That's probably why he has given up a few runs, knows you weren't watching and it's getting to him.

Nice, that's good shit. Going to be a blast.

Also, double-damnit for not realizing how good of a trip this Toronto series would have been for this weekend.

Yeah, but then you would have to spend the 4th of July in Canada. That doesn't seem right. Toronto is a great time though.

For anyone who wants to know who the most professional hitter in this lineup is he just put the Phils in front.

John Farrell told everyone what they need to know earlier. The debate is over.

Wait, I missed it. Did he walk Chase to get to Howard or something?

Damn, what a nice fucking pitch by Doc.

Yeah, 2nd and 3rd, 2 outs, intentionally walked utley. Howard proceeded to strike out.

It was just announced that Polanco, Halladay, Lee, and Hamels have made the all-start game.

And you can still vote for Victorino to be the last member of the team: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/all_star/ ... ot-FV-2011

During the middle of the 2nd my facebook status read

"Ah the Blue Jays trying to make a fun game for the fans by going down 4-0 after one and a half innings, blatantly done just to allow a dramatic comeback."

I was being sarcastic didn't actually expect them to do it.

Good comeback. Your team can mash.

Still 9-6 vs the AL. Better than the old days of going 4-11. :)

I think that right there pretty much tells you what people think of Howard as a hitter.

Debate settled on the Howard/utley conversation.

I don't know why more teams don't walk utley to get to howard with a base open in a big spot. If I was a manager I would do that every time.

Also, today's outcome sucked, but they still won the series. The thing that I don't get is why the dummy manager used stutes after they fell behind by 3. And he had him up yesterday after the phls fell behind late. I think he's trying to burn the kid out.

Juan Rivera designated for assignment. He's another guy I'd take a look at. I'd prefer him to cameron.

Just left the lakewood blues claws game in Maryland. Anthony Hewitt was a beast tonight going 3-5 with a blast to left center. Watch out for this relief pitcher Castillo in a few years the kid has nasty stuff. Other then that know one else stood out besides the 3rd basemens def. 10-5 lakewood with 18 hits.

"this time it counts." thanks, bud.

as utterly absurd as an all star game deciding home field in the sport's championship series is, having three fifths of your rotation make the team is pretty fucking incredible.

i don't think vic's gonna make it this time, though, since they'll be on the road this week destroying the marlins....

Espn insider article on best/worst defensive players at their position. Ryan Howard may be improved in the field, but he's still awful. Ibanez got the 'no star' in LF, with -8 runs saved. Seemed low to me, I figured he'd be around -20

First base: Todd Helton (1 run saved)

Honorable mention -- Adam LaRoche (2 runs saved)
No star -- Ryan Howard (minus-12 runs saved), Miguel Cabrera (minus-10 runs saved)

No first baseman has stood out this year, but Todd Helton has been as consistent as they come, rating above average each of the past five seasons. He's also contributed 26 good fielding plays against just two defensive misplays, a spectacular ratio. Adam LaRoche has been a tremendous upgrade for Washington, though that says more about his predecessor (Adam Dunn) than LaRoche's particular strengths.

This would be a solid signing. Brutal in the field, but he can hit.

•The Phillies will likely have a look at Juan Rivera, who was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays this morning, according to Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer (via Twitter). The Phils are rumored to be seeking a right-handed bat, and Rivera would fit that bill at a presumably cheap price. For his career, the 33-year-old (today) is hitting .292/.339/.509 against southpaws.

I think the old system of the leagues rotating home-field in the World Series was pretty lame as well. It should go to the team with the better record. I remember my younger-self being quite annoyed with the Blue Jays having home-field over Philly in 1993 despite having two less regular-season wins.

true. i would prefer that over an exhibition game that neither team cares about winning deciding it though. its one of the dumbest things in all of sports, next to one league having a designated hitter.

but it's tougher in baseball since every team doesn't play each other.
