Wolf Pack Sign Chris Ferraro to PTO
Press Release
Hartford Wolf Pack general manager/head coach Jim Schoenfeld announced that the team has signed forward Chris Ferraro to a professional tryout (PTO) agreement, effective Friday, November 17th.
A veteran of 12 years of professional hockey, Ferraro played last season in Germany, skating in 42 games for DEG Metro Stars Dusseldorf and amassing six goals and 22 assists for 28 points, along with 134 penalty minutes. The 33-year-old Ferraro’s last North American pro stint was with the AHL’s Syracuse Crunch in 2004-05, during which he played in 24 games and notched seven goals and seven assists for 14 points and spent 50 minutes in the penalty box.
Originally drafted, along with identical twin brother Peter, by the New York Rangers in the 1992 NHL Draft (fourth round, 85th overall), Ferraro has played in 74 NHL games during his career (7-9-16, 57 PIM), 14 of those with the Rangers (2-1-3, six PIM). The Port Jefferson, NY native has also seen NHL time with Pittsburgh, Edmonton, the New York Islanders and Washington. In 457 career AHL contests with Binghamton, Hamilton, Providence, Albany, Portland, Springfield and Syracuse, Ferraro has totaled 176 goals and 261 assists for 437 points, along with 901 minutes in penalties. While with Portland in 2002-03, he was the co-winner (with Manchester’s Eric Healey) of the league’s Fred T. Hunt Memorial Award, for sportsmanship, determination and dedication to hockey.
The 5-8, 175-pounder spent most of the first three seasons of his pro career (1994-97) in the Ranger organization, before being claimed on waivers by Pittsburgh prior to the 1997-98 campaign. Ferraro enjoyed his best season as a pro in 1995-96 with the Binghamton Rangers of the AHL, leading the team in assists (67) and finishing fourth overall in the league in that category. He also ranked second to brother Peter in team points that season with 99, and that was good for sixth in the AHL.
The Wolf Pack return to action this Wednesday, November 22nd, as they kick off the Thanksgiving long weekend with their first look at the new Worcester Sharks (7:00). The Pack will then head to Providence on Friday for a match-up with the Bruins (7:05), followed by the fourth installment of the 06-07 GEICO Connecticut Cup at home against Bridgeport on Saturday (7:00) and a road trip to Worcester to rematch with the Sharks on Sunday (4:00).
Individual tickets for Wolf Pack games are on sale now at the Hartford Civic Center Box Office and all Ticketmaster locations, including Macy’s at the Buckland Hills Mall and at the Westfarms Mall. Tickets may also be charged by phone at (860) 525-4500, (203) 744-8100, (203) 624-0033 or (413) 733-2500 or online at http://www.Ticketmaster.com. Season tickets, five, 10 and 20 game packages and group tickets are now available. Contact 860-548-2000 for more details.
These twins first came up with the NYR organisation . Now, twin brother Peter is playing for the Islanders. How about that ? Imagine brothers facing each other in that rivalry ?
thats crazy !
After tonight, we have to wait till Saturday for the next game- lets hope we can skate away with 2 regulation points.

again- i'll make mention that Versus coverage is just horrible , including Brian Engbloms way-outdated-mullet.
that is all.....
I missed the game, too busy going out on a date! But I managed to check the score on my cellphone while she was in the bathroom and was shocked to see it was 4-0. Way to go!
Also pissed it was on Vs., as I was looking forward to watching it on Rangers in 60. Oh well. Next time.
ORTMEYER FULLY RECOVERED FROM PULMONARY EMBOLISM
11/21/2006
Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that right wing Jed Ortmeyer has been cleared to start non-contact practice.
Extensive medical testing has shown that Ortmeyer has fully recovered from a pulmonary embolism that was diagnosed on August 13, 2006.
Ortmeyer, 28, skated in 78 games with the Rangers during the 2005-06 season, registering five goals and two assists, along with 38 penalty minutes. He ranked first among team forwards and seventh among all NHL forwards with 75 blocked shots.
what they dont tell us is that his his second or third PE .
I hope he makes it back okay, with no further complications.
When he finally makes it back up to the big club , i believe he will instantly impact the team- he is a high energy guy .

