  • I LOVE the Foos! I listened to them when they first came out then stopped until about a year ago...I was missing out all that time! That is how it is sometimes though, I am just happy that I gave them a try again....And I think their new album is AMAZING!!!

I agree with what someone posted earlier in the thread...at least they tour more than PJ, especially here in the UK....twice in two years they've been to Manchester Evening News Arena....last time PJ came here it was 2000!! That's the only thing that pisses me off about PJ. But I might have to agree with the thread starter too. I'm listening to the Foo Fighters way more lately than Pearl Jam. Don't care if I'm in the minority there....I like what I like at this moment in time. Just feels PJ have dropped off the radar lately and the Foos are some what more available to me

Just had to chime in as I saw the FF last night (at the mighty Spectrum) for the first time since I started listening to them 13 yrs ago.
They rocked my ass off! Seriously.
So far, after 9 PJ shows and many other bands in between, this is the only band that's come close to putting on a show that damn good. I know the static setlist deal, and I wouldn't dream of following them around like I would PJ, but as an "Arena Rock Band" (as Dave kept calling them), they are fucking great!
And I think nukeboot nailed it with this:

IMO, the Foo Fighters are one of the few bands besides PJ that are keeping rock alive. And I don't criticize them for embracing success.

When did they become a better band then Pearl Jam. Hate to say it but based on their last album and the Skin and bones album/tour before that they may just have surpassed PJ. The fact that they don't sweat playing the Grammy's, doing press, and making videos is also refreshing.

    Am I alone here?

They came up with the Pearl Jam formula. Have a keyboardist plus an extra percussion dude that does the same routine with his Triangle Solo every f'ing night and bringing back Pat Smear to play some acoustic songs and stuff off the new album.

Im sorry but the last FF album wasnt great! Advacado was soooo much better. Even live pearl jam are a superior act. OK, PJ have become a bit anal in their old age but their work speaks for itself

no pj didn't have that much cred before say 1995 (when they toured with neil young) that's true. But after that they built a career based on their fans, gutsy music that isn't going to be forgotten like the foo's will be. They released albums that were influenced by springsteen, young and the who.. When I heard the pretender I thought it was simple plan or something. I couldn't see the difference. The Foo Fighters wont ever be a pearl jam let alone a wilco, built to spil, mmj or radiohead. They can win all the grammys they like but they won't ever matter in music history like R.E.M. or springsteen.

Dude... Ten, Vs., Vitalogy. No cred? Are you sure you know who Pearl Jam is?

  • Go right ahead and watch the stupid grammys and buy right guard and order papa johns you consuming fool. Foo Fighters...Dave Grohl help with the break up of a much better band than Foo will ever be...Sunny Day Real Estate. Foo Fighters are ok don't get me wrong..but they'll never be more than ok. PJ has better things to do with their celebrity than playing the fucking pointless
Grammys where other stupid celebrities go to kiss each others ass.....with the mediocre at best Foo Fighters providing the sound track.

So the MTV movie awards back in the day had a point?

I completely agree with people who are saying Pearl Jam is much better live that the Foos and that the last few albums haven't been quite as good as the old ones (I guess you guys all choose to pretend Binaural, Riot Act and ST never happened) but bashing them brutally for playing the Grammys and being cocky and being worse than anything out there is ridiculous. You are making them sound worse than Nickelback. You mean to tell me if the Grammies came to you and said we want you to play with an orchestra and one of your heroes from Led Zeppelin are going to lead the orchestra, you wouldn't jump at the chance? Give me a fucking break.

The level of pretension around here is unbearable sometimes.
  • I went to the Foos show in Worcester Mon night. I will say that I agree they are not as good as PJ... but as far as live shows go, it's a helluva closer than I thought. I thought it was a fantastic show - the only show I've seen in the last 10 years that has even come close to a PJ show. And I dare say that it was better than PJ's Hartford 06 show. PJ is still by far #1 for me, but the Foos are solidly in 2nd now.

cobain would kill grohl for the shitty music he has spewed out
  • When the Foo Fighters opened for RHCP at summerfest a few years ago they put on a much more memorable show then the Chili Peppers did.

  • saw FF at MSG last tuesday. boring as all fuck. greatest hits set list night after night. dave doesnt eben sing a solitary note of any song anymore, all he does is scream.

one of the worst concerts ive ever been too.
  • I like the Foos even though I can find their music repetetive. For whatever reason they appear to have captured the younger audience better than PJ. They would appear to be more popular with the general public right now but without the hard core following PJ has. During the Foos acoustic tour while back I had an extra ticket and couldn't even dump it for $10. Can you imagine that for PJ? An hour of Ed farting would sell for more than that.

i agree with the repetetive comment....

i was at the FF Spectrum show, and I have to say I was pleasantly suprised. Sure it was a show of all the hits, but i dont follow the Foos hardcore, so I was glad I got to see/hear songs that i liked. crowd energy was amazing....extremely loud. spectrum was rocking....great stage setup from them. Long runway extending out into the crowd. and they played an acoustic set on a seperate stage at the far end of the arena for all the people in the back and far away. and even though dave comes off as a dick...his stage banter in between songs is hilarious.

as for the younger audience...at the spectrum i saw alot of middle aged guys. far more than "younger" people.

all in all i had a great time at the performance.
