back to back , on the road, for a slumping team that was originally looking forward to a road trip.

Tomas Pock should be the only one to stay, then bring up the entire defensive squad from Hartford. Fuckin statues.

    from NYR.com:

in regards to the Might Ducks of Anaheim :

LAST MEETING: Oct. 28, 2003; Anaheim 3, Rangers 1 at Madison Square Garden. Only one member of the Rangers roster that will play tonight was part of this game early in the 2003-04 season. That player was Ozolinsh, who was a member of the Ducks at the time and scored the opening goal for Anaheim.

    STRUGGLING RANGERS HAVE HAWK EYE
    By LARRY BROOKS

November 1, 2006 -- ANAHEIM - One of Tom Renney's most admirable traits is the loyalty he gives to his Rangers players. After last season, it's understandable for the head coach to have begun this year giving the benefit of the doubt to every veteran who contributed to the 2005-06 reversal of fortunes.

But it's gotten late early for the Blueshirts, who staggered through October without displaying mastery of any single facet of the game.

And as Renney well knows, his loyalty belongs to the franchise, not to any individual or collection of individuals wearing the uniform. The NHL is a tough, competitive business, made tougher by a salary cap that is brutally unforgiving.

As such, the time has come to cut the cord. Eleven haphazard games constitute a fair enough sample from which to draw valid conclusions.

Changes are necessary. The defense is a shambles without Henrik Lundqvist erasing all of the blunders. The forwards aren't collectively good enough without Jaromir Jagr consistently dominating. The team is far too slow on its feet and in moving the puck.

Fact is, the Rangers are not only 5-6 heading into tonight's encounter here with the Ducks, they are 5-15 in their last 20 games stretching back to last year's monumental season-ending collapse and playoff sweep by the Devils. Neil Diamond's sweet times never seemed so far away.

It appears that change is coming. The Post has learned that the Rangers and Blackhawks are engaged in serious trade talks. As was reported in this space yesterday, Chicago pro scout Marc Bergevin has been tailing the Blueshirts from coast to coast. Last night, the Rangers were scheduled to send two of their personnel people to the Coliseum to scout the Blackhawks against the Islanders.

Sources have told The Post that the name of veteran Chicago defenseman Jassen Cullimore has been prominently mentioned, but at the same time, informants confirm that the Blackhawks are mighty interested in Petr Prucha. The Rangers obviously aren't trading a promising 24-year-old winger coming off a 30-goal rookie season for a 33-year-old fourth or fifth defenseman.

The Blackhawks are at approximately $42 million in salary. The Rangers are close to that number. Cullimore, due to earn $1.9M this year and next, would bring a more physical presence than the Blueshirts currently possess on their blue line, but acquiring him makes sense only if the Rangers send either Darius Kasparaitis ($2.989M per through next year) - sent yesterday to Hartford on a 10-day assignment - or Marek Malik ($2.5M through 2007-08 ) to Chicago.

If Prucha, pretty much wasted this year skating primarily on a third line, is actually in play, the Rangers have to be seeking much more substantial game in return. Sources have suggested that the Blackhawks, shut out three straight times following the season-ending injury suffered by Michal Handzus and desperate for offense, might be willing to deal highly regarded 21-year-old defenseman Brent Seabrook, the 14th overall selection in the 2003 entry draft and an outstanding puck-mover, to get Prucha.

Should Prucha go, ice-time would open for Nigel Dawes, a scratch the last two games. The Rangers, who somehow are using fourth-line caliber Blair Betts as their second line center and marginal winger Jason Ward as their third-line pivot, would still need help down the middle, but the first remedy there is likely in Hartford in the person of Brandon Dubinsky.