Yeah, thanks! I may miss tonight's game as well if I go out with the girl again. I don't know, may not be such a bad thing, I miss a game, they win! Although what a game last night. With 2.2 seconds left, Straka buries the puck after a brilliant defensive move and rush up ice. Fantastic. Hope the momentum carries into tonight against the Sabres, and definitely into Tuesday against Atlanta. Not only will I be at the game, but its my birthday, so they have to win on my birthday!
nice game- finally snapping a 3 game losing streak against the Penguins. Plus, no Sid Crosby out there.
we have been taking some really ridiculous penalties lately, and offering up way too many 5-on-3 s let alone 5-on-4s .
we were very lucky they didnt capitalize on all of those.

the f'n refs put the whistles in their pockets if it involved a NYR powerplay- thats for sure.
Cullen, Straka both get intefered with and our Ace Jagr gets pulled down by the pants and tackled- but consistantly
no whistles.
And once again, even tho a crazy deflection wins it in front , is it just coincidence that Ozolinsh is his as usual self skating around in front of Henrik- nowhere even close to any white jersey whatsoever.
and again shorthanded way way too much .
again, only 1 point to buffalo , but why cant we get 2 regulation points against them. Next week is already the final meeting of these 2 teams- another scheduling blunder.

SHANAHAN BLOWS WHISTLE ON REFS
By LARRY BROOKS
BRENDAN SHANAHAN
Screaming mad.November 27, 2006 -- The Rangers were shorthanded 10 times for 16:22, but it wasn't any particular call against the Blueshirts that sent Brendan Shanahan off the Garden ice in a rage last night, but rather the interference call that was not made against the Sabres when the winger was picked by Jason Pominville on the Buffalo game-winner at 1:36 of overtime.
"Shame on me for staying on my feet," Shanahan, who needed 15 minutes to compose himself before meeting with the press, said facetiously after the Rangers' 3-2 defeat. "But what do I know?"
Shanahan knows enough to be considered the NHL's most influential player regarding the post-lockout change in rules interpretations. He sits on the competition committee. He thinks before he speaks. This is why his indictment of referees Gord Dwyer and Mike Leggo is sure to receive careful consideration when it reaches the ears of the NHL hierarchy,
Someone asked Shanahan whether he had received an explanation after the final non-call helped Chris Drury get the winner on a deflection. Shanahan, who left the ice screaming at Leggo, chose his words purposefully.
"The guys tonight were a little bit above giving explanations," said No. 14. "Instead, they made a face like they ate a lemon and [gave] a wave of the hand.
"The league has done so much the last few years to eliminate the old mentality of [referees] not talking to players and waving players away. It's kind of disappointing that with the improvement in communication under [director of officiating] Stephen Walkom, that I didn't feel that way tonight."
The officiating was laughable last night, but the Rangers committed enough blunders on their own in falling behind 2-0 before Martin Straka - brilliant game in and game out - scored twice to pull his team into overtime that they might want to take a glance into their mirrors, too.
The Blueshirts turned the puck over repeatedly against a fast, puck-hunting team that is setting the bar in the East with a 19-3-2 record. They were shorthanded twice five-on-three for the second straight night. They failed on an extended five-on-three of their own for the second straight night. If not for Henrik Lundqvist's marvelous game, Shanahan never would have had the opportunity to leave the ice steaming at the officials.
"We cannot be shorthanded five-on-three the way we have been," said Jaromir Jagr. "To kill a five-on-four is OK, but we cannot take penalties when we are on the PK.
"We're slashing. We're high-sticking. These are mistakes that we can't have. They're going to kill us."
The Rangers have scored 18 goals in their last eight games. Seventeen of them have been scored by Straka, Jagr, Shanahan and Michael Nylander. Petr Prucha, who hasn't scored in his last eight games, was benched for shifts in both the second and third after inopportune giveaways.
The power play, 0-for-5 last night, is 0-for-15 in the last three games, 2-for-25 in the last five and 3-for-32 in the last seven. The five-on-three is an embarrassing 3-for-18 on the season.
"We don't practice it at all," said Jagr. "We're panicking."
The Rangers didn't panic last night. But they didn't take any steps forward, either.
"I thought we had the momentum, but when we scored the [second] goal we stopped playing," said Jagr. "When good teams get the momentum they go for it.

