Your first mistake? Going to a buffet at all. Seriously, think about it. Most buffets are just nasty places. :D

I don't think anyone is telling you that it wasn't "gross", they're just expecting a little bit more understanding and less treating the people at the restaurant like freaks. HLF was not ignorant.

nope we are not ignorant in this situation, why can't you be understanding towards them? i'm sure people in here at some point in their lives came across wide range of people.

and thank god you didn't ask manager to kick them out! jee it was their day out.

Why would you feel bad for them? Were they in pain or being mis-treated in any way?

OK, point taken, but where the hell were the teachers? I think if I take three busloads of behavioral disorder or physically impaired kids to a restaurant I'm going to keep an eye on them, if for no other reason than to make sure they don't burn the shit out of themselves while they're reaching for slices under heat lamps. Keep it moving, kids, and wait until you get to your table to start eating.

Explain what you mean by ignorant. My understanding of the word is lacking knowledge or understanding. I know there are kids with behavioral, emotional and developmental disorders. I understand they don't deserve to be locked away. There was still some gross shit going on there, whether intentional or not.

You might've called me ignorant if I'd started a thread saying an Asian man was eating with his hands and using a piece of bread as a spoon and it grossed me the fuck out... No?

Wait a minute......aren't kids in general just pretty gross anyways?? • This thread is gross.

The kid's were just eating in the most efficient manner available to them. your sensibilities were bruised because you had to see kids eat in a non-sanitary manner? I think the bigger issue is that you stayed because you have a buffet card.

dude, pay a little more and eat somewhere that wont have kids licking the monkey bread...once you saw that they were uncontrollably eating and that it disgusted you, you should have left.

but to stay there- and then post a thread about how it was gross - in a mocking manner well...sorry, but other people's opinions of your personality type can be formed from that...and they can view you as if you are gross.

also - don't know who said it, and too fuckin lazy to check but a buffet full of "obese people and slobs" wow...that is a gem of a statement too...

all perfect people who never shit, drool, or get food stains raise your hands...it's time for your halo fittings.

That's some true shit right there. None of us are perfect. In fact, we're all fucking gross in our own ways. Save your pity and disgust for yourself. Everyone else can cover their own backs.

Well, it probably would have been pretty efficient to drop trousers and take a huge shit on the floor right by the buffet where the kid was standing and eating but it doesn't make it cool. It wasn't my sensibilities that were bruised. It was my gag reflex.

right, and you were NOT bused in, were you? so - YOU could leave the establishment and go somewhere that had a better view.

taking a shit on the floor would be efficient, so maybe you should be happy that none of the kids did that.

    that you are aware of.

now if YOU did that it would be "gross" since once can assume that alongside the societal norms that you adhere to, you have more control over your bodily functions...and you also have the ability to prevent yourself from defecating simply because you need to...you can wait and make it to a more appropriate location...

look - I have no prob with you thinking that the kids were "gross" because of their manner of eating - but posting a thread to vent about it is just mind numbing...seriously, dude - what kind of reaction where you expecting?

A mixed bag of reactions is what I expected and exactly what I got. I thought there would probably be some, "You think that was gross, how about this..." responses. I also knew there would be some people out there who would have to point out that I'm an insensitive lout because I pointed out that there was some gross shit going on at the ol' buffet. Like I said, when I was at the table, I had my head down and it wasn't bad. When I was getting pizza and there were kids -- teens and early 20s to be correct -- with sticky shit on their hands eating with their mouths open, it was a off-putting. I also pointed out I walked there. And why the fuck should I be forced into leaving? Gross is gross whether intentional or unintentional. These weren't teens with cerebral palsy or missing limbs. The majority were BD kids who could play video games, bullshit with each other, and put cash in a jukebox but couldn't figure out to go to the table to eat?

Oh yeah, they're pretty gross on their own. Unfortunately I'm out of groceries and pretty much out of money. I figured I could use my freebie card and fill up for the day.

Went to a Godfather's Pizza buffet today (which is gross enough on its own) and when I got in the place was just slammed busy. Looked out one of the windows and saw three little buses from the Brehm Academy, a special needs school here in Carbondale. Man, what a gross-out cluster fuck. Kids were just standing at the pizza bar hammering down slices. One girl with a mustache was standing right at the corner of the buffet eating pasta and putting pizza slices directly in her dirty hands. Pieces of pizza were all over the floor. Kids were putting Monkey Bread (these little cinnamon balls with icing) into their hands and sucking them down right at the buffet. I don't think I've ever seen more people chewing with their mouths open in one place. Ewwww! I feel bad for some of these kids, but the gross factor was at DEFCON 1. It reminded me of the special table in the high school cafeteria except it was impossible to look away because these guys and gals were everywhere. Luckily they left after about 20 minutes of me being there. BTW, I stuck around because I had a free buffet card and I walked. Yes, I know I suck for being grossed out by kids who have problems.

I have stopped eating at buffets some years back.

But - I work with the developmentally disabled, teaching fitness classes. They do gross things on occasion - some of them drool, have bathroom accidents, and its perfectly okay to tell them to wipe their mouth - I follow the lead of the staff who bring them over in what I tell or don't tell the clients to do. I have one lady who will just pick at her face and cause sores, so we keep reminding her to put her hands down.

I agree with one point the original poster made, which was people with unclean hands handling the buffet food at the buffet. I'm thinking of the clients I work with, and the staff that take them places would not permit that - they'd have everyone sit down and bring them their food. Sure people eat gross (not necessarily the developmentally disabled) and that can't be helped, but it would be the responsibility of accompanying staff members to ensure that normal social rules of cleanliness are respected. It is part of socializing the clients to function in society.

Excellent response. Some of these people are being WAY too high and mighty around here. If you wouldn't be grossed out by the OP's then you are f'n lying. He didn't point and make fun of them or complain or ask them to leave. He was just grossed out and wanted to discuss his experience. Some of you really need to get an f'n life.

And what's so crazy about someone feeling bad for them? They obviously don't know proper restaurant etiquette, whether they had never been taught it or their disability prevents them from acting properly. Either way it's a shame, because I'm sure they aren't meant to be disrespectful to others, they just can't help it.

There is NOTHING right with disrespecting other people in an eating establishment, putting your hands all over the food, throwing it on the floor, etc etc. I don't give a shit if you're special needs, elderly, a baby or a dog. It's gross. Period. You can't blame these kids if they are being unsupervised. Whoever brought them there is responsible, just as if you brought a busload of 5 year olds. You don't let them run amok if they are going to misbehave.

What the OP describes sounds gross, I would look on amazed and so would you, so get off your pedestals you lying s.o.b.'s.
