I mean Jack, Hurley, Sayid and Sun all presumably would be using their real names and Kate would have to be using some sort of fake id because she's still under probation and can't leave the state.

Wouldn't some sort of red flag go up on the airline computers not letting them be on the same flight sort of how like brothers can't be on the same ship in the navy for example?

I just can't see how any airline would allow all of them to purchase tickets for the same flight.

They're not related so the brothers example doesn't really fit. I was going to say I remember Oceanic gave them all free flights forever, but then I remembered they weren't on an Oceanic flight.

If they all bought tickets at different times, I could see how no one would notice especially if it is an out of the way airline.

Anyway, that is one thing with the show that I am willing to let slide if the episodes would improve.

Among the lame moments in last week's episode (there were many), did anyone else think it was strange that Jack didn't have anything of his dad's that he could give to Locke? I mean, no little memento that he could part with? A watch or something? ANYTHING? Then he goes to see his grandfather (who looks younger than his father) who JUST HAPPENS to have a pair of dad's shoes! What are the odds? OK, this is Lost so I guess the odds are pretty good. But really, granddad has kept these shoes around for 3 years, WTF? Then he's so attached to them that he just lets Jack take them. Good thing too cuz Jack hasn't been looking around for anything else to give to Locke. Then, incredibly enough, when Jack goes to put the shoes on Locke they are a PERFECT FIT! What ARE the odds? Oh, yeah . . . . Doncha know Lock is gonna be grateful for those wingtips when he gets back to the island . . . .

I know, I know, Lost is supposed to stretch things but the more I think about last week the more things bother me: the build-up to the meeting in the church was pretty much for nothing, Kate agreed to go with no explanation and Jack just accepted it, nobody asked about what happened to Ben--they've got a lot of gaps to fill in with this one.

Why did Ben want everybody to meet at the marina before they even knew Desmond was in town?
Maybe he got afoul of some Colombian drug lord.

I can see that. This has happened to me in the past, where I wasn't into an episode or two and then an episode will come on (usually one I'm not that excited about) and it will blow me away. I have been hoping that will happen with this week's episode, but I have been waiting for that to happen for the last four episodes.

Good post. Not to mention, the whole thing about having to have something from his dad is just lame and just wastes time having Jack running around trying to find something from his dad. If you can get past that, then your points about the shoes are very valid.

Your point about the church is dead on. That is really something I was disappointed in. Here is a point where we think we might be really getting some real answers or something very exciting is going to happen and it was just a complete letdown.

Sort of how like there is a do not fly list for people after the whole Patriot Act i.e. why Cat Stevens can't fly anymore in the U.S. There is no way an airline would allow those four to fly on the same plane.

Why wouldn't they allow them to fly on the same plane? You're assuming that everybody would be superstitious about them. I know that when they all got on a new plane it crashed, but that was only because it was that specific plane, at that specific time. If they had gotten on any other plane together it wouldn't have crashed.

I though that was because of this dreck.
    This weekend we rock Portland
  • I don't have time to read through all of these threads and wanted to see if these questions have been answered or if you think we'll get answers:

    1. Who are The Others? They answered who the Dharma project was, but not the original inhabitants of the island.

    2. Back in the 50's, was the US miliary building an H bomb on the island or did the military get the Others to build it?

    3. When this season started and they showed Faraday working for Dharma, that was supposed to be three years after the end of last season, right? After the end of last season the people on the island started jumping around in time, right? The last we saw them was when John turned the wheel. That wasn't long after the end of last season. So jack and them are back on the island three years later. So either the island jumped around in time for three years or it stopped after John turned the wheel. I guess we'll see what time John ended up and what happened to the people on the island for three years.

    4. How come only certain people travel in time with the island? The Others aren't traveling in time. Why? All the people from the plane crash travel along with Juliet (an Other), the people on the "Rescue" boat all travel. That is weird.

    5. What is the temple that the smoke monster protects? What is the smoke monster?

    6. Four toed statue?

Lots of stuff to answer in the next two seasons.

They haven't answered that yet. My guess is that they've always been there and/or they are somehow descendants of the Oceanic 6, in a weird time loop storyline.

They haven't answered that yet. My guess is it involved the US military, and it's now hidden under one of the hatches.

