  • tonight is the return of Aaron Ward (Jeez, I hope he goes into the Hall of Fame as a Ranger). It also looks like a tired team since the plane landed in Westchester late this morning (at least it wasn't a commerical flight). Anyone showing up tonight, I'll be there, you know the spot.

interestingly enough, in my most recent blueshirt bulletin, they had a nice piece on him at home.
They guy from the paper stayed with him for like 24 straight hours- lots of time and covergae of him at home with the wifey and the kids ( photos too ). It look like he really thought he'd be here for a while,...

decent guy alltogether, too bad it didnt work out with him and NYC .

oh and i wish hium another dreadful game tonight at The Garden .

    wow
    what a game
so much to cover here, ..

    http://espn-i.starwave.com/media/apphoto/40cb8c3c-709c-402c-a456-c4055211b1d1.jpg

Callahan gets his first & second goals , a fighting major , and hits anything that moves !  Tis guy will be around for a while.

    http://espn-i.starwave.com/media/apphoto/8a1d806e-1b89-486a-91e4-22d5660e6794.jpg

these guys looked lost. too bad we cant play them the rest of the way, we just might clinch the 4th or 5th spot in the east,..

    http://espn-i.starwave.com/media/apphoto/a492f5b2-0308-42f4-b5e3-d76223ebe71b.jpg

5 different goal scorers , - and none of them was Jagr.
Things that make you go "Hmmmmm"....

King Henrik back atop his throne- that guy is getting better and better with each game,.. gotta have one of the lowest GAAs up to this date- Simply amazing play . It boggles my mind when he goes and throws his stick into the cxrowd- wonder they dont tell him to stop doing that- somebody is eventually going to sue MSG/ NYR for getting injured from this !
Amazing that Giacommin holds that record of 4 straight 30 win seasons- i believe that Henrik can match or even break that record so long as he stays healthy.

I cannot believe that another Blueshirt went down, in what appears to be yet another knee injury-- and ouch that split looked very uncomfortable

this quote from the bruins head coach says it all:
"I am embarrassed for anyone who has ever gone to a Bruins game and has a Bruins jersey at home because this is not what the Bruins stand for," Lewis said of Saturday's performance. "It is totally embarrassing.”

    interesting-
heres how we fared so far this season against the birds :

    10/12/06.....PIT 6-5
    11/18/06.....PIT 3-1
    11/25/06.....NYR 2-1 (OT)
    12/7/06.......NYR 3-2 (SO)
    3/1/07.........PIT 4-3 (SO)
    3/10/07.......PIT 3-2 (OT)

now another OT/ Shootout for the Pens ?

now im wondering , aside from with us, how many games has pitts won by 1 goal ?
how many shootouts , and how many OTs ?

I may be the minority here, but i more then welcome them in the first round ( no more shootouts ) , and i'd run with Lundqvist rather then Marc Andre Fleury.

During the Pens game last night, I think they said they were 21-17 in 1-goal games.

As a Pens fan I'd actually rather them play the Rangers (sorry) because I think they match up way better then they do against the Sens, even though the games have all been close. Pittsburgh's style suits them for overtime and even though they've won a lot of games in the shootout lately, I believe that they still would've won the vast majority of them in playoff-style overtime. But I think a Pens-Rangers matchup is unlikely, as a lot of things need to go right for both teams for that to happen.

New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has signed defenseman Jason Strudwick.

Strudwick, 31, appeared in 34 games with HC Lugano of the Swiss-A League this season, registering two goals and three assists, along with 28 penalty minutes. He also collected four penalty minutes in six postseason contests with the Swiss club.

Last season, Strudwick skated in 65 games with the Rangers, tallying three goals and four assists for seven points, along with 66 penalty minutes. His three goals and seven points established career-highs, while his 15:31 of ice time also set a career-mark.

The 6-foot-4, 225-pound defenseman has appeared in 428 career NHL games with the Chicago Blackhawks, New York Islanders, Vancouver Canucks, and Rangers, registering a total of 10 goals and 26 assists for 36 points, along with 636 penalty minutes.

A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Strudwick was originally drafted by the Islanders as the team's third round selection, 63rd overall, in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft. He was acquired by Vancouver on March 23, 1998 in exchange for Gino Odjick. Strudwick signed as a free agent with Chicago on July 15, 2002. After the 2003-04 season, he signed with the Rangers as a free agent on July 20, 2004.

    What's the deal with Datsyuk?
Mar 19 - Pavel Datsyuk's agent, according to the Detroit Free Press, will talk with Red Wings GM Ken Holland before the end of March, when he returns from Russia.
That doesn't leave much time to hammer out a contract extension because Holland has set a tentative cutoff date of April 1 for contract talks, unless a deal is near completion, the Free Press reports.

Gary Greenstin, Datsyuk's agent, has been asking for $7M per year, but the Red Wings can't go higher than $6M per year, according to the Free Press.

Datsyuk, who will make $3.9M this season, can become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Datsyuk was asked Friday about an Internet rumor about plans to sign with the Capitals this summer to play alongside Alexander Ovechkin. Datsyuk "laughed off" the suggestion, according to The Detroit News.

    Kimmo Timonen?
Scott Hartnell? Edmonton heads to free agent mall
Mar 19 - It's no secret the Oilers will have plenty of money to spend on free agents this summer. It remains to be seen whether the team can lure the types of players it needs to Edmonton, which has historically been a less than ideal destination.
Lack of a puck-moving defenseman and a winger who can score led to Edmonton's downfall from Cup finalists to missing the playoffs, and the Edmonton Journal says those two will be targeted by Oilers GM Kevin Lowe by trade or free agency.