true enough- bad numbers and all- but really ;
its hard for our # 1 PP line to get out there and perform , especially when they are all trying desperately to catch their breath after defending multiple shorthanded situations, some of which were 2 men short .
way way too many undisciplined penalties and lackadaisical defense ( ie : Sandis Ozolinsch - please go far far away- for good ! ) & bring back kaspar already !

that's a good point, but the players on the top PP line are not the same on the PK line for the most part.

The Rangers skated with the high-flying Sabres last night and came back from a two-goal deficit, as Buffalo did here three weeks ago, to force overtime. Yes, they committed a pair of gaffes (by Matt Cullen and Sandis Ozolinsh) in handing the Sabres their two goals, both essentially power play goals (although only one was officially), and Henrik Lundqvist was herculean in net, especially during the Sabres' ten power plays. But with Martin Straka continuing his stellar play, his second goal of the game tying things up late in the third period, the Rangers went toe to toe with their 18-3-2 opponent and came out even after 60 minutes.
But it's hard enough to have to face a team that good -- to have to face them on a second straight night of horrendous officiating that mostly went in their favor proved to be impossible. The litany of officiating errors in this game was legion, and all but one or two were by Mike Leggo, the referee who didn't see Cullen's goal the night before in Pittsburgh and failed to allow sufficient time for video review to correct his oversight (he had a different partner last night).
Leggo's errors in this game actually began with a bad call against Buffalo -- the double minor to Chris Drury for bloodying Adam Hall's nose with his stick was on the followthrough of playing a puck, which is not supposed to be a penalty. Leggo, as you an see from the replay, could not see the original impact through several bodies and made a late call only when he saw Hall on the ice.
The three calls that gave Buffalo a five on three for two minutes were all made by Leggo, and they were all correct (although he allowed Jason Ward to be crosschecked from behind when he cleared the puck over the glass for a delay of game call), but from there on everything went against the Rangers -- actually, some calls had already gone against the Rangers when Maxim Afinogenov was allowed to pick off Straka in his end of the ice and then get a call on Petr Prucha on a dive at the other end of the ice.
The absolute worst was when Jaromir Jagr was tackled right in front of Leggo, with no possible excuse for not seeing the penalty (which was actually the second against Jagr on the play after earlier obstruction). But it was not all -- Matt Cullen was tripped in Leggo's end of the ice with no call, even though the other referee had a line of sight as well; Straka was tripped on a possible breakaway with no call by the other referee; and Brendan Shanahan was obstructed off the deciding face-off as he tried to get to the point to defend against the shot that Drury deflected home for the game winner.
Shanahan, the player who drove the adoption of the new standards of rules enforcement during the lockout credited with opening the game up and making it more exciting, was livid afterwards. "When the Buffalo player basically quits on the play, takes a step toward the penalty box," he said of the trip on Cullen, "that's an indication they missed one with two and a half minutes to go."
Asked what he can do about it, Shanahan seemed to say that there was nothing he could do, but his words were a demand for discipline. "The referees have their own form of discipline, assessment, process," he said. "We get assessed as players, they have an assessment situation as well." After his work this weekend with the Rangers, Leggo's future as a referee should be clear -- but the NHL will not have the guts to do anything about it.
