I might start up one of these cute Facebook sites that the kids do nowadays - something along the lines of "Put LA and Franzke on TV", and "Fire Wheels and McCarthy". I'm sure that'll change things.
everyone but Sarge is horrendous. mccarthy grew up as a mets fan I believe. he's a poseur. not to mention a shitty announcer. the phils broadcast is brutal
Yeah, I don't know what the deal is with McCarthy. He worked here, then left for NY for the year, and now is back. I was so happy when he left. I think he's from Jersey or something, so I don't know which side of the fence he's on.
Wheels is a fucking pedophile. Grow some fucking sideburns!!
And another thing, why wouldn't you play Francisco in the outfield and put Raul in the DH? I don't know how you don't do this every time you're in an American League ballpark against a lefty.

anyone else get the feeling this isn't turning around this year? that this is just going to be one of those years where things just don't go your way? not sensing good things at this point. hope i'm wrong but ain't seeing it.

Can't say that I don't have passing thoughts of this.....but it's a long season. It took runs at the end of the year to win the division in 2007 and 2008 so it looks like that's what has to happen. The Mets will falter as usual. It's a two team race with Philly and Atlanta.
each of the last few years they hovered around the .500 mark into july. i'm not buying into that "this isn't their year" stuff just yet. but the difference between this year and year's past is we don't have the chips to improve at the trade deadline. we have to hope that happ, j roll, and madsen will be enough....maybe pedro.
the hitting will come around. these guys are too good not to. my concern is still with the pitching. other than halladay and hamels...there's not much there. moyer and kendrick have been decent but i have no faith in them down the stretch. and blanton has been absolutely terrible.

the cliff lee trade was awful.
i don't know, just feels different. the last two years we knew, flat out knew, they were going to win - just had that sense. for some reason this season has a gloom and doom feel to it. hope i'm wrong but can't shake that feeling you know. even last year when they struggled in June just felt they were way better than everyone else in the division and would end up winning. maybe because the division is much improved but i just don't get the feeling this year.
Amaros made two really bad decesions this year imo. Trading away a stud pitcher for 3 so so prospects will haunt me forever. And secondly the brutal bench he put together. These guys are stiffs and something has to be done, because its hard to sit struggling starters when u have trash as there backups. Also If we don't pick it up in the next week or two then I'd get real worried. Its bothersome to me that were this bad this though.

how did '07 feel this time of year?
this is a 2nd half team. they're home for like the whole month of august. just gotta weather this storm...
I saw that too. I'm not real excited about that, but I guess I'd rather have pedro start a playoff game than moyer or kendrick. In a 7 game series they'd have
halladay
hamels
blanton (I'm not worried about him, I think he turns things around soon)
happ/pedro/halladay (with halladay possibly pitching games 1, 4, 7).
Moyer pitching tonight...the game should get an explicit TV rating, not safe for children to watch

i hope you're right about blanton. he normally pitches better down the stretch anyway.

well this is the worst record we have had and the most games out at this time in the 4 years you list - so i would say it's not quite the same as the last 3 years. and we are currently in 3rd place and closer to last than 1st - just saying.

2 points...
1 - the phils have had more key injuries to deal with this year than they had combined in 2007-2009 (lidge, happ, madson, blanton, rollins, polanco, ruiz, romero). they were fortunate with injuries during the last few years.
2 - this slump has been brutal, but I think it's been overblown by the bandwagon media and fans that are suddenly interested in this team. philly has always been a football town. with that comes the belief that getting swept in a 3 game series is the end of the world. this couldn't be further from the truth...baseball is a long season. there are bound to be peaks and valleys to every season.
This team is too talented to continue playing like this (assuming they're healthy). They've been awful for a month, but they are getting healthy.
and let's keep things in perspective here...they're only 3.5 games out of first place. and it's not like they're chasing the 1927 yankees. atlanta is good...the rest of the division is average.
Let's see how the next 2 months go before we start reaching for the panic button

not saying you're wrong and not saying they won't turn it around - just that my sense is this is not good and for some reason i dread this so-called slump more than other years. i just have a bad feeling about this season that i can't shake.
fixer makes good points...except there is no overblowing a slump that has now lasted a full month. and its not just local media talking about.
when the whole lineup 1-8 just stops hitting and producing runs at the same exact time, for a full month that's gonna get people's attention. i can't recal a time even during the lean 90's when everyone slumped at the same time. those teams just didnt have talent and always sucked. this team is stacked and they are playing like those teams. you just don't see this too often.
If you polled some of the scouts who do the divisional coverage and ask them which player they respect the most, a lot of votes would go to Chase Utley, because the scouts are convinced that he plays through injuries as much as anybody in the game -- without complaining, without talking about his ailments, without making excuses.
And right now, a lot of those evaluators are convinced that he is not close to being 100 percent physically.
Two years ago, one scout noticed in June that Utley did not seem right, and at season's end, Utley had hip surgery. And the same scout is seeing a lot of the same things this season. "The tell-tale sign for me is how he is not getting to pitches in the lower half of the strike zone, which makes me wonder if his (perceived injury) might be affecting his balance at the plate," said the scout. "He's a guy who has always thrived on balls in the lower half of the strike zone -- he murders them -- and he's just not getting to them these days."
Said a rival executive: "He just does not look right to me at all."
