I started a thread about this on the LOST forum that I'm a member of...thought I'd pose it to you folks as well:

I'm slightly confused about the "Locke has to die" thing. Richard told Locke that he would have to die (I forget which epi that was in). But Ben stopped Locke from committing suicide. Aren't Ben & Richard on the same team? Someone help me understand this! LOL! I guess what I'm saying is...wouldn't Ben have known that Locke needed to die??

I know Richard and Ben had a falling out before Ben left the island and Ben told Locke that his people had chosen Locke as the new leader. And Richard told Locke we need someone to remind us of reason we're here and that we've lost track of that under Ben or something to that extent.

I could be wrong here, but didn't Richard tell Locke the whole you have to bring them back and have to die thing after Ben was gone from the island? So it could be that Ben doesn't know Richard's plan.

That whole scene felt like a final Walt cameo to me. Just like a goodbye scene. Series is wrapping up in 1 1/2 seasons, and since the Michael storyline is wrapped up, I think the Walt one is too. I just don't see him adding anything more.
I disagree. I think we'll be seeing alot more of Walt this season and next. He's "special"...in a good way.

Plus, I dreamed that Walt was on the Ajira flight.
I think Walt will be back too. The Others were so interested in getting him in Season 1.

Amentschick and whoprincess, what did you think of last night's episode?

I'm also thinking we haven't seen the last of Walt. Remember him going to see Hurley in the hospital to tell him about Locke's visit?

I agree that Ben didn't know about Locke needing to die. I think he wanted to find out as much as he could from Locke, then kill him so he could get back to the island himself. Now why he's telling Jack they need to bring Locke's body, I don't know. Unless Mrs. Hawking told him that.

Poncier, I noticed that about Jack's beard too. Because that beard looks like a dead animal on his face.

Did anybody else wonder if it meant anything about Locke finding out that Helen was dead? Like her death was something that would motivate him to get back to the island?

I enjoyed last night's episode. I felt like Lost was getting back on track.

Ben seemed surprised that Eloise Hawking was alive and in LA. I wonder if she left the island (assuming she is that young blond girl who held daniel at gunpoint) with Widmore when he was "exiled."

    If she really is dead.

I still don't trust Widmore and what better motivation for Locke to continue through trying to get everyone back on the island then letting him think the one person he loved and might keep him from his mission is dead.

I mean he staged a fake plane full of dead corpses - it isn't beyond reason to think he could have just had a tombstone set up.

I also wondered if Helen might not be dead.

I think we are going to see her again, at the very least in another back story about Locke. There was too much attention paid to her in this episode. When Kate asked Locke if he had ever been in love he told her about Helen. Plus the fact that he had Abaddon looking for her after all this time. As important as she was to Locke, she will be part of his story.

I don't necessarily trust Widmore either. Poor Locke has shown himself to be so gullible in the past. At the same time I think seeing Widmore behave the way he did in this episode was characteristic of other things we've talked about with Lost, that you can't be sure if they're good or bad.

  • I know I'm not supposed to put any spoilers in this thread so I apologize in advance. I found a scene from next week's episode that is very interesting. I don't know how the writers are going to tie this in with the current storylines. Maybe The Professor was Faraday's father?

What was it that you didn't care for?

Ben's behavior didn't surprise me. We've already seen that he gave the orders to wipe out all the members of the Dharma Initiative, including his own father and his childhood friend, then he killed Keamy knowing that it would blow up the freighter and kill everyone on board. He doesn't seem to have any qualms about killing people.

Don't forget that he's already shot Locke and left him for dead. At least this time he had the balls to stay and make sure he got the job done.