The scene with Farady/Dharma was not in sequence with the rest of the episode. The Oceanic 6 are shown 3 years after they left the island. Everyone still on the island is shown moments after the end last season. The opening sequence with Faraday shows how he has travelled back in time before, or that he will eventually go back there. It's still unclear, but it's not linear to the rest of the episode/season.

Only the Lostie's travel, and those in their group (Juliet, Miles, Faraday, etc). Was anyone else on the island when Ben moved it? There had to be other Others, right? If so, we don't know for sure that they are NOT travelling. Either whoever was on the island (or in its vicinity) when Ben moved it time travels, or only the Losties group travels. I wouldn't read too much into it. Everyone we were following on the island is travelling, we don't know about who else was there, so it doesn't really create any logic problems.

I don't think we know yet. I believe Ben had is people, the other Others, go to the temple when he moved the island, right? Maybe that will solve your previous question, when we figure out what happened to them. Maybe it's a safe zone for when the island skips around. The smoke monster is a 'security system' that protects the island, or at least certain parts of it. What it is, how it works and why are still unknown, but Ben somehow has an ability to control it to a certain extent.

Still don't know about the statue, BUT they focused on Sawyer stepping on something and stabbing his foot. They haven't followed up on this, other than him complaining a couple times. They don't do thing for no reason (usually), so I have a feeling it'll get infected, he'll have it amputated, and he'll do something heroic in the distant past that will cause a statue to be built for him.

I agree, between Ben and Widmore, they seem to be able to cover up and influence a lot of things. It is pretty hard to put a fake airplane at the bottom of the ocean, if you can do that, I am sure you have the power to do a lot of things.

Among the lame moments in last week's episode (there were many), did anyone else think it was strange that Jack didn't have anything of his dad's that he could give to Locke? I mean, no little memento that he could part with? A watch or something? ANYTHING? j/k, seriously thanks! What cracks me up is how much you and I think alike! I completely agree on it being the 2nd worst episode and which one was the worst!
It did have a few good spots though, like when the pilot said "We're not going to Guam, are we?" Although I can't stop thinking about him with that mullet . .

Dude. You're awesome!! All excellent thoughts...and again...I was also extremely disappointed with last week's epi. It was the worst second only to the Jack's Tattoos epi.
    That's Princess to you!

j/k, seriously thanks! What cracks me up is how much you and I think alike! I completely agree on it being the 2nd worst episode and which one was the worst!
It did have a few good spots though, like when the pilot said "We're not going to Guam, are we?" Although I can't stop thinking about him with that mullet . . .

Don't worry about the gender mix-up. Long story how I got the nickname and I'm not really very princess-like.

What do you mean, gender mix up? I wasn't calling you a guy when I said "dude"....I was just saying Dude...sorry...I'm from So Cal...it's second nature.

And, the highlight of the epi for me was when Ms. Hawking said, "Probably so" in regards to Ben lying.

  • I didn't think about that. Maybe the "Others" were in the temple and that is why they are not traveling in time.

Something else that bothers me. Remember the big dude with the fake beard that went off the island to talk to Michael? He said that some of them come and go as they please. Why is it so easy for some people just to come and go as they please, but Jack and his peeps have to go through the whole ordeal just to find the island.

I guess that is it for now. I love the show. I thought season one was great. Season two into season three was ok. During season three they took about a three month break and then it got awesome. That was the season that ended with Charlie dead and the flash forwards. Last season was ok, but I liked the end to season three much better. This season has been pretty good, but I think it's getting a little bit out there. It's starting to remind me of that scene toward the end of the second Matrix movie with the Colonel Sanders looking dude.

Ah, well, I'd better brush up on my popular culture or make more trips to So Cal.

Yeah, I liked that too, just about the only thing I liked about the meeting in the church. So much build up to that and then so little revelation. :|

Good point. A lot of these questions and what-ifs are starting to bug me. It's just not making sense...and last week was totally ridiculous.

There WAS no revelation. Nothing that woman said made any sort of sense...(other than her comment about Ben lying). "So yeah, in order to get back to the island you need to recreate the Oceanic flight as best as you can...and the 06 all need to be there...well yeah...except for Aaron...and oh, yeah...Ben's going to be on the flight even though he wasn't initally...and another thing, Locke is dead and is going to play Christian on this flight...so you need something of your dad's...shoes? great!...and look, they're a perfect fit!" COME ON!
