I agree that it's Ben who pulls the strings on the island and I think he has more of an influence back off of the island than he lets on.
What I don't get is why does Ben still have all the resources (recruiting new people etc outside the island) that the original crew had while he killed all of them off? Maybe the freighter / rescue team wants to kill Ben and take the power back?

maybe the outside world doesnt realize they are dead.. if they are still performing the functions of dharma.. they still think they are all alive.. nobody just pops onto the island for a visit ya know?

I mean the ageless one Richard left the island to help recruit Juliet. The others must have some financial connections with deep pockets off the island and I'm betting that Ben is somehow involved.
I think Ben uses the Jacob thing as a cover to keep his people in line, but still has contact with people off the island and only his top people know this. I mean look at his journal from last year:
Someone has to be resupplying the camp and bringing all of the amenities that were in the Other's village.
Also, I think the reason Ben does not want Naomi's boat people contacted is because they are not his allies and pose a threat to his happy world he has created on the island.

It's kind of weird. It's like watching a foreign movie with subtitles except they don't match the dialogue.

i cannot do it! i was looking forward to watching the season finale over again tonight, but the text is, as you said, weird. i keep expecting it to come up with text messages from junior high kids saying hi to each other on national tv...

Just got done watching last season's finale and came away with two things I never thought of:
1.) About how everything is a mirror image. Locke being unable to kill Jack in front of all of the other Losties is a mirror image of Locke being unable to kill Cooper in front of all the Others. And in both cases Ben was yelling at Locke to kill him. (Jack/Cooper)
2.) When Kate says, he'll be wondering where I am when she leaves Jack in the flash forward. I kinda assumed it was Sawyer who doesn't want Kate seeing Jack anymore or another guy, but what if Sawyer really did get Kate pregnant on the island. What if the he she was talking about is really Kate and Sawyer's son? Which would explain why Jack was living alone and not with Kate. Plus Sawyer doesn't seem to be the type to settle down for long or he might have tried to reunite with his daughter and Cassidy and left Kate on her own. Just a theory.

I think the comments was a clever way of getting new viewers up to speed. This combined with the hour special tonight before the new episode re-capping the first 3 years are excellent ways to lure in new viewers. This is an extremely tough show to just pick up in season 4 and start watching.....
