love your enemies" he probably didn't mean kill them...

That being said, when he plays with other bands or projects it's always great! QOTSA, Probot, Killing Joke. Just something about the Foos annoys me so much.
Trust me...I'm in the minority in my group of friends. Most people I know love them more than ever.
Im with you on that.....

the foos haven't done a great album since the colour & the shape, the last cd was okay, but nothing special, everything in between was average, with the occasionaly good song.
videos like learn to fly make me cringe, Low was a terrible, terrible song, but there are high points too.
you cannot compare PJ & Foos, there's no contest.
as for live, i saw the foos 11 times, then stopped about 3 or 4 years ago. I have seen PJ 7 times and can't wait to add more shows to my list.
I hate that the foo's aren't as good as they used to be, but that's the road they have chosen to travel & that's also the state of music these days... bland, bland, bland29/10/96 (Wembley) 29/05/00 (Wembley)

That is because he can't sing very well. Never understood the appeal with the Foos. Vocal and guitar melodies are certainly not Grohl's thing. More of a smash and grab sort of bloke...Idaho's Premier Outdoor Writer

My like of the Foo Fighters has definitley fallen quite a bit. There last great album in my opinion was One By One. In Your Honor was a big let down and the new one really didn't do much for me either. On top of that, Dave Grohl REALLY annoys me live...he adds way too many screams and yells and come ons...can't even enjoy the song. Just sing the damn song Dave! lol. They do sound good live and I love their first 4 albums...just my two cents. The Official Matt Cameron appreciation signature!0

Am I alone here?
you're not completely alone. i hear what you're saying. i don't have a problem with them doing the grammy's, doing press and making videos. i think dave grohl has a great personality and the band likes to have fun. i also think they're a great live band.
IMO, they're latest release was awesome and incredibly diverse. thant being said, "long road to ruin" was one of the worst songs on the album and pretty typical.
i don't think you can really compare them to pearl jam. i see eddie and the rest of pj as activists with a strong social concience. the foos, not so much. the live shows are completely different as well with my tip of the hat going to pj.0 -
I love the Foo Fighters. They are one of my favorite bands.. and have been for a long time. I know their setlists are static, but the shows, nonetheless, are alwasy a good time.
I've already seen them in Reno and am going to see them twice, here in L.A. a lot of it is because of my Foo friends... the same thing that makes going to Pearl Jam shows so fun... being with those friends.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

I was at the foo fighters show at msg 2/19, they are an amazing live band it was a great show, but still my money is going to pearl jam for a live show, foo fighters are great but im sorry pearl jam is on another level in every aspect.0

1. The are a mainstream band now extremly popular with teeny boppers which takes a lot of cred away from them. They would seem a better band than pj to that crowd.
2. They have no credibility. They whore themselves to grammy's, MTV, the media.
3. They were a better band 10 years ago by far. They changed for the worse.
4. grohl should have chosen to drum for pj when he had the chance. Now he is just in a middle of the road nothing pop rock/modern rock band with a bit of kick.
5. have u seen pj live? they put on a much better show than the foo fighters.I'm just flying around the other side of the world to say I love you

If you like canned shows...super hooky standard rock songs...and overexposure...then yes...you're alone.
I like the Foos...I enjoy their shows...but PJ is magic."Had my eyes peeled both wide open, and I got a glimpse...of my innocense, got back my inner sence, baby got it...still got it"0 -
you know, seeing the foo fighters at bridge school in 2006 or so made me a fan of the band...they were pretty great.
...then i saw them a few weeks ago in Oakland and it was pretty fucking lousy. dave just couldn't stop talking. and on top of that, everything he was saying sounded completely pre-rehearsed and written before hand. i'd be willing to bet you could go to multiple shows nearby and hear him say and do the same thing every time. on top of that, the band did not sound tight at all.
but, perhaps the most annoying thing about the show was the constant posing. fucking christ. every bridge was him standing on a platform so it could look like he was "rocking out" and every chorus began with him yelling "come on!1!!!1"

I disagree. Though the Foo Fighters do have a nice variety of songs, Pearl Jam's songs speak deeper to me. They are also more staged it seems like compared to Pearl jam. There's more personality with Eddie than there is with dave. Plus, Pearl Jam fans are about ten times cooler.06/24/06: Cincy
