it's GSMF'P Vs. Jon Fitch, bitch!
we've been waiting for this one for a while, and it should be a great title match. lots of potential fight of the night winners here.
could even be a couple of fight of the year candidates as well. huerta vs. florian should be an outstanding lightweight fight with the winner earning a title shot against bj penn.
should be a good bjj match to start the main card between maia and macdonald too. great card, top to bottom in minnesota!

VERY NICE ON CBS
fuckin' eh!!! i'm so excited for this.
hmmmm..... 15 hour drive from Toronto??
ps. ALL MANADOR!!!
i want to win another $800
study your picks wisely
indeed. i can't wait for this one!
i'm hoping we get to see an even better roger huerta this go around, since his move to train at jackson's in new mexico. i think his talent combined with their training and gameplan will pull him through here and get him a title shot! all manador! haha
yeah, this one looks, at least on paper, to be a better representation of what MMA can be. the main event will likely pick up where it left off last time, but otherwise it's good to see a wider variety of skills from the other mixed martial artists on the card. the last time was pretty heavy on the stand up side of things. of course, that turned out to be a lot of fun in the carano vs. young and smith vs. lawler matches.
thanks for any help guys
09/19/05, 05/09/06, 05/10/06
hey ceg, no pressure, eh?!
good luck on winning some more $, NY PJ1.
sounds like fun, leafs. be careful what you ask for, i just may have to delve deep into each match and give you my opinion.
also, if you're looking for fedor fights, all but his last against hong man choi have been posted...and they're free!...so i just wanted to give you the heads up. i remember you saying before that you wanted to check out some of his earlier matches before the affliction show.
oh yeah, i think fitch indeed has a chance. this should be a competitive match. i'll still be going with georges, but it should be one of his toughest fights yet.
please do, like i said, any help will be appreciated
thanks for the heads up about the fedor fights, it's downloading as i type lol.
09/19/05, 05/09/06, 05/10/06
holy share ratio, batman! you made out like a bandit on that one. sweet!
so i gave the afflcition card some thought and i think i'll probabaly be going with the favourites here for the most part. i haven't looked at the odds, but that's what i'm guessing...so for what it's worth...:D
Affliction: Banned, July 19, 2008 - Honda Center, Anaheim, California - PPV
Main Card: (PPV Portion)
Fedor Emelianenko Vs. Tim Sylvia - the big one! fedor has been so inactive in terms of facing HW contenders over the last couple of years that it's difficult to get a read on what he will look like going into this fight. it's a change of venue for tim, as this will be sylvia's first time fighting in a rope for a long time. he had very good take down defense in a cage so it should be even better in a rope. i don't know what fedor's game plan will be here considering he has shown that can be strong wherever the fight goes, but it's obvious tim will want to sprawl and keep it on the feet so that he can take advantage of his reach. i think this might actually be a pretty good match up for tim, especially given that he's been active and has been fighting top HW's (not always winning recently, but still active). questions marks surround fedor's injury problems and his only real test in the past couple of years has been mark hunt. if tim can prevent fedor from getting inside, and especially stay away from letting him get it to the ground, he has a very good chance to win.
hate to do it, but i'm going with sylvia for the upset...either by decision or by preventing the takedowns, establishing his jab and getting a *gasp* tko later in the fight.
Andrei Arlovski Vs. Ben Rothwell - arlovski's boxing and kickbixing is just way too crisp and his takedown defense is phenomenal. i think he'll silence the hype behind rothwell fairly easily if he wants to come out and be aggressive with his hands and kicks. rothwell has 13 wins in a row, but the only one of note is really his last one, a decision win over ricco rodriguez. andrei no longer has to worry about fighting the safe fight with the "have to win to stay in the ufc" cloud hanging over his head, and rothwell might simply be in over his head facing a striker like arlovski.
arlovski by ko in the first.
Josh Barnett Vs. Pedro Rizzo - this one is likely nothing more than an opportunity for barnett to avenge an old loss in the ufc. rizzo has a lot going against him. he cuts easily and hasn't been very active over the last few years, while barnett has only become better and is one of the best HW's in the world. he should be able to win this one wherever he wants to put it. still, rizzo has knockout power and barnett knows that all too well, but that should be well past being in his head.
barnett by tko early in the second, maybe even the first.
Matt Lindland Vs. Fabio Negao - negao is not a fighter i know a lot about, but it seems he can submit and be submitted. only guys like demian maia and rousimar palhares have done it though. lindland has been out for a year, and has been involved in other ventures like running for office and working with his own promotion. could be too many distractions from the fight, maybe? we'll see, but if negao can't get top position and work for a submission, it's a zzzzzzz.....and...
lindland by decision.
