gotta disagree with 2 points.... Shane has to tag on that play... he makes Upton make a perfect throw and its still a bang bang play... I love that kind of aggressiveness on the base pads... and if that throw is anywhere else, Shane is safe. And Feliz has to play 3rd... just looking at the DP he started.. I don't think Dobbs would make that play....

And lastly, why is Ryan Howard not DH-ing.... his fielding is a horrible liabilty out there.. he made one error and it should of been 2 on the stupid fucking play he makes by not tossing the ball the Hamels in the first.

Believe me - that's understood on my part and is all well and good. But with less than two outs and I'm sorry but Upton doesn't make mistakes on those kind of throws. And if you like aggressiveness then I think you press for runs by getting lefty heavy in your lineup tonight. And if you see the replay on that flub by Howard, it was just as much Hamels' fault - He wasn't getting over there in time. Oh, also, I thought that was a horrible move taking Burrell out of the game. And the only move worst than that was not pinch hitting Dobbs for Bruntlett his second time up when Tampa had a righty come into the game. You could've put Taguchi into the game for defense from there.

If Taguchi was any good in the field, the Phils wouldn't be using an IFer as a defensive replacement in LF. Taguchi's range factor the last few years is worse than Burrell's and he dropped at least a couple fly balls as a defensive replacement this year which prompted Manuel to make Bruntlett Burrell's replacement. I really don't know why Taguchi is on the post season roster.

That said, I hope he hits a pinch double one game and makes me eat my words. ;)

That's my point - if he's taking up a roster spot get him in the game.

My point is he shouldn't be taking up a roster spot. They should have put Greg Golson on the roster instead. Golson is a 22 year old CF with great range and stole 25 bases. He gives you speed off the bench which as we've seen in the post season over the years is a very valuable weapon late in games. I'm not sure what if anything Taguchi adds to the roster.

But he is on the roster so that's the reality of it - everything I've seen/read about Golson is he's definitely fast and a good fielder, but he's been terrible batting.

    That's the move you make...

As for the Howard play at first... Hamels is a step ahead of the runner until Howard starts running towards the base.. then Hamels slows and is still only a half stride behind the runner as they get to the base... That play was Howard's fault from the beginning.. you get the ball out of your glove and allow the pitcher to make the play. He's tried to outrun hitters to first too many time this season and this one bit him in the ass.

You're not really making much of a case for Taguchi here as he's a bad fielder, with no speed and terrible at batting. ;)

I still remember listening to LA make the call when Taguchi got the pinch double to win a game this year and I thought he was about to be censored. He wanted to say "Holy Shit - Taguchi with a double" but caught himself last minute.

I almost drove off the road laughing.

That being said, I'd love for him to do it again, but he has no real purpose on the team.

Oh Jesus Christ - I don't wanna make a case for Taguchi. But he IS on the roster. Man in scoring position with Brunlett up or Dobbs? Righty on the mound. I'd take my chances pinching with Dobbs then putting Taguchi in.

Then leave Dobbs in LF, his range factor is better than Taguchi's. ;)

Dobbs needs to play 1B and Howard needs to DH...but the way he is striking out he's killing us and taking away the DH position...we need someone who can put the ball in play so until Dobbs stops hitting I want him to take as many swings as possible...Coste is rusty...has he hit all post season?

Coste had one at bat before last night.

Manuel said that Howard will not DH this series during his press conference before Game 1.

And Dobbs was an adequate fielder last year in left and right.

    Nah.

How about Geoff Jenkins then in the field instead of Taguchi?

He was Milaukee's LF in 2007 and his range factor was 33% higher than league average.

    Are you KIDDING me?!?!?!

B.J. Upton: His real name is Melvin Emmanuel Upton. Here's a little blurb from his official bio: "B.J.'s nickname stands for Bossman Junior, with his father, Manny, being the original Bossman." Not only did Melvin purposely choose to call himself Bossman, but he made matters worse by going with B.J. for short. That has to go in the Stupid Ideas Hall of Fame.

    Game 2 starting lineups
Here are the lineups for Game 2 of the World Series tonight at Tropicana Field:

    Phillies

    Jimmy Rollins, SS
    Jayson Werth, RF
    Chase Utley, 2B
    Ryan Howard, 1B
    Pat Burrell, LF
    Shane Victorino, CF
    Greg Dobbs, DH
    Pedro Feliz, 3B
    Carlos Ruiz, C
Righthander Brett Myers will pitch for the Phillies.

    Rays

    Akinori Iwamura, 2B
    B.J. Upton, CF
    Carlos Pena, 1B
    Evan Longoria, 3B
    Carl Crawford, LF
    Cliff Floyd, DH
    Dioner Navarro, C
    Rocco Baldelli, RF
    Jason Bartlett, SS
Righthander James Shields will pitch for the Rays.

"I thought about playing Dobbs at third base and DH-ing Matt (Stairs)," Charlie Manuel said. "Matt is 3 for 11 off this guy this year and has hit a home run. He's 3 for 20 in his career. But then I thought about the field. I thought about my defense. I thought about the fact that Feliz did play last night. I know Dobbs hasn't played on turf for more than two years. I wanted Feliz playing third base."
