I was sitting in right field last night during Vic's homerun. It was going to land a couple rows in front of me so I was expecting a bounce. It's bounces and lands in kids lap the row in front of me and 2 seats over. The kid never even moved. He was eating an ice cream cone and it gently lands in his lap. 41 years and counting and still no baseball for me. That was the highlight of the night.

I have been lucky with that stuff. 3 and counting for this guy. one was a howard walk off in extra innings vs LAD

    RIP Phillies

So I guess basketball is the only remaining sport with a discernible home field/ice/court advantage???

Yo dude, I gotta eat a little crow on a little bit of my Dave Grohl hate. Dude tipped a grand on one drink at smith and wolleksky that Friday he was here then another grand on a few drinks that Saturday night. Good for him.

That's really awesome. I've suffered from Foo-overload a little bit recently, but I have tons of respect for those guys.

I seem to be eating crow on saying the Phils are WS contenders last week. But it's still a long season. It's fucking ugly though.

I hear you. I think that's pretty awesome of him.

Rough stretch to say the least. There was a pretty good/intense crowd down there on Tuesday, I thought.

You know, I gotta say. Without Mr. Howard, this lineup really fucking blows. I think part of me was buying into all the sabr crap, but the results speak for themselves. What, one comeback in the first two months of the season? Once this team is down, you know the game is over.

How about that scrapheap in the 9th inning the other day - Mayberry, Fontenot, Galvis.

well, the lineup sucks with him too.

the phils should hire banner to run the franchise

Dude, did you say the Cardinals had a solid bullpen last year? Their bullpen blew most of the year, as they went through a carousel of closers. They just got into a groove in September and October and rode it to the championship.

You specifically talked trash about the Cardinals and how much you wanted to play them, while I was saying to throw the games and let the Braves win the Wild Card.

And yes, this Phillies team is still a legit WS contender. I'm not a fan of the contracts Amaro has handed out and I don't like the direction the team is headed in, but this team, this year, is a WS contender. That's what the argument was, for today.

like I said, that cards team was identically built to the 08 phils team. No, I dind't realize that last september, but that's how things played out. Great lineup, solid pen, avg rotation with an ace, good bench.

I still think the phils win that series if the stupid hick starts doc in game 4, then lee in game 5 if they needed him. the memory of lee throwing in the pen late in game 5 will forever be etched in my memory. beyond stupid

The 2012 phils have none of those traits. they have 3 aces and a roster full of dog shit

I will be watching the PawSox take on the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs in about an hour. Who am I focusing on? Who's the quality guys down at TripleA for the Phillies?

you can see our former savior, dom brown, struggle to catch fly balls and get on base. he'll be in left.

actually OBP is one of his strengths

apparently he shortened his swing (which was desperately needed) and he has been swinging well of late. If he stays hot for another week or two I'd get him up here immediately and leave him in LF. I can't take pierre/mayberry anymore

It was a good 5 year run  :(

I'm with ya. And I don't just consider it a five year run. It's more of a 10 year run that started with Bowa as manager and a good farm system. Consistent improvement over the next few years, home-grown talent that panned out, a dick-tease in 2007, and then the greatest moment in my sports fan life in 2008. And years from now I won't look back sourly on 2009-2011 and wonder what might have been because I enjoyed the seasons way more than I enjoyed any 1988-1992, 1994-2001 season. Like you said, a good run. I mean at the end of the day, I witnessed the Philadelphia Phillies win the World Series. Still feels strange even typing that.

yeah, he produces until the games really count come playoff time

it doesn't help that amaro knew howard was going to be out for a while and uses the pu pu platter of thome/mayberry/wigginton to play 1B

at least they have a closer though

yeah, that was only 4 years ago  . dude is a shell of his former self. he was pretty damn good from 06-08. from 09-current he's an avg 1B who's paid like a superstar.

the dummies justiying his playoff stats need to do some research. since the 09 WS he has been a total playoff liability. you would think this would be common knowledge for people that watched the games

I like the phils first few picks. Really don't like the dummy they took in round 2 though. Apparently he was a lightning rod for criticism in the state of Arizona. He had to transfer schools after his junior year because he punched a coach (the fact he was even eligible to play his sr caused a lot of scrutiny state-wide). Dude is enormous (like 6'6, 240)...has a full ride as a DE to play at University of Arizona. Sounds like a moron and the consensus is that the phils took him way too high (and possibly wasted a high pick if he goes the football route).

Some of the prep arms they got early look pretty damn good from the clips I have seen. The Iowa kid they got in the third sounds like a real steal

Hopefully we (I mean I, since no one else seems to care) will be reading about some signings real soon

Ha, that's pretty hilarious about the second round pick. What an idiot.

Signings are happening right away. Can't believe the first overall is signed already, much easier this year with the cap though.

yep, the deadline being moved up helps as well. will be nice to see these kids get started in the minors right away. so much better than them having to play winter ball and start their minor league careers the following year.

    now minaya...SIGN SOLER!!!

Yeah, definitely got to get them to A ball right away, Yanks kid is motivated to to get going and working.

I think the Cubs sign him. Perfect situation for them, I think. Would love for the Yanks to sign him though.

I'm betting on cubs as well. Theo hasnt really made a splash yet. I could see him signing soler, trading garza and/or dempster (and possibly lahair, who should bring nothing in return), then the theo slurping will commence

Haha, yeah. I definitely think Garza and Dempster will be traded. No reason not to, they aren't going to help them win. Garza should get them a good prospect or two. I know Yanks have/had some interest. Garza is a douchebag, but I like him as a pitcher.
