Woohoo! Glad you got tickets leafs! Sorry you had to miss such a great night of fights. I couldn't believe Houston Alexander got KO'd in 8 seconds.
1st off congrats on the win mookie, awsome picks!!!
I haven't watched the event yet (just turned it on) but i did check the results and although i got my ass kicked, most of the fights i got wrong, i wanted the other guy to win so it's works out anyways.
Sorry for voting against Gray, but i really thought Frankie was going to beat him. I'm a way bigger Manard fan, so this worked out well anyways.
Next, what is this thing that you guys bought tickets for? I'm going to read through the posts while i'm watching the event, but is it something i should be buying tickets for?
edit: HOLY SHIT, HOUSTON GOT HIS ASS BEAT!!!!!
yes, many thanks on passing the torch! i'll bring the belt to montreal! haha
good job on getting tickets as well. i can't believe it's only a couple of weekes away!
oh yeah, great fight night...i can't stop watching it!
lol! Amir falling off the fence was too funny..... smooth, real smooth....
i think the the commentary is hilarious.... sounds like all the things that Rogan and Goldie wish they could say during a fight....
'awww, c'mon now!! that the hell is this???'
after watching it again later, i realized it's the picture in picture that was bugging me. i'm in agreement with you guys. i kind of like hearing the "thoughts" of the coaches.
well wonders never cease.... i just checked the status of my Fight Club shirt, and it's been SHIPPED!!
there's a chance it might show up by the 18th after all!
congrats on finally getting the shirt shipped out, ceg! we may all have our obligatory ufc gear for the show!
reading back in the comments, i forgot to post "needs more cowbell!!!" about the ten second warning. that was strange, eh? i thought we were watching the first ufc in colorado all over again!
just finished watching four of the five pre-lims from the fight night. neer vs. thomas is the only one i haven't seen yet, but the rest were all pretty one-sided affairs. schiavo might have been the exception as he was actually getting the better of the limited striking on the feet against guida (who received a huge ovation when introduced to the crowd!) until guida took him down and the fight was pretty much over at that point.
most impressive win was probably george over roman. roman has some very good ground skills and george absolutely had his way with him there for the entire match. very impressive showing. credit to roman for escaping a coupe of sure submission in the first, though.
i'll upload these later on and send them out to you guys...releash i STILL owe you a gray fight vs. veres! i'll try to remember to do that after these ones.
edit: also, aurelio's submission win was 0:16, not 0:18...;):D
rumour is...#1 contender match between roger huerta and kenny florian at UFC 87 in minnesota...:)
Florian wants Huerta next
Apr 03, 2008
MMAjunkie.com
Kenny Florian (9-3 MMA, 7-2 UFC), who defeated Joe Lauzon in the main event of Wednesday's UFC Fight Night 13, could be next in line for a title shot. However, the 31-year-old fighter has his sites set on another fight with one of the division's biggest stars: Roger Huerta (20-1-1 MMA, 6-0 UFC).
Florian, when speaking to Yahoo! Sports, said he would prefer a fight with Huerta later this year when the subject of a potential title fight was broached.
UFC lightweight champion B.J. Penn and former champ Sean Sherk meet in May at UFC 84, and Florian was considered the most likely candidate to face the winner of that fight.
Florian fought for the title once before and dropped a unanimous decision to then-champ Sherk in October 2006. However, since that loss, Florian has posted four consecutive victories -- all via stoppage and three via submission.
Huerta, meanwhile, has won 16 consecutive fights (with one no-contest) going back to June 2004. The 24-year-old fighter went 5-0 in 2007 and opted to take some time off this year.
Although he's quickly become one of the organization's top stars (with a Sports Illustrated cover to boot), he's been constantly criticized (arguably unfairly) for the level of competition he's faced.
Florian gave no other details for the potential bout, other than saying he'd like it to take place sometime this year.
In the story, Florian also clarified the injuries he hinted at during Wednesday's post-fight interview.
Florian suffered two bulging disks and tears in his back about a month ago.
On Wednesday he said: "I probably shouldn't be here today fighting today. I pushed through some things physically, and I was just lucky to be here in the ring tonight."

apparently we have lost lbc, but i think he plays in other leagues too. close race for second! i'd say we did pretty good for team average on this one. thanks to releash for waiving the maris asterisk.
now to try to carry some luck over into the montreal picks!
ya that fight night was incredible... every fight from start to finish was great. If Montreal can compare to this card, we are in for one hell of an evening.
Huerta/Florian should be pretty good but i'll be taking Huerta in that one for sure.
Oh and finally, Releash, you are coming to montreal all the way from TN? That's insane

Huerta v. Florian would be a great match! I think Florian has a lot of confidence right now, but I think I would still go with Huerta. It would be close though and Florian will be a test for Huerta.
yup leafs, I'm coming up from TN. I couldn't miss GSP beating Serra in Montreal and I get to meet Ceg, mookie and now you. It's only slightly insane.
that's awsome... and nope, it's pretty insane, my buddies can't wait to meet a cheerleader from TN lol.....
ROTFLMAO!!!!
To clarify and not disappoint your buddies, I used to be a cheerleader in college. But with enough drinks in me, I tend to revert so I'm giving you all fair warning..
yeah everyone tells me I'm insane for coming up! But the flight's already booked so I gotta follow through on it.

No it's awsome that you are coming up, it's looking like a great card and you get to meet some new friends, so it should be a great weekend.

just read this on mmanews.com, i wish Joe could make it, but i guess kenny is capable of the job
The following is an excerpt from an article on MMAWeekly.com:
When the Ultimate Fighting Championship debuts in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on April 19, lightweight contender Kenny Florian will be a part of the show, but not as a fighter for this particular event. He will instead join lead commentator Mike Goldberg in the broadcast booth and serve as color man for the pay-per-view.
“I’ll be commentating actually, start to finish, my first, my debut as the co-commentator,” said Florian on MMAWeekly Radio Friday night. “I’ll be there with Goldie. Goldie will be leading the way; he’ll be the quarterback. I’ll be the kind of back up.”
Florian, who helped with the play-by-play of the main event fight between Roger Huerta and Clay Guida last December, will assume the duties of color commentator because regular color man, Joe Rogan, had previous obligations and will be unable to attend.

kenny did a decent job doing commentary for the huerta vs guida match. at least he won't have rogan AND goldberg there asking his opinion of what he would do and "agree or disagree?" over and over...:D
it would have been nice to hear joe's thoughts on the crowd and montreal, though.
Out of curiosity I looked to see if UFC 83 tix were on Ebay. And wow  are they expensive! Some of the 100 level seats are listed for close to $4000. Even the 300 level seats are going for $250 each.
So thanks again to Ceg for getting us awesome seats at a good price. You rock!

Gray Maynard broken hand, out 4 to 6 weeks
MMAmania.com
Gray Maynard is on the shelf for four to six weeks because of a broken hand sustained during his lightweight bout against Frank Edgar at UFC Fight Night 13 at the Broomfield Event Center in Broomfield, Colo., on April 2.
“The Bully” used a distinct size advantage to dominate the undefeated New Jersey native en route to an impressive unanimous decision win.
It’s an achievement that raised the stock significantly for the former contestant on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 5 in the deep 155-pound class. In fact, it’s possible that he will next lock horns with Nate Diaz sometime in 2008.
Diaz submitted Maynard in the semifinals of the 16-man tournament, going on to claim the championship with a technical knockout win over Manny Gamburyan in the finals. Both fighters have shined since their stints in the mixed martial arts reality series.
Let’s hope Gray gets well soon and we see the rematch. If not, Tyson Griffin has been discussed as possible next opponent for Diaz.
