if ovechkin isn't suspended that is crazy.

If you think that there is a chance in hell that Ovechkin is going to be suspended for that, you are crazy.

    No shot he gets suspended

If it wasn't him who did the knee-on-knee that's a 5 min major and a game

When did the Blackhawks take the Amstel Light song as their goal song ?

There is no way that was intentional. Penalty? Yes. Suspension? No.

I'm not even sure if he should... some replays look worse than others.... but to think that the league will take Ovechkin out of a playoff game, is a joke.

The thing that annoys me, if it was a scrub player hitting a star like that, then there would be a suspension...

While the knee on knee wasn't intentional, you have a point there.

Unfortunately that is the nature of the beast in the NHL.

In reality, the result is actually more Gonchar's fault than Ovechkin's. Players always seem to get hurt when someone tries to avoid a hit at the last second. I broke my femur in a game because some guy saw me coming for a hit at the last second and dove into my legs. If Gonchar takes the direct hit instead of trying to side-step it, he gets the wind knocked out of him at the worst.

Human nature to avoid the hit.
Ovechkin is a reckless player and one day he will get injured,
    quite possibly severely.

The first thing that you are taught when you go into body-contact hockey is how to take a hit properly to avoid getting hurt. A direct open-ice hit that you see coming rarely results in an injury. It's the hits that guys don't see coming or try to side-step that results in injury.

I agree that Ovechkin will eventually get hurt with the way he throws himself around looking for the big hit.

Yeah you have to learn how to take a hit.
That is the Canadian way.(Or it used to be).
Sometimes it comes so fast that time is limited.
Gonchar probably never learned that in Russia.

That ovechkin hit looked dirty to me and I guess i was naive enough to think he could be suspended like anyone else. Different rules for different players. Pretty sure that if Orpik did the same thing to Ovechkin we would see a suspension. Oh well, hopefully Gonchar can play tonight. And if Crosby or Malkin get a good opportunity to knee someone on the caps they shouldn't have to worry about being suspended since they are crowd favourites as well.

Would it have been a dirty hit if Gonchar didn't try to jump out of the way? Then what makes accidental knee on knee contact suspendable? Ovechkin had as much chance of getting hurt as Gonchar on that play. If Ovechkin was hurt on the play, should Gonchar have been suspended?

Ovechkin himself admitted it was a dirty hit. He said it was accidental but he also said it was dirty. Oveckin was the one who made the hit with his knee further out than his shoulder or body while Gonchar was obviously trying to get out of the way.

Good for Ovie. What he meant to say was that Gonchar should have taken the hit instead of trying to dance out of the way. Some guys are scared to get hit though.

Sometimes you have to read between the lines. Gonchar was hurt and I'm sure that Ovechkin feels bad about that so he's not going to say anything negative -- it's similar to the guy who gets penalized for hurting somebody who purposely turns their back to get hit from behind so they can draw a penalty -- the penalized player wants to berate the idiot for intentionally turning his back, but he doesn't because 9 times out of 10, the guy who turned his back got hurt.

Everybody who has ever played contact hockey before saw that hit and wondered where the hell Gonchar thought he was going to escape to.

Great game... and what an entertaining series... Too bad the majority of the US hasn't seen this series, but that college volleyball on billiards on ESPN2 has been breathtaking as well.

What an embarrassment. I had to laugh when I saw that he would probably be out for Game 5 with facial injuries...
Looks like he's probably going to need surgery...

Not that dirty. And if he does get away with dirty play I guess now we know why. Maybe it will be the new trend of the nhl. Superstars kneeing each other with no real punishment.

I thought it was pretty funny reading about Ovechkin complaining about not getting any lucky breaks. I would think not being suspended was pretty lucky. But once again there was no luck involved since fans would have to be crazy to think the mighty O could ever be suspended.

Of course when O was talking about no lucky breaks he may have meant something entirely different. We would have to ask songburst about that.
