And Evgeni "Joe Thornton" Malkin is disappearing the second straight year in the playoffs (minus of course the random tripping penalty or giveaway). My whole life

What's the hockey watching fan's consensus?
I think this is shaping to be one of the best/most interesting playoff years I have seen in a decade.
Five Original Six franchises making the playoffs, the Crosby/Ovechkin rivalry getting attention, an 8 seed (Ducks) knocking off a 1 seed (Sharks) in an instate rivalry.

it reminds me of hockey when it was most popular (early/mid 90s) when it ruled EPSN 2 and they were covering games all the time ... and let's not forget, NHL 2Night
I think they are missing a huge opportunity having this OV/Crosby matchup buried on VS."You're one of the few Red Sox fans I don't mind." - Newch91

NHL 2Night...such memories. It's hard just getting a Barry Melrose fix on just the few minutes he has on SportsCenter.
Anyone know when VS contract with the NHL expires? I'd have to imagine that when it ends ESPN might have to at least considering bringing hockey back."The dude abides. It's very exciting right now. The Pens/Caps match-up is awesome. And even though I want the Canucks to kick some major ass and go all the way, the Hawks are an exciting and enjoyable team to watch (they just better lose :? :x).
I can't complain too much when it comes to getting a game on the tube. Between CBC, TSN, TSN2, Sportsnet, (East, West and Pacific) and the NHL package on satellite there was always a game or two (or three!) on every night this seasonAlthough, sometimes I would get a little tired of it. If it wasn't one of my top three teams playing, I'd leave the hubby and go watch another program downstairs
However, it sure beats living in England last year when I was limited to one game a week, on at 1:00 am on a Wednesday night and usually an Eastern conference match-up :x I'm a Western chick

for anyone that has endured my anger with the NHL over the past two weeks about its coverage of the playoffs on TV, the cost of the playoff package, the lack of Bruins games on TV ... well, pretty funny listneing to the first 10 minutes of Bill Simmons podcast today essentially echo my feelings (May 4th) ...
it's a good listen, as, Simmons RARELY talks hockey.

Agreed! Soon as the first round matchups were announced I said it was going to be a great year. Great game last night and go CAPS!
Now it'll be perfect if the Wings and Bruins meet up!If you have a chance to make life better for others, and fail to do so, you are wasting your time on this earth.

I agree... the first round had some high points, but these second round series are really good matchups.
Like mentioned, I just wish ESPN would get some games. I could care less about what network carries a game (I think versus does an ok job, and between them, NBC, local channels, and NHL Network I see a decent amount), but without ESPN carrying any, they show no interest in the sport at all. Even if ESPN2 gets a game a week after the NFL season, at least they'd have a stake in the game and would promote it better. My whole life

loved the games on ESPN2 and always followed by NHL 2Night.
where else can they put the caps/pens on a week night though? NBC won't cover anything other than a saturday/sunday afternoon game. NHL needs to get back on ESPN. the sports world is really missing out on these amazing series.0 -

The Great, Largely Unseen, Postseason
Eleven of its playoff games have been decided in the final minute, or in overtime. That includes seven overtime contests and four last-minute scores in regulation to decide games.
Two series required ultimate seventh games. And the second round of its playoffs just commenced.
How can any league lose with a postseason like this one? Easy. See the one I'm talking about, the NHL.
There is no shame for the NHL's postseason games, whose second round started with a crescendo last weekend as the two brightest stars in the league, Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby, led their teams, the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins, to meet each other. Their second meeting Monday night produced something witnessed in an NHL playoff game only three times before -- each player recorded a hat trick.
Unfortunately, it was closer to being the proverbial tree falling in the woods with nobody around. The game was on Versus, formerly OLN, a network that goes to only two-thirds of all cable subscribers in the country.
It is said that more of these games aren't on more stations. It's been very entertaining so far. GO BRUINS

ya i saw the ending in the 3rd OT, incredible. Anaheim is playing much better than an 8 seeded team and are going to give Detroit a good run in this series. I still have Detroit winning in 6 games but could see The Ducks possibly pulling it out somehow.
Too bad about Boston tonight, down by 2 goals and got lucky by having another Hurricans goal waved off "for not going all the way over the goal line". After watching the replay it really looked like that was a goal for sure. Paul Maurice and the boys have to be a little pissed.
The Ducks are the real deal. I picked Detroit in 6 too, so I'm kind of chomping at the bit for tomorrow's game. Even though I hate games on the West coast, stupid 10pm starts. I took Wednesday off of work so I don't have to worry about waking up early. You know, just in case it goes to 3OTs again.
ya, after tonight i'm agreeing that the Ducks are the real deal... but that was a horrible way to end a game
I actually love the 10pm start, i work afternoons so i make it home in time to watch the 3rd instead of listening to it on the radio"I'll ride the wave where it takes me"
