It's been awhile since I've seen an Oakridge Boys reference. Enjoy the Pliny.

To anyone who likes pumpkin beer and has access to Cigar City Brewing, try Good Gourd. Amazing little imperial pumpkin ale that actually emphasizes the pumpkin flavor instead of all the cinnamon, clove, etc. spices.

It's excellent. Easily my favorite pumpkin beer.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

Yummy - they have an FLOAT they make with this that is so delicious: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Le_7ah7jgsI

Also, if you enjoy mexican food, pick up the porter made w/ Chipotle peppers. Much tamer than the Vertical Epic 11.11.11 (which is made w/ Anaheim Peppers and is fabulous) - but equally delicious.

    PROST!!!

  • Since all the local Oktoberfest's were out in August, 1/6 barrels are no longer available. I had to go with a barrel of Sam Adam's Oktoberfest. It's tasty, but I still prefer to go on the micro side. Also picking up a barrel of the mighty tasty Capital Autumnal Fire. Saturday will be fun, Sunday might be a bitch.

Just picked up a 6'r of Deschutes Inversion IPA, Russian River Redemption, Russian River Damnation and a 22 of Full Sail Sanctuary.
Anyone had the Damnation or Redemption? The store owner was giddy telling me about them (just got a shipment today and was unpacking them)...

I have two Damnations in my beer cellar <cough>hall closet<cough> that I've yet to try. I'm pretty sure my wife got one while we were in Philly a few months ago, but I was way too far into my DIPAs for the night to recall the experience accurately. :weneedabeeremoticon:

    Ok -
    The Damnation = fantasticly fantastic
The Redemption = Banana-y. Yes, tasted like bananas...I don't dig bananas

The Inversion is a dark IPA, very enjoyable and I purchased another 6'r...

Also grabbed a Manzanitas Chaotic DIPA - awesome brew!!!

Went to Slaters 50/50 (burger joint) on Sat eve, low and behold 111 craft beers on tap

Yumminess galore. Burgers were great but my god did I have some tasties...Ballast Point Tongue Buckler, Stone AB, Delirium Tremens & Chimay Tripel White for dessert... What an amazing beer selection, I was in awe...

So... After 3 weeks out of the country I swung by the beer store last night after work, and got the greatest surprise ever...

When I was talking to the beer guy, he pulled out some DFH 120!!!!! YEAH!!!!!

Apparently texas re-approved the label and DFH brewed a batch just to send here!!! I was only allowed 3 bottles (at $10/bottle), but man!! so estatic! put 2 in the aging fridge gonna try one this weekend for the first time ever!

I think I'm going to try a couple of more stores tonight to see if I can find another 2 or 3 bottles for my aging fridge.... so excited to finally get some of this beauty.

While I was there I also picked up a bottle of Saison du Buff, the collaboration between DFH, Victory, and Stone, and the beer guy had one bottle left of the 16th anniversary Stone IPA that he gave to me as well... all in all it was a great trip to the beer store last night!!!

    :D:D:D

Nice score. I went to my local store a few weeks back and they had 2 120's on the shelf. I'm supposed to be on a list to call when they get it in. Even then they only give you one bottle. I never got a call but i bought both bottles. Thanks guys

I STILL haven't found any DFH 120. A friend of mine found some for me but I never picked it up from her house (totally my fault, I know), and now she lives in New Mexico. One day. One day I will get my hands on that tasty treat!

It didn't bother me too much, as this morning I phoned around the local bottle shops and found another Houston location that had more in stock and bought another 3 at lunch! Thinking about it now $60 for 6 beer is a retarded price and I may have gotten a little carried away in my excitement, but yeeeeaaaahhhhh!

I absolutely cannot wait to try it on Friday... gonna hold off until then I from what I hear 1 bottle is probably enough to get me hammered

It'll be worth it. Paying $60 for 6 DFH 120's is a helluva lot more worth it than paying $60 for 2 or 3 DFH PJ20 brews.

Have to take your word for it. Texas never approved the sale of the PJ20 beer in the state, so I never got to try it... but having read all the descriptions and reviews, I can't say that I really have a desire too..

So I realized today that with the storage of 5 bottles of 120, I have officially exceeded the capacity of my beer aging fridge (yes, the fridge is necessary, as they don't build cellars in houses here (due to bugs), and running the AC at 72 all day for 8 months of the year that it is 90 degrees + will cost you way too much money)... Actually going to lease a wine storage locker as of tomorrow for $30 a month to support my habit.... on the plus side of things it has about 3 x the capacity that I actually need....

Yeah I scoured the DC area to scoop up a bunch of PJ20 but it was just average at best. I just like it for the label. I have a couple left but probably won't drink them.

Holy crap, me neither. And I love barleywine. Thanks for the heads up!
  • I have an idea of fermenting everything seperately, and adding it together according to people's specifications. Would wheat, barley groats become grain alcohol and unfavorable tasting without the yeast? I also want to ferment poison hemlock seeds, lotus seeds and sensitive plant seeds.

Had a Stone smoked porter with vanillia beans last night... interesting brew... don't think i'd have another though.

Scored a bunch of Avery's "the beast" and "Samuels" the weekend.... stashed it in the cellar for down the road... anybody ever aged a few of these before and know about when they're ready?

Picked up my first 2 bottles of Bitches Brew tonight... gonna try one the weekend and attempt to age the other - depending on if I like it or not I may go back the weekend and try and grab a third bottle (assuming they still have it of course...)
