I am pretty sure he is under control for 2 more years and yeah, if Victorino, Rollins and him could get on base consistently, it would pretty crazy.

And I gotta say, Rollins at 8.5 mil is a super deal. What ya think he gets past 2011? 13-16 mil per?

No way he gets 13-16 as a 33 year old SS unless a team severely overpays or he gets his stroke back from 2007.

Yeah, I suppose. But I didn't know he was so cheap. I think the Phils just end up resigning him just for his glove and okay bat alone. They really don't have anyone in the system that hits for a SS. That Galvis guy is apparently major league ready with the glove, but they don't know about the bat.

same team that committed 125m to howard. their budget might be loosening a bit. maybe ed wade will pay some of his salary...we'll see...

Even if its loosening a bit, aprox. $120 to 9 players is a lot for that team, especially without some key positions.

    2012
    Lidge, Brad: 1.5 Buyout
    Ruiz, Carlos: 3.7
    Polanco, Placido: 6.417
    Victorino, Shane: 9.5
    Blanton, Joe: 10.5
    Utley, Chase: 15.286
    Howard, Ryan: 20
    Halladay, Roy: 20
    Oswalt: 16
    Happ, J.A. : Arb 1
    Zagurski, Mike: Arb 1
    Kendrick, Kyle: Arb 2
    Francisco, Ben: Arb 2
    Hamels, Cole: Arb 4 $15?

Hopefully you guys can read this.

For what its worth, I am hearing Seth Everett said its basically dead. Astros want Dom Brown to pay any salary and he also said the D'Backs interim GM is not trading Haren unless the package is absolutely insane.

    Calling Ben Sheets.

Honestly, if it's not Oswalt or Haren, then I don't care. What I do care about is that they trade Werth - immediately.

Oswalt wants his option picked up to waive his no trade clause. I bet that is a deal breaker.

you had to think the phils would know this though. unless amaro is a bigger idiot than we thought.

i would assume we'd be prepared to do that. all these talks would be a waste of time otherwise

You think they would be willing to commit $38 to Oswalt through 2012? If they want a committment that long they should go after Haren who is less expensive.

Haren isn't getting moved. His contract is a bargain and Ariz's management is in flux.

I might have posted this already...don't remember

    http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.ph ... touchable/

I think the only realistic SPs the phils could get are oswalt, sheets, and Lilly. Carmona's deal is similar to Haren's for cleveland (and I think he blows anyway). Vazquez could be available if the yanks decide to go after werth. Myers is probably not coming back to philly because that would be admitting a mistake. other than that I don't think there's much out there.

Stark was just on 97.5 and said the option is a deal breaker and that it would be a 2 team trade only.39 mill is not that bad for a top pitcher for 2 and a half years imo. 7 mill this year 16 the next two is good for a #1 pitcher. He also said we have the best or highiest rated prospects in A ball and below. RUBEN do it now,and any werth trade would be seperate.

Oswalt is not going to be worth $16 mil in 2012. Look at what I posted above. They will have $102 mil allocated for 9 players.

amaro doesn't pay guys on expected performance, he only takes past performance into account. See howard, ibanez, lidge, blanton, moyer contracts. man, he is a train wreck. he'll probably sign oswalt to a 3 year, $60 million extension after he exercises his option

This will not go over well with some people but:

    Roy Oswalt
    2004: 6.4 WAR
    2005: 6.1 WAR
    2006: 5.7 WAR
    2007: 4.6 WAR
    2008: 3.6 WAR
    2009: 3.1 WAR

Not a good idea to pick up the option.

yeah, man...that's what I was talking about. I used the IP and K/9, but your explanation is better. AIDS

Jeags do you really want him for that much money? He has declined the last 5 years aside from a bounce back year this year

I just want Werth - as Harry would put it - OUUUUUUUTTTTTAAAAA HEEERRRRRE.

I have said it a number of times and I will say it again. One of you fuckers should get Amaro on the phone and tell him to figure out a deal for one of the rays pitchers. Very good pitchers, very young and very cheap. They want werth, phillies want a front line starter. Who cares about myers, these guys are legit pitchers who will probably be good for a long time and will allow the phillies to make other moves. Don't always need the big name. The end. Just tell you gm not to get ass raped

last 5 years...come on. you make it seem like he went from a cy young winner to joe blanton.

his era was right around 3.00 his first 5 or 6 years...i think he had back problems the last couple years or something and his era jumped all the way up to 4.00 last year but he's back around 3.00 now. his only real "down" year was last year--but i think the on going back issue played a role in that. and it appears to be fine now.

for 2 years while we have our core still around, yeah, i would pull the trigger on that. are you overpaying? yeah a little...but i think you're still going to get solid stuff for a couple years. that top 3 puts us right back in the ws mix assuming our lineup remembers how to play baseball again.

All about the big name jeags, too much money in my book, phillies will be fucked in 2012, and like you said he has an injury history. Why are you against younger pitchers that are much less expensive and will give you very similar performance? A big name does not win you shit, look at the yanks, and yes he has been declining for 5 years, injuries or not. This year he bounced back but who knows what thy means. He will not be worth what he is getting paid.

Thanks man. I saw it was there but on my phone right now and don't think I can get it on my phone because of the stupid new format of the forum or whatever. Should be at a computer in a little while. Appreciate it though. Someone I work with tried telling me they would rather have oswalt than him. His baseball opinion is dead to me.

despite the back stuff, he still managed to start around 30 games or so the last couple years and is healthy now with an era around 3.00. yes i'd do this deal.

You would too if your flag was that awesome. I don't even know why the pa flag looks like.

Idk, just seems like you are all for oswalt but wouldn't be for some of the younger guys.

md's is cool....but do you really need to see every 5 miles on i95? and on the ravens jerseys? and at the rest stops? and all around camden yards?

The ny flag is pretty cool. It's just navy with the nys crest bur I like it.

I figured since I mentioned them a few times and you were talking about oswalt.

Yeah, the ravens jerseys are bad, and they are just plain bad jerseys overall but eagles jerseys are on every corner on fishtown and port Richmond too.
  • Cliffy6745Cliffy6745 Posts: 33,710
That is pretty similar to ny

What's the deal solat? We talked about pacquiao- maywheather a while back, right? So pacman will take the tests now and Floyd is being a bitch although it sounds like it's because of his uncles case.

Yep, that was me. Basically Pacman will do the requirements that Mayweather made last year up until 14 days before the fight for random blood testing, but now Mayweather doesn't seem to be in any rush to have the fight. Originally Pacman had said 24 days.

So I guess the ball is in Mayweather's court.

Yeah, that is pretty much what i read. This fight really has to happen. Would definitely be the biggest fight since the Holyfield-tyson fights. Becoming such a disappointment.

Pretty cool stuff with him getting sworn into congress recently. Seems like a good guy, for some reason I didn't like him for a while. Probably all the movies and music I read he was making. Either way, these two have to fight. They will make so much money.

dude, that is hilarious. I went to college down there and I say the same thing. That state is corny as hell. And the drivers down there make the shitty PA drivers look good. Also, all the dudes wear those burkenstock (sp?) sandals and tuck their t-shirts in the front.

needless to say, I couldn't wait to get the hell out of maryland when I graduated.

the inner harbor is cool, but it gets old after a week.
