yeah but apparently his wife is due any day now and he left her to meet with ruben. sooo, maybe that means they are close to a deal?

if they're really keeping dom down in lehigh for a full year, i'd take a shot on this cat if they can swing it for 2 years. upgrade over raul and hits lefties well.

by the way--did you even realize michael nutter was up for reelection? apparently he defeated some math teacher tonight.

referendum on sports gambling in ac passed. hurdles still remain before it can actually happen though. could still be a while. big step taken tonight though.

i would love this. i'd still bet the same way i do now, but it would be cool to head down to their sports books for football and tourney time. good stuff.

edit---actually this would've been a lot cooler had it passed about 10 years ago when the juggler was in his early 20's and not married.

that is good news. no reason why sports gambling isn't legal in this country. and i can't believe the leagues fight it. the soccer teams in Europe makes millions on the advertising for sports gambling and even some have it where you can bet right in the stadiums.

that being said i don't think AC Casino's can handle the crowds they would get at sports books for NFL sundays and the NCAA Tourney. they will need to build new much larger scale rooms. even Vegas gets too crowded for those events and the number of day trippers to AC for those events would be insane.
  • The Madson contract could be worse I guess. He's signing thru age 35/36 - he should be good at least 2 of those years. It's a pretty long deal though. Even though it didn't matter this year, it's hard to win playoff series without a good closer. Even I, the world's biggest closer hater, can admit that.

Don't want any part of Cuddyer here. Just play Mayberry and see if Brown gets better this year.

So upper management isn't down with handing out big contract after big contract? Especially to a reliever?

thing i like about cuddyer would be his versatility. he can play first and left. i think he can play 3rd too right? polanco's hurt ever year and is in the last year of his contract. they could just move him to 3rd when polanco's done.

i agree with you on madson. wonder what the hold up is though..

That is not necessarily the case. Heath Bell is a free agent, Bailey can be had in a trade (probably not an option with the Phillies recent trades) and others could come available. The hold up is probably that they bid against themselves and realized Boras beat them over the head before other teams made offers.

i don't think i want heath bell. i think papelbon's the only other guy they've talked to thus far. i'm guessing they would open those talks up again of this madson deal fell through.

    we shall see.

cuddyer is expected to get 3+ years. no way he signs for 2

the madson deal is expected to be 4 years with a 5th year option that will vest based on incentives  .

amaro is like a teenage boy seeing a pair of tits for the first time. He's outta control with these ridiculous contracts

I am glad it passed so that jersey can increase state revenue.

Like you said, I'm gonna continue the way I've been betting for the last 20 years.

Sportsbooks are overrated. HIt vegas for my bach party during first weekend of march madness and it sucked (the sportsbooks I mean, vegas is awesome)

Dude, closers are a dime a dozen. the '09 phils came within two wins of winning the WS with a version of brad lidge that couldn't get anyone out. The cards just won with jason motte as their closer.

The Madson contract is ridiculous. No one has given a RP a 4 year deal in something like 5 years. Amaro went above and beyond and decided to go 5 (with the option that will vest).

    Ughhhh

I wouldn't mind him getting a one year deal for something like $2 mill. He would be a good role model to have for these young pen arms coming up. I just wouldn't expect anything from him performance-wise.

You're right though - it's a bad contract. I think this team is gonna really suck in 2014. :(

Bell is gonna get arbitration. I don't think he's going anywhere.

Papelbon fucking blows. I wouldn't touch that dude with a 10' pole.

If it were me I would sign nathan or some other fringe-closer type for a year or two. give the reigns of the bullpen to the young guys (aumont, defratus, stutes, savery, diekman, hyatt, etc). You can usually find bullpen guys during the year. 5 years for a closer...wtf

they also could've won if their cleanup hitter gave them anything in that series (other than all the whiffs). Lidge didn't lose that series. Hamels in game 3, victorino dropping the ball in game 3, howard, pedro starting game 6, manuel. those were the biggest reasons they lost that series IMO. LIdge would be pretty far down on my list of blame (though he should have been covering third on the damon play...that play still burns me up  )

cuddyer can play 2B as well. he doesn't really play any of those positions well though. And he's 33.

Love how the dipshits in the media are saying he'd be a good fit because the lineup is so lefthanded. The only two lefties in the starting 8 are utley and howard. I can't stand stupidity.

Got my ticket invoice for 2012 today. Thought for sure my tix would have gone up again, but they stayed the same. I better pay this thing before amaro starts locking up these insane contracts and they re-send me a new invoice.

Worst part of seeing the invoice was the deduction for my unused playoff tix.

assuming the contracts are similar this is certifiably insane. I don't want either guy for 4-5 years, but I'd much much rather have madson if forced to choose

I think montgomery has a hard on for rollins. My guess is that they are going to sign him over madson...then try to sign papelbon to a lesser deal than what they would have given madson.

I have no confidence in the montgomery/amaro tandem with contracts...complete opposite confidence level I had in gillick. I'm expecting the worst and hoping for the best.

how about Ramos from the Nats getting kidnapped in Venezuela. that's fucked up. i know there was a story a few years ago how dangerous it was for guys to go back there and to leave their families there. hope they find the guy and he ends up being ok.

apparently it's common for athletes and politicians families to be kidnapped and held for ransom. I can't imagine that shit. Sounds like the storyline for one of those terrible steven seagall movies.
