There was an article on espn last week that debunked the myth of momentum going into the playoffs. It doesn't mean anything. There are quite a few of World Champions who went into the playoffs with dreadful losing streaks. Get everyone ready for the playoffs and don't worry about this week, after the clinching, of course.

    Yep, Chase is awesome.

I agree with everything here. Most important thing going into the playoffs is to have your rotation set up however they prefer, which the phils will be able to do.

As for who I want them to play...I don't think it matters. I guess if I had to pick one team I wouldn't want them to play it would be SF, but that lineup is atrocious...and the phils always seem to struggle in SF (even though they don't play there often). They never lose in SD and they always seem to kick the reds asses.

anyone know what the magic number is to clinch the 1 seed?

I believe it's 2 to beat the Giants, 1 to beat the Reds.

just got my playoff tix. hopefully they get to the WS, I have 106, row 19 for game 1. 205 row 4 for NCLS game 5 and 315 row 7 for NLDS game 5. I'm fine with the seats they gave me, just disappointed with what games I got stuck with.

I understand that I can't get the seats I have for the regular season (106), but I feel like I should get something at least a little bit similar to those. Not freakin Section 428. Ridiculous.

I think I'm wrong. It's just 1 to beat the Padres or Giants. We just need to get a tie with either of them.

Phillies get tiebreaker over Padres based on head-to-head record (5-2).

Phillies tied head-to-head vs. Giants (3-3), but the 2nd tiebreaker is "intra-division record." Phillies went 22-10 vs. NL West & Giants went 19-14 vs. NL East, so I think Phils get tiebreaker. Of course, I might be misunderstanding that 2nd tiebreaker, but that sounds about right.

So anyway, win tonight (up 4-0!) and Phils have homefield advantage all the way through the playoffs!

Have I mentioned that I love chase utley? That slide was great, he smeared that mf'er. Apparently pelfrey was running his mouth from the dugout. He's near the top of my hate list with reyes and arod.
yea it was so great to smear a rookie whose barely 165 pounds

thats class right there by utley

i wouldn't expect anything less from a phily fan to be proud of that. i mean who can ever forget throwing batteries at jd drew. thats also class  .

my have we forgetting all these shit philly teams of the 90's and 00's. jealous of your pity 4 straight division champs and a world series loss to the yankees and a world series win, thats funny. no im jealous of the yankees 27 worlds series and 40 pennats. when you get half of that then i'll be little jealous. it was a dickhead move by utley. if he woulda done that in the 60's-80's, he woulda beaned right square in the skull. today their all buddy buddy and unionized. least utley had class and asked if teajda was ok.

I haven't forgotten those teams. They just make this era of phils baseball even sweeter.

I don't think what utley did was dirty. He should have been thrown at though. Too bad no one on the mets pitching staff has any balls.

mets felt silding into him woulda been better. to bad they had mr.whiffer do it. coulda had someone like duida or davis do it. someone whose bigger then beltran.

i don't mind the slide at all just that he didn't have to go hard into a rookie whose a twig

I think Wally Backman and Lenny Dykstra would disagree with probably every Mets fan having a problem with that slide. Maybe if they had half the heart any of these 4 teams have had or your '86 team you'd have no problem with it. It's called grasping for straws is what it is. You play the game hard. Utley wouldn't care if the Blessed Virgin Mary was turning two at second base.

And the Phillies had only 2 losing seasons since 2000. So not a lot of "shitty" teams in the '00s, bud.

Onto better things.....3 more outs until this will happen - Since divisional play started in 1969, other than the Braves' crazy streak of 14 division titles, the Phils will be only the second NL team to win 4 straight division titles. That's an accomplishment they should be damn well proud of.

    Tom McCarthy ruins everything.

Glad to see them not get too excited about it - I mean the veterans who have been there the past three years. But extra glad to see those never there to finally get a chance such as Doc, Sweeney, the rooks.

And LOVE the following down to DC.

Yeah, that little pedophile must be in the locker room because I didn't hear him blabber on through the 9th at all. Though McCarthy still hasn't shut the fuck up.

like i said i don't have a problem with it but don't do it to a rookie whose a twig and whose playing for his entire career. what happens if utley woulda broken his leg and the kid is out all of next season and the mets move onto the next prospect. the mets problems is they got no leader(something wright should be) or a business like clubhouse.
