  • Hey ACL vets ... where's the best place to catch the park 'n' ride?

my first year at acl, i did the whole shuttle thing. sunday night after ben harper the line for the shuttles was fucking massive. roomie and ended up walking back to the parking garage, which was like 16th and trinity or something.

let me go find a link...
    I miss you hippiemom.

Well, I guess my next question qould be ... how do you recommend getting around? I'm not opposed to just parking somewhere (a hotel, maybe) and grabbing a cab, if that will be easier. I just don't know about being able to find one after the show.

  • i park here. its an enclosed garage. always been around 7 or 8 bucks, even on acl weekend. and about a 30 min walk (i walk slow) to zilker park. its also where the pedicaps lineup, so if a 20-30 min walk is too much, you can hitch a ride for a small donation. ive never ever had trouble finding a spot here. and sometimes i dont mosey on out of the house till 1pm or 2pm. been parking here for years. and a stroll down barton springs road is part of the experience at acl.

Yeah, I know where that is. Just across Congress from my old college apartment. Used to be an auditorium like thing, until they tore it down and refurbished, right?

i dunno if it was torn down or refurbished. but they redid the whole thing. parking garage is quite sizable. i actually drive in, and start going in the down/exit direction, and find a spot close to the exit. cause you never know.

anyways, that is an option. but there is always the shuttles. getting there they are quite good. getting back is a gamble.

It's gone. It is now the Long Center for the Performing Arts. Quite nice and if this is the parking garage you speak of it could be the best bet.
  • long center is right next to it.

Anyone had experience with catching a cab after? There's supposed to be a drop-off and pick-up spot for the cabbies but I'm not sure how long of a wait it would be to get one. Yeah, it'll be expensive but I'm going by myself and live in NW hills. I thought a cab might be less time than the shuttle....?? I gotta work on Monday :x

yeah---the shuttle line will be long. you can walk out and catch a cab..just be prepared to either spend a decent amount of $ or share a cab. there are also bike taxis that are waiting to pick up fares right near the gate. this year is the first year that we've really planned this part of it out by asking my wife's cousin to pick us up in exchange for some gas/grocery money. we're very thankful that he said yes. 8-)

Thanks for the info. Yeah, sharing a cab would be great if I could link up with someone who lives central or northwest. The last time I cabbed it from the airport to home it cost me almost $40 and that was a year ago. Ain't no way I want to be driving though.....!!

My friends and I parked here last year each day (after getting parking at the Elks Club the year before, about the same distance) and this was great. Hardly anyone seemed to even know about this. Very easy access. As we were walking out Sunday night I said something to one of my friends about "when we get to the truck" and this girl who was walking beside me said "You guys found parking? YOU SUCK!" Everybody just broke up. She said she and her friends were waiting around a LONG time every night for a cab. On the other hand, if you plan on drinking it's nice to let somebody else do the driving. ;)

If I did drive and park, I imagine I'd be sober by the time I got out of the parking lot ;) I'm just not sure about walking by myself back to my car..... plus, I get lost real easy when I've been drinking. I'm directionally challenged even when sober!

you wont be walking alone. the garage is huge, and will fill up by days end. so there will be folks walking back with you.

lost? its a straight shot down barton springs road.

BUT i don't recommend the drinking and driving.
    I miss you hippiemom.
