If I did drive and park, I imagine I'd be sober by the time I got out of the parking lot ;) I'm just not sure about walking by myself back to my car..... plus, I get lost real easy when I've been drinking. I'm directionally challenged even when sober!

you wont be walking alone. the garage is huge, and will fill up by days end. so there will be folks walking back with you.

lost? its a straight shot down barton springs road.

BUT i don't recommend the drinking and driving.

Is that ever the truth. You will be walking out of the gates in a crowd of several hundred people that may gradually thin down to a couple hundred by the time you get to the garage. Police will have the side streets closed down each night after the fest ends. You will be fine.

By now, I would not be afraid to do it and I am a total wuss about my personal safety.

I think I'll check out the location this weekend. I don't really drink that much - especially when I'm by myself. I learned my lesson last time I went to Mid-town Music Festival in Atlanta - (2005 maybe?) I came out of the wrong exit from the park because cops were forcing people to go to specific exits. I got lost walking and ended up on "ho's row" with one of the pimps grabbing my arm and escorting me to the end of the block. Luckily a group of kids wandered by and helped me find my way back to where my car was parked. Now I know Austin ain't no Atlanta.... but it was one of those life-changing moments if you know what I mean.....

I would understand that completely and like I said, I don't take chances with my safety and don't make any apologies for it. But by now, after attending 2 years and seeing how well everything is managed at night after the fest is over and how friendly people tend to be, I would feel OK doing it by myself. I would probably scope out a group of people to walk with and stay with them, but it wouldn't be too hard. For most of the route you're going to be be part of a throng.

  • there is absolutely nothing to worry about concerning that walk back to the garage at night.

Limit per person is 4. I'll be there. Not sure how early on Friday I'd need to line up. Did anyone do the live simulcast for DMB? How was it?
  • I'm on the fence about this. I don't want to miss a bunch of the festival waiting in line for tickets and waiting to get into the simulcast. But I bet it would be really cool, even if you aren't actually in the same place as the band.

I went to an ACL taping last year, and the band played for an hour and a half, of which only a half hour of material actually ended up on the final show. So I'm guessing Pearl Jam might play a regular-ish two hour set for the taping? And then you'd also get to see all the backstagey stuff in between songs that won't make it into the final product.

Hmm. I might go for it.

Either way I'm so excited that this is coming up so soon! :D