Adding insult to injury, Shanahan said the referees gave him the cold shoulder when he asked for explanations. "I think that's something that the refs have been a lot better at in the last year or so, is giving an explanation," he said. "Sometimes a simple explanation is, 'I missed that.' But the guys tonight were a little too..." and here he hesitatated for a moment searching for the right words before saying, "above that -- to even so much as give an explanation. It was mostly just a face like you just ate a lemon and a wave of a hand. They were a little bit beyond explanation. The league has done much better in the last few years. The old mentality of don't talk to a player, don't explain a call to a player, and wave a player away has kind of disappeared since Stephen Walkom has come on board. Communication as a group tonight, for whatever reason, they didn't want to do that."
Coach Tom Renney was equally angry. He focused on the non-call on the deciding goal. "At the beginning of the year at training camp, we all get sent video on what certain calls are and how they're going to be called," he said. "There was a call in overtime that was absolutely without question the best footage you can have for faceoff interference, period." He too was miffed at the attitude of the referees, not sure "if it's because they don't have an answer or they do feel they're beyond an explanation. The one I did get tonight was, 'There was someone in front of me and I didn't see the trip.' But I've seen two arms go up from officials many times -- it's interesting that two guys can miss it. I think we probably deserved more responsible, professional work by others on the [score] sheet" -- i.e., the refs.
"It would be easy to jump on that and say yeah," Renney responded when asked if he felt there was a pattern of calls going against the Rangers. "I'd have to say so tonight, probably. Whether or not I can judge if we've had the short end of the stick, I probably shouldn't comment because I'd be guessing and I'm not in the right frame of mind to be answering something like that."
Ozolinsh heard his first boos of the season after his turnover in front of his own net off a lazy errant pass led to the Sabres' second goal, and the boos persisted after that. He has commented on his adjustment to the "no-go" mandate he has been given this season after a career as a "go" with the play defenseman, which makes us wonder: last season, Tom Poti was reined in the same way, and he came through with his best defensive effort as a Ranger, but without any of his trademark offensive contribution. Ozolinsh isn't even playing good defense under the same circumstance -- in the past six games, he has been on the ice for five of the ten goals the Rangers have allowed but only three of the fourteen they have scored, continuing an alarming pattern since his return to action.
Meanwhile, Marek Malik was booed last night even when his name was announced for each of his two assists. Malik actually had a great game -- on the Sabres' five on three, he blocked nearly half the shots (three of seven) that the Sabres attempted, and he was even credited for two hits, as he used his big body for a change, especially in front of the Ranger net during penalty kills.
Both Marcel Hossa and Adam Hall had apparent open net goals at their disposal during the game, but both were thwarted by great stick saves by the Sabres, Hossa by a last second deflection by Dmitri Kalinin, Hall by a great stop at the goal line by Ryan Miller.

I am definitely psyched for tonights game, since I'll be there, and its my birthday! The big 2-8 on the 28th, fitting. A co-worker of mine has a friend that used to work for MSG, and that friends boyfriend is in charge of some facet of in game entertainment, like the Garden Vision, so I'll be getting a birthday message thrown up there. She also needed to know exactly where I was sitting, down to the section, seat and row number. I'm really curious why and my co-worker is playing dumb. Anyway... thought I'd share...

LETS GO RANGERS!!!
we have been taking some really ridiculous penalties lately, and offering up way too many 5-on-3 s let alone 5-on-4s .
we were very lucky they didnt capitalize on all of those.
Lets Go Rangers.

"We are not a good team yet."

true enough- bad numbers and all- but really ;
its hard for our # 1 PP line to get out there and perform , especially when they are all trying desperately to catch their breath after defending multiple shorthanded situations, some of which were 2 men short .
way way too many undisciplined penalties and lackadaisical defense ( ie : Sandis Ozolinsch - please go far far away- for good ! ) & bring back kaspar already !

that's a good point, but the players on the top PP line are not the same on the PK line for the most part.

Rangers Cannot Leggo of Officiating
