Petey saw the new Cardiologist. The man is amazing, so worth the four hour round trip. Petey's heart has gotten worse over the last four months, but he isn't in heart failure. He is now moderate/severe occult stage. The Cardiology said with out meds he is about six months to a year away from heart failure. With meds we may be able to shrink his enlarging heart and buy him more time. He put Petey on a coctail of four different meds. We will see him again for another Echo-cardiogram and Holter Monitor, to see if the meds are working, if not he will add a stronger med, the big gun of DCM. I feel good now to have a competent doctor on our side, the other two were waiting for heart failure to treat Petey with meds, this guy does it while there is still quality time left. Petey and I were in the examining room for two hours, the doctor spent at least an hour talking to me about the disease and expectations. He didn't think the stem cells were right for us for now, but will revisit that option three months from now. He told me about the people doing it, they are out of options, dogs are in the latter stages. I still feel very sad, trying so hard to get back to the happy place I was on December 9th, right before I opened the Email containing his test results. My world has been turned upside down since. Continued prayers, good vibes, positive energy that these meds kick in and his heart stops enlarging. He could get a couple of years of quality life if that happens. I would be grateful for every month we get together.

Here is my beautiful boy at the Cardiologists examination room. Petey was AWESOME, he laid on the table and didn't move at all. I love this boy, he makes me so proud. He is my best buddy.

So glad you found a specialist you're happy with. Petey is just gorgeous. That's some set of ears he's got going on! Just take it one day at a time with him. I think that's what the dogs do. They don't look back or ahead, just in the moment. Lots of good wishes to you for success with the medication regimen.

They do lose baby teeth!!!! I don't have a dog (am I still allowed on this thread :? ) but my friend was really surprised and worried when she found a tooth in her puppy's bed! She called the vet (who probably rolled his eyes!) who explained what happened.

For the same reason men have nipples? Biological reason, not sexual stimulation!!! Then again, what do I know about things that turn a dog on.....

Yep... we'd find teeth everywhere once he started losing them. It was fun when he lost the crazy sharp ones because they hurt like a mofo when he'd bite me when playing. :D

Petey looks like he's wondering why he's in a room and not being served steak... :)

That's good news that you have a doctor you can trust. As cliche as it sounds, it makes all the difference when you feel comfortable with a doctor and the plan they set for everything.

Always positive vibes for Petey -- I hope things start turning around with the new medications!

This is a dog that clearly does not know I'm going to PJ shows the next few weeks and that he's going to be boarded for the first, second and third time ever in the next month. :(

We're boarding him at a place where a mom&daughter run it out of a house so they have free roam all day and are not crated at night. I hope he likes it - we used to use our parents but they moved so that's out now. Luckily the first two are just overnighters so we don't leave him alone for 12 hours for STL and Indy, but the third is for the MSG shows. Poor Chops!

    awwww....i hear that!
i'm sure he'll be fine, but yea, such a tough decision, you always feel guilty. but, don't. sounds like a good place. my current doggies have never been boarded, but someday, it'll happen. right now if mr. dream and i both go away, thankfully my mom just stays over at our house with the doggies. they love it, she loves it. however, mom is 82, so don't know how much longer we can use her dog-sitting services. :|

Yes that was our old plan - either my mom or dad would come out and stay with us while we were gone and then stay for a while after we got back to visit (and while we were gone they'd visit my sister who is out here too).
Unfortunately medical issues are going to prevent that this time...

The sad thing is that I wouldnt even worry about it except he has one 'bum' leg from a knee injury about 4.5 years ago. He's been fine ever since except for one small weird thing, but of course I watch every step/jump/run like a hawk! So its weird knowing he'll be running around and playing when I'm not there to keep him in line and make sure he doesnt do anything stupid!!!

Don't get me started on them! Another nest popped up this weekend- and we keep the grass short to try to deter them from going there.

One funny thing is that last year when we had a nest in the yard I would let him out front sometimes to avoid having to run around with him... one time it was like 1AM and I let him out and he was face to face with a skunk. Luckily he knew better and went his own way... I just saw this little white stripe streak through the yard and Chops' white paws/chest... stomach dropped/heart stopped. No harm though - I bet they would be best friends if they could combine their powers together. :)

It's always sadder than I'd think it would be. It happens a LOT here because there are like 4 homes that have dogs that will go after them pls the obvious other reasons that happen anywhere. I always feel horrible when I have to move one out. I guess its only 2-3 times a year, but it sucks every time.

I saw a bunny get hit by a car once and my mom and i were so shocked she actually stopped the car on the middle of the road and we just sat there like this
Good thing it was late at night there wasn't much traffic out but it was really said i actually was yelling "stop!!!" in the car, but obviously that other driver couldn't hear me...