Lowe joked to the Journal that Edmonton's braintrust will be better focused on the offseason plan without the playoffs to cause a distraction.

"We're going to have more time to do it," Lowe told the Journal.

"Our payroll is going to go up, at least $43 million, maybe higher [up from this year's $40 million]. We're keeping an eye on all aspects, not just free agents. Trades, too ... but you really can't assess things fully until you see what teams are doing in the playoffs. Which ones have success? Which ones don't? Which teams that loaded up for the playoffs, what are they going to do with their payroll? Are they going to move some players?

"Clearly we have room in terms of our [owners'] commitment [to spend more money]."

Prospective free-agent defense candidates listed, in order of preference, by the Journal include Nashville's Kimmo Timonen, Montreal's Andrei Markov, New Jersey's Brian Rafalski, Calgary's Roman Hamrlik and Ottawa's Tom Preissing.

The market appears to be thin on quality wingers, but Nashville's gritty Scott Hartnell is appealing to the Journal because he's from Lloydminster, Alberta.

Mar 19 - The Detroit News says F Kyle Calder has impressed the Red Wings since he was obtained from the Flyers before the trade deadline, scoring two goals, 10 points and a plus-7 rating in nine games with Detroit.
But how much will his nine goals, 21 points and minus-31 in 59 games with Philadelphia play in contract negotiations when he becomes an unrestricted free agent July 1?

The News speculates that Calder will need to take a pay cut from the $2.9 million he's making this season if he wants to stay in Detroit.

    Daniel Briere? Blackhawks maneuvering
Mar 19 - Big-name free-agent forwards should expect enticing calls from the Blackhawks this summer, according to the Ottawa Sun.
Unless Blackhawks GM Dale Tallon finds what he needs through trades before July 1, the Sun speculates Chicago might try to land Sabres C Daniel Briere and/or Islanders LW Ryan Smyth.

Next season will be Tallon's third as an NHL GM, and the Sun said if the Blackhawks aren't in playoff position early, he could be fired by Christmas.

    Jim Playfair
    Flames More pressure on Playfair
Mar 19 - Even though Flames GM Darryl Sutter has stated his plans to stick with rookie head coach Jim Playfair, Calgary's struggles haven't stopped many for calling for a change behind the bench before the playoffs.
Colorado has closed to within four points of Calgary, and Playfair told the Calgary Sun that his message is still getting through and numerous players voiced suppport for the coach, including C Craig Conroy.

"I definitely don't think it's a coaching situation. The way we prepare, the way we do things, it's the execution on the ice when we make those mistakes," Conroy told the Sun.

"I think everybody's behind Jimmy. That's not an issue. It's the guys in that room, we've got to do it."

Flames D Rhett Warrener told the Sun the problem isn't coaching or dissension in the dressing room.

"If we play the way we're capable, we should be OK," Warrener told the Sun. "If we don't make the playoffs, then the sky's falling."

Mar 16 - Back-to-back losses to Detroit that dropped Nashville out of first place in the Western Conference have complicated the Predators' goalie picture.
Neither Tomas Vokoun nor Chris Mason seized a chance to take over starting duties, according to the National Post, so Predators coach Barry Trotz said the duo might split the job in the playoffs.

    Pittsburgh Penguins Penguins purse strings
Mar 16 - Now that plans are secure for a new arena, the Pittsburgh Penguins appear ready to spend a little more in the offseason.
Part-owner Mario Lemieux said this week that payroll will rise, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

But the paper warned against any free spending that will push the team dangerously close to the cap in one and two years' time, when the Penguins have to renegotiate deals with some of their young stars.

Contracts for center Sidney Crosby and goalie Marc-Andre Fleury will expire after next season and forwards Evgeni Malkin and Jordan Staal will need new deals a year after that.

    Taylor Pyatt
Canucks Canucks ask more from Pyatt
Mar 16 - Canucks coach Alain Vigneault has removed RW Taylor Pyatt from the second power-play unit and replaced him with grinder Jeff Cowan, according to The Province newspaper.
"For some reason, Pyatt's game has slipped and not just in his execution but in his physical implications, whereas Jeff's game has picked up," Vigneault told The Province.

"Our power play right now is not performing and we're going to try Jeff there. He's been our hottest player and Pyatt has not played to his potential."

Later Thursday night against the Blues, Pyatt was also dropped down to the Canucks' fourth line from the No. 1 unit with the Sedin twins.

"I've got to create more scoring chances and maybe be more physical and get into those dirty areas and try to get around the net as much as possible," Pyatt, who has career highs with 18 goals and 30 points, told The Province on Wednesday.

"I haven't created the chances that I have in the past and I have to keep working at it, stay confident and be better [tonight]. I've got to get back to that and get a little bit more jump in my game."

    Todd Bertuzzi
Red Wings Wings hopeful for Bertuzzi to play
Mar 15 - Although F Todd Bertuzzi won't join the Red Wings on their two-game road trip that begins Saturday in Vancouver, the newly acquired forward is closer to playing his first game for Detroit, the Detroit Free Press reports.
"He'll definitely play somewhere during that home stand," Wings GM Ken Holland told the Free Press about a three-game stretch that begins March 22 against Columbus.

While the Wings are on the road until Tuesday's game in Calgary, Bertuzzi will be practicing with the club's AHL affiliate in Grand Rapids, Mich, according to the Free Press.

Bertuzzi, who was acquired from Florida just before the Feb. 27 trade deadline, is still recovering from back surgery and has played just seven games this season.

If Bertuzzi remains on target for a return during Detroit's next homestand, he could play seven to nine games before the playoffs start.
