whoa! what a fight! i totally underestimted cristiane coming into this one. i was completely wrong about how i thought this fight would go. wow! cristiane has improved dramatically and is WAY more accurate. what a smart fight and she ended up totally dominating after shayna got tired going for the knee bars in the first. cristiane looked fantastic!
i have seen cristiane's previous four fights and she was wild and sloppy wit her muay thai and just overwhelmed her opponents with her power. man, has she improved tenfold! wow! i can't wait to see gina carano vs. cristiane santos now!

excuse my french, but holy fucking shit, jake choked him with one arm on the mat and held his shorts to finish a guilltine with one arm! that is impressive, especially against a guy like nick thompson. nick is no joke on the ground and a very good fighter. jake proves he's better! wow!
man, this is crazy! great night of fights! already exceeded my expectations.
that is the nick diaz i remember. he looked great. denny is so tough! i have seen many of his fights from KOTC and when he fought GSP in UCC (all these codes! haha) and he has always been a tough fight for anyone, but he was "tougher" tonight than i've ever seen him...if that makes any sense. a lot of guys would have been down early in the first. he kept fighting back!
more action in the second. just like the first fight. back and forth a bit and scott landed some great straight elbows. i was also diggin those upward ones he was throwing in the first round in the clinch. he threw some of those in the first fight as well, but got away from it in the second round there. they got into that final clinch, and once robbie started going to the body and then hit that knee it was the end.
great night of fights! nice to discuss the show with you, comebackboy10. too bad it looks like quite a few of the folks missed a good show.

releash is probably out working her butt off again, but it just dawned on me that shamrock's twin wasn't in this fantasy league round. i wonder if he didn't get his picks on time or if he has opted for free agency? fifth best team in the league...he can't do much better than that! we're going to win those prizes one of these days!
Releash has been working her butt off lately (I wish that literal as well). I've been on call every 3 nights so it seems like all I do is work and sleep. Shamrock's twin was out of town and forgot to get his picks in for the event. I'll make sure he does them for next time.
it's good that people are finally starting to get to see some women's mma and see that they are as entertaining and as skilled, if not more skilled and more entertaining than some of their male counterparts. there just aren't enough women competing yet!
i'll check out keri's muay thai, lbc. i hadn't heard of her before, so thanks for posting that. have heard of erin, of course. can't say i'm a fan, but will agree that she's deadly.

i thought maybe he'd been recruited by one of the top four teams! haha
hoping you get to enjoy some more of the summer sometime soon, releash. that's a LOT of work! :(
looks like tonight's WEC show is ready to go. everyone made weight. doesn't sound like it's on tsn here in canada (they always seem to decide at the last minute), but it will be on versus in the states.

JAMES IRVIN TESTS POSITIVE
Tuesday, July 29, 2008
by Jeff Cain
MMAWeekly.com
Following his UFC Fight Night 14 bout against Anderson Silva on July 19, James Irvin tested positive for banned substances, the Nevada State Athletic Commission confirmed to MMAWeekly today.
Following the loss to Silva, Irvin submitted to a urinalysis, and the urinalysis reflected the presence of Methadone and Oxymorphone.
Oxymorphone is a pain reliever prescribed to alleviate moderate to severe pain. Methadone is most commonly prescribed to recovering heroin addicts or for the management of chronic pain.
None of the fighters who competed on the July 19 card were subject to the NSAC's out-of-competition drug testing policy, which could have been due to the event being put together on relatively short notice.
Eleven of the 22 fighters who competed on the card were tested at the event. Anderson Silva, James Irvin, Hermes Franca, Cain Velasquez, Brandon Vera, CB Dollaway, Tim Credeur, Frankie Edgar, Shannon Gugerty, and Nate Loughran were all tested for steroids, drugs of abuse, and stimulants. Irvin is the only competitor who tested positive for a banned substance.
Irvin has 20 days to formally respond to the NSAC. Previous cases of fighters testing positive for drugs of abuse in Nevada have typically resulted in suspensions of eight or nine months.