Renato Sobral Vs. Mike Whitehead - whitehead hasn't lost since leaving the ufc. 12 wins in a row. other than his win over vernon white, most of those came against opponents with a LOT less experience and some who were holding .500 records or lower. whitehead has never been submitted, but babalu can submit anyone from his back or from the top, and i can see whitehead making a mistake that babalu will capitalize on. whitehead could look to take him down a little bit into the first and ground and pound for a while. he'll probably have some success to start, but it may prove to be his undoing.
babalu by submission, arm bar or choke, in the later part of the second round.
Pre-lims: (FSN / The Fight Network)
Aleksander Emelianenko Vs. Paul Buentello - never bet against a man with a tattoo on his back of a grim reaper holding a baby.
aleksander by ko in the first.
Vitor Belfort Vs. Terry Martin - this one could almost be a coin flip, if only because of martin's punching power. belfort is fighting at 185 for the first time, coming out of his first training camp at extreme couture, and has had about 10 months off. martin has been splitting his time between boxing and mma. lots of question marks here, but there's no question that belfort's best is better than martin's best. the only thing is martin's ability to get the ko...still, belfort looks like he is in great shape right now and should have a good performance after the camp he's put in with shawn tompkins. he presents more weapons standing than does martin, and his speed at 185 should be exceptional. martin could pose a takedown threat to vitor, but not much beyond that if it goes to the ground.
belfort by ko in the first.
Pre-lims: (May Not Be Broadcast)
Antonio Rogerio Nogueira Vs. Edwin Dewees (Vernon White out due to suspension) - this would have been a closer match if lil nog was still facing white. i don't see any area of the fight where nogueira won't have the advantage. he's bigger, a better boxer, and has much better submissions. nogueira with a tko if it stays on the feet or a submission if it goes to the ground.
nogueira by tko in the second.
Mark Hominick Vs. Trenell (Savant) Young - young is coming off the biggest win of his career, a huge upset over lion takeshi in shooto in japan. hominick is one of the better strikers in the FW division and should be able to use his reach here over a shorter young in order to prevent young from getting another upset win. no doubt young will look to take this to the ground as standing up with hominick usually becomes frustrating because his movement is so good. mark has a very good sprawl too, and has really only shown weakness against guys with extremely strong submission games. if he gets confident in his takedown defense, hominick should gradually pick apart young with his hands and either get a tko late or outpoint him for the decision.
hominick by decision.
J.J. Ambrose Vs. Mike Pyle - ambrose is known for his submission wins and is undefeated at 6-0, but he's going up against a guy who is phenomenal on the ground. pyle has faced some very tough competition and has only come up short against a few of them. ambrose hasn't really faced anyone of note yet, certainly no one in pyle's league. i expect pyle to quickly take him down into his "quicksand", put him in very bad position and submit him. in the last pyle match i saw, he completely had his way with his opponent on the ground, and i don't see this one being any different.
pyle by submission in the first.
Patrick Speight Vs. Justin Levens - after starting his career as a promising 7-0 ? prospect, levens is on a five fight losing streak. i know nothing of speight, other than he is a 6-0 fighter who has faced the much lower level of competition between the two. levens with and edge because of experience and training with marco ruas, maybe?!?!
50/50, but may say levens with the tko in the first.
edit: it looks like levens opponent is ray lizama after all. if that's the case, i would lean more towards a levens tko.
09/19/05, 05/09/06, 05/10/06
that's what i was thinking too. i can't see fedor being the underdog, but by the time some money has come in, it may get a little more even. let's hope tim's line is around where you want it in case he can pull off the win. i'll do a fight night write up later, since you enjoyed that one. :D
Fabio Negao +325
Matt Lindland -450
Mike Whitehead +200
Renato Sobral -260
Brett Cooper +250
Mike Pyle -350
Fedor Emelianenko -350
Tim Sylvia +250
Josh Barnett -400
Pedro Rizzo +300
Aleksander Emelianenko -350
Paul Buentello +250
Paul might be a decent gamble to win some money on. I might have to throw $20 bucks on him.
ya that was supposed to be a +200 lol... i'm hoping Tim is underdog
09/19/05, 05/09/06, 05/10/06
if this is true the Tim/Fedor fight will probably be the only one i bet on. If Tim is a +250 when i get there that's a for sure bet. anything else i should be looking at here, i think every favourite will win.
09/19/05, 05/09/06, 05/10/06
really? I don't know anything about him... you think he'd have a chance to beat Aleksander?
09/19/05, 05/09/06, 05/10/06
i'm used to the pro-line odds myself. the +'s and -'s....argh!
