What I love about the WAR stat the most, and those that choose to totally exclude it, is the eerie similarity to religious freaks not wanting to accept evolution. It's the baseball version of "Inherit The Wind".

I'd love to see him do anything not baseball-related. I would love to get hammered with that man.

EDIT: After reading Cliff's response, yes, I mean anything.

What exactly has the War teams won? If i told ya player A was gonna hit 42hrs and 140rbis,how can any stat prove that's not productive?

The original article by Bill Conlin (http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/phi ... ?viewAll=y) sounds like something a Howard fan-boy like me would write in response to The Fixer's criticism.

Wheter or not Howard made the player get into a spot to score,by doing his job the phillies put a run on the board. I'm sure if you go back there's many of #4 hitters who had alot of chances to knock in RBI's and they can't sniff Howard's production.

I loved that Conlin article. By the way, Howard is hitting .317 with RISP this year. In case you're wondering where he got all those ribeyes that don't mean anything.

I think the WAR people are the brainwashed cult, personally. And I think I've demonstrated that I have a full understanding (as much as one can) of what WAR is.

on the opposite end of the spectrum are the people who treat WAR like the be-all-end-all. frankly all stats in baseball are a bit suspect because not all situations are the same. big hits in big games and best players on perenial winners are more valuable than great players on bad teams. it's much easier being a great player on a shitty team than a top level player on a 4 time division champion. it just is.

and i read conlin's original article and why i agree with the premise the contents of the article were pretty much crap. he could have made better arguments than comparing him to a guy from 80 years ago.
