Great answer never thought of it from that aspect. In that sense the football sense that is the TRUE sense of sportmanship.

Also if the Pats were stopped on 4th down that play alone could revive them back into the game, that's sportsmanship!

    Get the picture now ST.

I wouldn't send somebody in to intentionally hurt Brady. I would, however, blitz the hell out of him even if he did my pick defense apart late in the game. If my team is already down a few touchdowns, which apparently is the situation in which NE's opponents usually find themselves, what's a couple more TDs to drill Brady with an all-out blitz?

If Brady happens to get hurt as he's releasing the ball, well, then, "Shit Bill, I'm real sorry about your QB's leg getting broken. I'm surprised my defense didn't just quit. I mean, you guys were up by seven TDs with six minutes to go..."

Wonder if practicing that play at game speed was worth it?

and i'm damn positive the pats will franchise moss if they don't reach a deal. samuel is gone. he can go get his nate clements-esque deal and play for a very sub .500 team.
look i put myself into the puny football lovin' man brain catergory, because I watch every week, but to deny that the NFL is basically a commercial for celebrating american masculinity and rich people is pretty much just silly.

so wait...i'm not sure on the particulars, but if moss is franchised does that mean no one can take him, or that anyone can with a penalty? i usually know these things, but it's not the offseason so i have forgotten what i read. because if you were the cowboys and only had to give up a first round draft pick, plus pay moss, would you not do it? it makes no sense to take a chance to trade both picks to the pats and get mcfadden, over getting moss for one of those picks and picking up slaton/rice, or someone who can cover anything in the secondary.

Here's how putting the "franchise tag" on a free agent works:

Franchise Player – When a team tags a player as the “franchise player,” that player is limited in his negotiations as a free agent. Depending upon how much a team pays the franchise player, he will be either an “exclusive” franchise player or a “non-exclusive” franchise player. An exclusive franchise player can only negotiate with his old team. A non-exclusive franchise player can negotiate like a restricted free agent. However, in the case the old team does not match the new offer and the non-exclusive franchise player signs with a new team, compensation must be 2 first round draft picks.

thanks solat, and that is 2 draft picks from yourself i'm pretty sure? so it would be the Cowboys 2008 and 2009 then. ok so the cowboys would keep the browns pick which will be 20-ish, and give the pats their (26-32) 2008 and (probably 20-32) 2009 for moss, and use the browns 2008 pick to draft a safety to make up for roy williams OR Steve Slaton/Ray Rice. now work with me here...i understand that there is no way in the world this would happen, but if you were the cowboys why wouldn't you do this? Since Moss has always wanted to play for the Cowboys, unless he just loves Brady (who is republican so I doubt it) and Bellytits (no one loves him they just fear being blacklisted ;)) this is possible though.

To break it down it would look like this:
    Cowboys get:
2008 Browns Draft Pick: Steve Slaton/Ray Rice/Some FS that we haven't heard of yet but becomes a hero in the next month+ prolly someone from USC
    and
    Randy Moss

    Pats get:
2008 49ers Draft Pick: A Sick young LB to make up for the geriatricfest that is their LB core right now
2008 Cowboys Draft Pick: Steve Slaton/Ray Rice to make up for the fact that Lawrence Maroney is a phoney
2009 Cowboys Draft Pick: Another good defender

Essentially what this would do is garauntee that the cowboys and pats would play the next 3 super bowls vs. one another. i'm pretty sure that the kraft/jones crew isn't above collusion so make it happen.
  • Kimo von Oelhoffen, he did a nice job on Palmer and the Bengals haven't been the same since.

Except I think Moss would end up as an exclusive franchise player, so its all a moot point.

Moss will be back with a contract befitting his skills. Stallworth will be the casualty. Stallworth's contract is structured to be very cap friendly this year, like 3 million cap #, and about 9 million cap # for 2008 due to roster bonus etc. Everyone, Stallworth included, said that his contract was gonna end up a 1 year deal when he signed it, and he would likely be cut. The Pats were at the time figuring to then try to re-sign him to a more cap friendly number, but that was before they traded for Moss.
My guess is that Stallworth will be elsewhere next year, The Pats receiving corps will be Moss, Welker and Chad Jackson as starters if Jackson can remain healthy...Moss has taken him under his wing, and he has speed to match Stallworth.
The salary cap will rise at least 7 mil next year, that alone will allow the Pats to pay Moss what he deserves, and Moss absolutely loves playing with Brady and playing for Belichick.

    He does on both counts.
If I can find the audio clip online I'll post it for you, but to illustrate this point...yesterday on the radio, I heard a clip when Moss was asked if the offense could get better...he said it could they had things to work on, and proceeded to say thats why Belichcik rides them every day in practice so they can perform their best on Sunday, and he closed by saying "thats the kind of coach you love to play for".

And he has been quoted many times saying Brady is the best QB in the league and he has always wanted to play with him. He said he was intrigued by the idea of playing with Favre when the rumor was he would be dealt by Oakland to GB, but when he heard NE got involved he told his agent to rework his deal to accomodate the trade just so he could play with Brady.

I'll be very surprised if he is playing elsewhere next season.

Look....I just like to enjoy the sport. I like Sundays with my Patriots. Somethings need to be kept simple.

i told you i enjoy it too, but it would be dumb not to try and understand that NFL football is more than just simple entertainment with no social meaning. Like I wrote before you get bombarded with all sorts of messages throughout that show just how f-d up our society is...to ignore that is to fit into the stereotype of the lazy, underinformed, American.

Didn't hear it, but Golic should be familiar with bounties. He played on an Eagles team coached by Buddy Ryan who used to put bounties on Troy Aikman and other assorted Cowboys.

Also, the best shot for a bounty to be put on Brady is when the Pats play the Ravens. The Ravens D is coached by Buddy's son.

Yes bringing this back to the original poster's sentiment, Golic was VERY familiar with bounties. Admitted that Bounty Bowl I and II were just scratching the surface for what his team did. Even said they had a $200 bounty on Steve Young when they knocked him out of a game back in the 90s. He said that it would be a shock to him if there was NOT a bounty on Brady from every team, probably a growing one as the Pats do better from week to week. A few pages earlier I pegged the Ravens as the team to do it for the exact same reason as you did. I even mentioned that earlier this year Terrell Suggs powerslamed Big Ben well after the play was done, and while Tom Brady is a lot of things, he is not Big Ben's size so that wouldn't be good fo rhim. ..... PLUS Ray Murder has a beef with Adalious Thomas which could get played out through Tom Brady.

i don't get what you mean by this? you think i can't/don't party or am no fun because i try to understand what's going on in the world around me? ok W. not that i could house red wine at the same rate or am a superstar, but do you think it would suck partying with Eddie Vedder, because i'm fairly sure he would have similar views on the NFL? besides, like i said before, someone asked me how the NFL was contrived, and i answered their question.

you could always boycott the nfl if you don't like all the production, commercialism, etc.