UFC Fight Night 14, July 19, 2008 - The Palms, Las Vegas, Nevada - Spike TV
Main Card:
Anderson Silva Vs. James Irvin - a bet on silva here is a waste of a gamble, in my opinion. irvin should be such an underdog that a small bet on him could provide a good return. having said that, silva's muay thai is so much more fluid, accurate and diverse than irvin's. irvin has knockout power in all his weapons, but you don't see him using the kind of combinations silva does. james uses one shot or simple combos, but powerful shots. silva SHOULD see most of what james irvin has to offer coming. irvin, on the other hand could easily get overwhelmed. silva is so confusing with the different types of strikes he throws and the stances and footwork he uses.
irvin has only been knocked out once. silva has never been ko'd or tko'd. irvin has the ability to do it if he gets that one shot in, so who knows? maybe a flying knee to start the match like he did in the second round against terry martin. i'd go so far as to say that irvin is arguably the best striker anderson has faced. not nearly the most well rounded, of course. then, there's also the question of how silva will look at 205 (i'd say just as good ).
just because it would be insanity...
irvin by ko in the middle of the first round.
Brandon Vera Vs. Reese Andy - vera is the other guy moving to 205 here. word is that he looks absolutely phenomenal with his speed and agility. reese is a highly touted fighter from the ifl, but he has a habit of going to decision. he likes the ground and pound. this one doesn't seem to have the decision feeling to it. reese is a strong wrestler, but is the shorter fighter, so i can see brandon really enjoying his reach here and taking advantage of it. he's the much better striker in every way in this match. if he can get into the clinch against the shorter opponent and avoid getting taken down while there, those knees are going to be too much for reese. brandon hasn't had too much luck in the clinch in his last two matches, but those were against sylvia and werdum, both much taller and heavier fighters. still, if reese gets the takedown from the clinch as he said he plans to do, brandon is a decent grappler himself and can get back to his feet well.
vera by tko in the first.
Frankie Edgar Vs. Hermes Franca - there was a match maybe a year and a half ago that hermes took on short notice against jamie varner, another strong wrestler with stand up not on the level of edgar's at the time. varner won the first two rounds with takedowns, but ran out of gas in the third and after taking hermes down one last time, he got caught in an armbar and lost the match. (hermes was also out of gas...)
the reason i mention it is because i think this match will look a lot like that one, only more active. also, i don't see edgar getting warned for running away like varner did after hermes hit him.
i'm really hoping this will be an exciting match, but i think it will be a matter of edgar taking hermes down repeatedly for a round or two, staying pretty active and hermes maybe attempting a few submission from his back. hermes has been out a year, so we'll have to see how his conditioning is in the third, but i've seen franca enough times to know that his heart comes out when his back is against the wall. hermes either being able to avoid the takedown in the third or finally timing a nice knee as edgar shoots should provide and exciting finish to the match. if he can't and it goes to the judges, it will be edgar who comes out on top.
franca by tko in the third round.
Cain Velasquez Vs. Jake O'Brien - velasquez has everything going for him on paper with the exception of experience. he looked a little green at his debut in montreal, but still very overwhelming. he's going up against a better opponent in o'brien this time, but jake is one dimensional. fortunately for cain, he excels in that dimension, wrestling. his stand up is much better too. this fight will take place wherever cain wants it too and he should be able to pound out a tko.
velasquez by tko in the second round, maybe even the first is jake can't weather the storm.
Kevin Burns Vs. Anthony Johnson - burns is coming off the huge upset win over roan carneiro, and by submission, no less. johnson is coming off the big knockout of tommy speer. johnson is a freak of nature at WW. great sprawl, huge reach, with accuracy, speed and power. too much for kevin burns to deal with.
johnson by ko in the first round.
CB Dolloway Vs. Jesse Taylor - we saw these guys on the show, so we know jesse's gameplan and we know what he likes to do. he'll be looking to ground and pound and avoid the submissions. dolloway seems like a very good athlete, so i wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of improvement in his game. i just can't see jesse putting cb in a place in this fight where he would be in a lot of danger. on the other hand, i can see it happening to jesse.
dolloway by submission or tko in the second.
Pre-lims:
Tim Credeur Vs. Cale Yarbrough - again, we all saw both these guys on the show. i wonder how much inprovements they have each made, because from what i recall of cale, he likes to leave arms hanging behind on the ground. if i were making the gameplan for tim for this fight, it would be to open with a flying guard, take a couple of punches on the ground and then grab that arm.
credeur by submission, armbar or triangle, in the first.
Rory Markham Vs. Brodie Farber - markham is another highly regarded fighter from the ifl and he has a couple of quality wins over quality opponents. he looks for the ko, and he's never gone to a decison...so if you can bet on that, do so..:) markham has faced the better competition and having experience in the ifl, he should have another tko win here.
markham by tko late in the first.
