Thanks for your response. 90 minute IPA is my favorite beer of all time so I bought a case and am going to spread out the consumption of it over maybe a year or maybe like 3/4 of a year to see how much it changes.
I actually enjoy some IPAs once they've become sweeter/maltier. I like the idea of spreading them out to see if you notice the changes.

Yea I figured that since 90 Minute is my favoriter beer, I might as well just try to see how the beer changes, even if I have some bottles for too long and they are no longer as good

    So I have 24 in a case

Maybe I will wait until the bottles are 2 months old (which is the longest point that I have had a bottle of this stuff in my house)
Then have 1 bottle every other week until the case is gone
The beers at the end will be aged one year

    Thoughts?

DRINK THEM UP! If you like IPA's its for the reason they are a tad bitter and hoppy, right? Guess what happens folks when you age your IPA's? They get mellow...doesn't mean they won't be good, they are different.
I did this with a 4 pk in Nov 2008 - and I drank one (properly stored) each year on my birthday. November 2011 was almost undrinkable and also unrecognizable...Greg Koch, from Stone Brew, had an amazing spiel about this subject a few months back... He said for the highest alcohol content DIPA's and such, up to 7 wks (again, properly stored) at the MOST - and to expect it to taste different (not bad, just different).
I have also found any with citrus (Racer 5, etc...) turn to cat piss flavor. I have only had 1 old IPA (over 1 year) - it was a Lagunitas Sucks and I still can't believe it was a year old (twas very drinkable and tasty, believe it or not).
I am in the camp that IPA's & DIPA's need to be consumed immediately. Have fun storing - and for those of you that have, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Everybody's taste buds are different. IPA & DIPA are my faves - I will not make the mistake of letting them sit more than 2 mos ever again...

For anyone in TX, especially Houston (Shep & I) craft drinkers, the new Southern Star ProAM DIPA is killer. Freshest, piniest, hopjuice bomb i've had in TX since moving out here from San Diego. Seriously rivals some so cal dipa stuff.

the front end actually has me thinking of pliny, really good shit.

p.s. shep-pliny's may be here next week.

I picked up a 4-pack of the ProAM last Friday and I have to confirm it is awesome.

Only had 1 can so far, but more will definitely be consumed this weekend.
Houston, Texas... Believe it or not, there are 7 million people here... must be a couple of fans who'd love to see you play.

I know its weird to say, but I feel the need to see how this beer ages, even though I do drink IPAs because I love their bitterness and the aroma. Maybe I will make my experiment last a shorter amount of time based on what you said and my gut feeling. Maybe I will in one month, and do one a week. Hmm, decision decisions .

Just finished my 2nd bottle of the 10th Anny Ruination... I randomly found it on a shelf at a binny's in chicago when I was there 2 weeks ago... The best before date was 8/23, and I drank it today on 8/24...

And i have to formally state that it is a tragedy that it was a 1 off batch... that beer was fucking amazing. I had never had the regular ruination before, but after comparing the two, the regular recipe doesn't even compare.... I hope they don't retire the 10th anny recipe permanently....

I agree with most of what was posted. I had a 6 month old Hopslam recently and it was nothing like what Hopslam should be. Good? Yes. Nectar of the gods? Nowhere close.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

 Sadly, I agree with the tragedy part of your statement, shep...I am a HUGE IPA fan, Stone IPA is my everyday, have some with dinner, go-to beer. The Ruination is just ok, a random fresh 22 oz when I want a slight change of direction, but honestly, it is a tad over-rated. However, the 10th Anny was SO downright fantastic and I would drink that all the time if it was available. I had it in a few 22's and ran over to Stone to get my growler filled. I also sat in their garden area and drank a few fresh pints... I was also there when I was told by Stone staff that it is no more..."whats made is made and what was shipped is gone, hope you enjoyed it"
They blew through 7 kegs of the stuff on a Saturday during a special growler fill day (like yesterday's ''Double Bastard")
Try the "Enjoy By" IPA if you can get it. Holy crap - dare I say its 10x better than the Ruination and yes, crazy as it sounds, better than the 10th Anny Ruination. (And for what its worth, WAY better that the 16th Anny)

Taking a short break from drinking. No real reason other than to get healthy again. I was drinking pretty much daily, but not in excess - one or two beers/drinks a night. I haven't had a beer since 9/2. I'll probably be ready for a nice refreshing IPA this weekend.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

sam adams october fest was on special at b-dubs last night. im not sure if it's considered a craft beer but it was pretty damn tasty.
  • Grabbed these from Letspour the other day. They will be awaiting me when I get home in December :)

    1 Cigar City Homefront IPA
2 Dogfish Head Brewing Punkin Ale
    1 Emelisse Black IPA
1 Howe Sound Brewing Total Eclipse of the Hop IPA
    1 Upright Brewing Five
  • started by very first home brew last night. Brewing a Belgian Tripel with small hints of autumn spices (pumpkin, cinnamon, cloves, vanilla). Should take about 6 days to completely ferment, then we have to wait about 2 more weeks after bottling. Hopefully we get a nice cool, breezy weekend to enjoy. We've made a pact that we have to drink every last drop no matter how terrible it may be. (fingers crossed)

Went by World of Beer after work yesterday and had Bear Republic Hop Rod Rye and Oskar Blues G'Knight on draft. I'm really glad Bear Republic finally arrived down here. I also went by Total Wine yesterday and picked up the 750ml bottles of the following Cigar City beers: Marshal Zhukhov's Imperial Stout, Batch 69 Double Cream Ale, Guava Grove Saison and Big Sound Scotch Ale.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.
