That backhand for the hat trick was a thing of beauty. Him and Crosby are on fire and I don't realistically see them being stopped.

Don't worry. The Wings will stop them in the finals. Go Wings!
  • LET"S GO PENS

Game 2 was a very exciting game to watch for any sports fan not just hockey fans. The final score does not reflect how close the first 50 minutes actually were. Malkin just took the game over. The desire to win and the skill of the penguins I do not think can be matched by any of the remaining teams. If the pens can finish off the canes i think the rematch final with the wings will be an amazing series. I think the pens can beat the wings this year. if the pens make it to the finals Sid will not let this team lose again.

  • Exactly... I cannot wait to see Hossa's expression if that plays out. Taking a one year deal to try to chase a cup and then lose to the team that offered you a better deal... what a pussy. At least Bourque waited until he was about to retire before jumping the shark.

Or maybe Hossa just didn't like playing in Pittsburgh where they put an individual over the team...

If you want to accuse the NHL of promoting the best player in the league, that's fine. But the Penguins as a team and organization have always treated their stable of players equally. They made sure to get Malkin and Staal locked up for a while and Crosby took less than his market value for his deal so they would have more to spread around.

You are either an idiot or simply know nothing about hockey.

Whoa there- no need to get personal.
I didn't know that you were part of the organization, and knew how everyone was being treated. Geez- I'm sorry I don't know anything about hockey and/or am an idiot. Geez.

Maybe some day the league's best player will win a championship. But it ain't going to be this year.

Great win. They did exactly what they needed to do.
Losing the three goal lead was a little sketchy, but they came through in the clutch.
    Sunday should be interesting.

And by the way, Crosby isn't even the best player on his own team, let alone the NHL.

I'm more of a Malkin guy myself, but Crosby is playing like a man possessed every night, whereas Malkin turns it on and off at times. It will always be debatable as to who the best player is. This year Malkin was if you go by points and Ovechkin was if you like a one-trick pony. Crosby tries to make the team better and get everyone involved but has the ability to seal the deal himself and score if given the slightest opportunity. I would like to think that everyone knows that the league pushes Crosby simply because he speaks English and gives good interviews. It's hard to promote guys that can't complete a sentence.

And I should have said that you seemed to know nothing about Pittsburgh hockey based on your comments and not hockey in general. I just get so sick of everyone bashing Crosby for no viable reason and I apologize for the personal attack.

No worries, man- I'm just busting your chops.
But seriously- I posted this earlier- but I think it's worth thinking about.
What would possess a marquee player (Hossa) to turn down more money and a long term deal to stay with Pittsburgh, who was the other team in finals last year and which features arguably two of the top three players in the league?
He said that he thinks he has a better chance at winning a Cup in Detroit- I think that's BS.
Yeah Detroit has a chance to win it every year, but Pitt is nothing but upside. So why would he leave?
Other than the insightful "he's a pussy" and "he has no loyalty" arguments, wouldn't you agree that it is probably safe to say he had some problem with either/or the coaching, system, management, organization?

You Wings fans will be happy to know that against my better judgement I watched the entire Wings-Hawks game last night.

Thought that the Kronvall hit was going to add some excitement to the game. I was wrong. The first 2 periods were decent to watch in that there were a few good scoring chances. The third period was what I have come to expect when watching Wings hockey -- it was possibly the most boring period of hockey that I have watched since the lockout. OT was ok -- but OT is always entertaining whether the hockey is good or not.

Yes- everyone knows you think the Red Wings are boring. This is probably the 10th or 15th time you posted as such. Anyone who has been following this thread knows how you feel about them by now. But here's the thing, no matter how many times you are going to post the same thing over and over, you probably aren't going to change anyone's mind.

Oh come on now. I'm sure that it has been many more than 10 or 15 posts. Don Cherry even said that they are boring to watch. I almost stopped posting because I thought that I had exhausted my sentiments but that third period in game 3 was inexcusable and that Wings team needs to be called out. Imagine if every team in the league played like the Wings? The league would have to fold after one season.

You must be Canadian. Citing Don Cherry as any kind of credible source
And of course Grapes would say they are boring. They are all European. He hates European style hockey.

Lol -- Aside from the Grapes citation, there is a 93.7% probability that anyone posting in a message forum pertaining to hockey is Canadian. A guy that I went to high school with scored the OT winner on you guys in Game 3.

Cherry had lots of good things to say about Kronwall last night and he and McLean had a little back and forth about how players could maybe induce interference calls by purposely not touching the puck when it is passed to them and they know a hit is coming.

Also, just to be clear, the North American players on Detroit are every bit as boring as the Europeans.

That Canes-Pens game last night was another amazing game to watch. It was end to end with scoring chances at both ends of the rink for most of the game and some great physical play to along with that.

Stick a fork in my Canes. The Pens are a better team for sure, but this should have been a better series than it has been so far. I think we hit a wall. We don't appear to have the same focus and drive we had over the past 2 months and just aren't doing the little basic things. The Pens are too quick and skilled to get away with that. Credit Cam for the fact that we have even been in the game in the 3rd Period. He's had no help in the defensive zone. Last night could have been much worse. I'm just hoping we don't get swept.

  • I am pumped for this finals rematch. I am just not looking forward to having to wait so long for it to start. What a joke. I am not sure what the NHL is thinking. I know money is the prime motivation but I can not see how such a long break could be good for the game or make them money. Casual fans will forget all about the NHL before the finals will even start. Game 1 June 5 Game 2 June 6. WTF? The pens and wings could be sitting around doing nothing for 10 days. Then Back to back games after a long break. Makes no sense to me at all. That is not what playoff hockey is about. It should be every other day. The only rest you should get is if you end a series early and you have to wait to play the next team.

If things end on Wed. I think the NHL will approach NBC about changing things.
But the NHL will have to bow down to measley payment and shit afternoon scheduling,so who knows.

I think it could have been a couple of things... While the team was doing well, the players in general didn't have a huge liking to Michael Therrien... With his structure/approach, he was the right coach for a bunch of kids, but I think he wore out his welcome... Who knows what Hossa thought of him.

Also, even if Hossa stayed, with all of the other losses in the offseason, the team was a worse team at the start of this season than the one that went to the cup... And with the cap space that would have been used to sign Hossa, the team really couldn't get much better and wouldn't be where it is now with him.

I think that he made the right choice.

Yeah, if the league keeps the June 5th date, then it will lose any media attention that it gained, and get bashed by hockey fans, writers & bloggers for the entire 10 days off.

I don't know about you guys, but I am rooting that the Lakers and Cavs both lose this round. If the NBA gets the LaBron/Kobe finals matchup, then hockey will get even less coverage than it does now.

I think that Hossa signing with the Wings paled in comparison to the kick-in-the-nuts move of Ryan Malone going to the Tampa Bay Lighting. Hossa really just did a quick playoff campaign with the Penguins after being traded at the deadline from Atlanta. Malone however was born in PA and I believe is the son of a former Penguin. Plus, after taking that puck to the face in the finals and coming back, he would have never had to buy a drink in town again.

What boggles my mind is that Hossa evidently not only turned the Penguins long term offer down, but it was rumored that Vancouver offered him 9 years at $81M. I think Ken Holland played a Jedi mind trick on him to come to Detroit.
