Another much needed win, need a sweep to get some confidence back or a brawl. :)

During my downtime at Mansfield ( in between 1 & 2 ) me and my buddy ( he is a HUGE Red Sawx Fan living here in NYC ) drove over to Boston to go on the Fenway Park Tour.

I know this rivalry is as bitter as any rivalry can be, but you have to give nods to the rich history involved here, and to the old ballpark on Yawkey Way.

We sat in the oldest seats in baseball- old wooden relics that are only 15 inches across. They went into the big fire there, and explained that the only remaining part of the old park- besides these old chairs- was the old brick facade outside, on the little stretch - just across from the team store .

We were able to sit on the Budweiser deck which i was stunned to find out that they have lotteries for 4 ticket tables with waiter service in this area.
    Niiiice !

They took us into the press area- with the big glass windows , looking out onto the entire ballfield. The only non- visible area is up the left ( 3rd ) baseline- to which they have an open window and a television monitor for the official scorer.

The dimensions of this ballpark are extremely odd- a very small infield , which is why they have such high batting avergaes whilst at home .

The tour is fantastic and I would highly recommend it to any baseball fan - regardless of your allegaince to anyy other team- even the biggest rival of the home team .

You will find it fun and interesting to see how - even on their ballpark tour- they cannoty go too long without mentions of the NYYs.

Of course the tour culminated in sitting atop the green monster ( if youre from boston its the " Monstahhh " -- no "R" sound ) . We sat at the lowest row and right at the Left field foul pole. It was cool to sit exactly where we see all the time on TV, and where Bucky Fucking Dent clobbered that homer back in the day !

I recommend this tour to anyone .
    It was awesome .

3 out of 4 would be key. Nice 5th inning for the Sox.

Haven't posted in a while (Bonnaroo then beach and now at the beach again) but the Sox picked up a nice 1-0 win tonight. We need to get rolling so we don't fall further behind the Rays who have looked very very good.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

    Rays - 50 home games - 38 road games
Red Sox - 42 home games - 50 road games

I'm curious what the standings will look like when the Rays and Sox have played the same amount of road games.

  • Plus what happens when that pitching staff takes a beating over a full year.

I think they have what it takes despite my feelings of loathing for them. I'd take Rays and Sox in the playoffs with the Yanks at home.

Just need to fix the bullpen, and Masterson just may be the ticket for that.

I agree, minus the rays in the playoffs.

Rays finish 3rd/4th in east. I dont think its my hatred for them that is saying that either. I really dont like this team, but that aside...its the fact their pitchers are young and i dont think the arms will last. their timely hitting has been so clutch, can they really contine such clutch hitting for a full season? how will they respond to a 5-6 game losing streak? if they contine to play so clutch, I will be impressed. until they have done it for a full season, they are still the fucking devil rays.

they are 16-10 in 1 run games. Impressive, but if your pitching starts to faulter, flip that stat.

The Sox are 1-12 on turf this year. Luckily they only have 9 more games left on it the rest of the way out.

Their last 8 losses have been by a total of 9 runs so they just need one more hit here or there in the game and that problem should be solved soon:

    http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/baseball/red_sox/view/2008_07_08_Ortiz_cuts_in_on_BP:_Injured_DH_looks_good_in_cage/srvc=sports&position=also

I like the Rays and they're playing real good ball now, but let's see where they are in the standings after September 17th. They play 12 of their first 15 games in September against the Sox and the Yanks which is a brutal stretch for any team.

I love daytime baseball when I have the day off. Looks like the Sox just needed some home cooking and a visit by the Twinkies to get going again.

Beckett was shaky all day, but the Sox offense looks to be back - at least for today.

two games back, and they have been without Ortiz and Schilling, and the pen has been shaky. I like the sox chances. I think they can only get better, and they are pretty damn good now.

embarrassing that they are the current champions?
embarrassing they are 1st in the division?
embarrassing your team is a joke?
embarrasing they can spend 100 million + and actually win titles?

im sure they got swept by some bad teams last year, but you know the regular season dont mean shit.

Glad the Sox moved into 1st place at the break. Tampa's momentum has definitely taken a quick downturn. Here's hoping the Sox can keep rolling post-break and the AL takes the All-Star game.

because talking about a team when they don't win is definitely not a Boston thing to do.

    examples:

    Red Sox pre 2004
    Celtics anytime before this year
and Patriots anytime before they won super bowls...

big series on the west coast this weekend. Late nights.

JD Drew for MVP. Papi coming back soon. masterson in the bullpen. Just need Theo to grab one more arm for the pen.