Nate Loughran Vs. Johnny Rees - i don't know much about either of these fighters, other than they are both undefeated and both have almost all of their wins by submission. maybe they cancel each other out and it turns out to be a standing affair. i'll wait to make a prediction on fantasy leaugue for this one...but it's a coin flip, it seems. both making their debut...
50/50
James Giboo Vs. Brad Blackburn - blackburn has more experience, another fighter from the ifl. he's definitely faced the better competition, but he's only defeated a few of them. most of giboo's wins are by submission, but it's deceiving because about half of those submission wins were due to strikes. it this wasn't a debut for both of them i would say blackburn by decision, but instead i'll go with him getting the tko.
blackburn by tko late in the second round.
Shannon Gugerty Vs. Dale Hartt - really don't know anything about gugerty, but have heard really good things about hartt. a 5-0 LW with no decisions. just from looking at gurgerty's record, it would seem that he likes the submissions. hartt may be able to keep this standing and get the ko or tko.
hartt by tko in the second round.
Quinton Jackson arrested, facing felony hit-and-run charge in California
MMAjunkie.com Staff
Jul 15, 2008
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson has been arrested and faces multiple felony charges stemming from an alleged hit-and-run and a subsequent police chase in California.
Jackson was arrested today and bail has been set at $25,000, according to a representative from the Costa Mesa Police Department.
"[Jackson] was arrested, he was transported to the Orange County central jail, and he is booked there, and that's where he's at currently," Costa Mesa Police Lieutenant Paul Dondero told MMAjunkie.com.
Jackson allegedly hit multiple cars during a short police chase Tuesday afternoon just after 1 p.m. PT. He eventually pulled over and surrendered to police after traveling from Costa Mesa to Newport Beach in California. No injuries were reported.
"He was arrested for violation of felony evading, hit-and-run and reckless driving," Lt. Dondero said.
Jackson could be in court as early as Thursday.
"He's just been arrested, so nothing's been established," Lt. Dondero said. "If he's released on bail, that's an option. He would be given a court date to appear. If he's kept in custody, then he could go to court as early as maybe Thursday morning."
MMAjunkie.com was unable to reach Jackson's manager, Juanito Ibarra.
A set of photographs taken by a bystander captured Jackson being arrested next to a pick-up truck that bears a large portrait of the fighter. The photographs also showed police officers with their guns drawn while Jackson lie on his stomach in the middle of the road.
Jackson, 30, lost his UFC light-heavyweight title earlier this month at UFC 86. The loss -- his first in more than three years -- snapped a six-fight win streak. The longtime veteran of the now-defunct PRIDE Fighting Championships entered the UFC after the organization purchased -- and disbanded -- the World Fighting Alliance, a Las Vegas-based organization to which Jackson was signed.
MMAjunkie.com will have additional details on this story as they become available.
(Update, 7:57 p.m. ET: A source at the John Wayne Airport in Orange County, Calif. told MMAjunkie.com that Dana White recently de-boarded a private plan. According to Yahoo! Sports, White is there to post bail for Jackson.)

RAMPAGE JACKSON ARRESTED IN CALIFORNIA
Tuesday, July 15, 2008
by Ken Pishna - MMAWeekly.com
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson was arrested Tuesday afternoon at about 1:30 p.m. Pacific Time in Newport Beach, Calif. on suspicion of felony evading, hit-and-run and reckless driving.
According to Lt. Paul Dondero of the Costa Mesa Police Department, “A Costa Mesa traffic officer observed a large pick-up weaving in and out of traffic” with a blown out front left tire. The driver of that pick-up was later identified as Quinton Jackson.
The officer attempted to get the driver to stop, but he did not. Instead, he continued to evade police as he headed southbound on Newport Boulevard. At one point, the driver crossed over a median, “causing pedestrians to flee, going the wrong way on the northbound side of Newport Boulevard,” heading into oncoming traffic.
The chase continued with the driver hitting a parked vehicle, running through red lights, and causing more pedestrians to jump out of the path of the pick-up, one front left tire now disintegrated.
The pursuit eventually came to a halt as the pick-up stopped near 18th Street on the Balboa Peninsula.
After being taken into custody by the Costa Mesa Police Department, Jackson was later transferred to the Orange County Police Department with bail set at $25,000.
Lt. Dondero said that Jackson is also under suspicion from the California Highway Patrol of being involved in two other separate collisions that occurred earlier on the 55 freeway.
There were no charges of drugs or alcohol being involved, according to Lt. Dondero.
UFC president Dana White reportedly has flown to Orange County to post bail for Jackson, according to Kevin Iole and Dave Meltzer of Yahoo! Sports.

He kind of looks fat and out of shape, but he hits hard. I wouldn't get crazy but I might try $20.
Rampage gets a bad Decision loss , and now look what happens.
I love watching Rampage , hopefully he doesn't get made an example of.