Changes are in order. Loyalty has its place, but not at the expense of success. Renney knows that. So does Glen Sather.

    larry.brooks@nypost.com

personally, i like prucha- i hope they can ship malik out instead.

i was pretty concerned when i saw them glide Prucha off the ice-
 this guy bounces back like a superball.!

hopefully, tonight the Rangers can break the current trend of w-l-w-l 's .

as far as Brooks : true,.. some of his stuff is " bunk ", but at the same time,... he is a beat writer, he's been there for some time , and he does have some limited insider information . Same thing for Dellapina- these guys are the ones that are in the locker stalls interviewing players after each game. This report about Chicago has been confirmed from other sources , even ones out of Chicago .

    espn rumor central

1 - With the New York Rangers getting off to a shaky start, the team is reportedly looking for help on defense.
According to multiple reports, the Blueshirts have mentioned Jassen Cullimore as a possible solution. The New York Post reported on Wednesday that the Blackhawks are very interested in Rangers forward Petr Prucha in return for such a deal, a player New York will likely not want to part with for just Cullimore.

The Post speculated that the Rangers might want to send Darius Kasparaitis, who on Tuesday was sent down to Hartford for a "conditioning stint," or Marek Malik as part of the potential deal.

    WHO INTERESTED THE SKINNY

    Boston Vesa Toskala?
    Jocelyn Thibault?
Evgeni Nabokov? Bruins are shopping for goalies
Oct 30 - With Tim Thomas and Hannu Toivonen not exactly holding the fort, the Bruins are reportedly shopping for a goaltender.
While some reports out of Canada had the Bruins shopping for Evgeni Nabokov, his $5.375 annual salary is too hefty for Boston.

But the Edmonton Journal and Boston Globe both speculated that the Sharks' other netminder, Vesa Toskala, might be an option for the Bruins.

Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli told the Globe that he is making phone calls, but would give any other details other than to say that reports of the team's interest in Hawks goalie Jocelyn Thibault were untrue.

    WHO INTERESTED THE SKINNY

    Philadelphia Simon Gagne?
Jassen Cullimore? Is anyone safe in Philly?
Oct 30 - While rumors surfaced about Peter Forsberg last week, there were more reports over the weekend involving Flyers players and trade rumors.
According to a report in the Chicago Daily Herald, new Flyers GM Paul Holmgren is looking to make a big trade and Simon Gagne's name could be part of such a deal.

It seems no one is immune after the Flyers' 8-2 loss to the Penguins on Saturday. There was a closed-door postgame meeting and new coach John Stevens held a meeting a day later.

Several reports out of Canada also have Jassen Cullimore being part of a potential trade with the Boston Bruins.

    WHO INTERESTED THE SKINNY

    Nick Boynton
Coyotes Sharks? Boynton on the block?
Oct 30 - According to a weekend report from The New York Post, the Phoenix Coyotes were working on a deal to send Nick Boynton to the San Jose Sharks for netminder Evgeni Nabokov.
    The talks, however, broke down.

The Post reported that the Coyotes have been shopping Boynton, who was acquired via free agency this summer. The team followed by signing him to a three-year deal with an annual salary of $2.95 million.

big test sunday- Buffalo doesnt lose. !

Why the fuck do they schedule a 5pm game on a Sunday , during mid- football season , i don't know why- but i'll be doing the remote control excercises Sunday- for sure.

Hollweg has been a hitting machine -along wth churning up the team energy-- he will surely be up for ( and probably win ) the Steven MacDonald extra effort award later in the season .

And what a pick up Cullen has been. This guy flies ! All the forwards looked good- Betts, Straka , hell even Hossa was strong on the puck .

The Defensive unit actually looked cohesive and proficient last night- they held Thornton to absolutely squat- along with Cheechoo. They were all over the puck like white on rice. They pressured from the neutral zone- and didnt allow any flow for the Sharks whatsoever- they were stifled .

And I said it before the Sharks game- they should definitely allow Weekes to go until he loses- or gets blown out of the net- and i agree this will get Henrik pumped up - it seemed he was allowing some soft goals ( over his shoulders ) that he just didnt seem to allow all of last season. Weekes was confident and cool- just stood his ground and allowed the pucks to come to him .

    whew.......this Sunday
thank god the Giants are the early, 1pm game, so as not to interfere with the 5pm Rangers game .....

wouldnt it be sweet if we can hand the Sabres their first regulation loss this season, and not go down 0-2 to them .

    THIS HAS NOT SHAKEN ME'
LUNDQVIST DETERMINED TO FIND MISSING FOCUS AFTER BENCHING
    By LARRY BROOKS

November 6, 2006 -- He watched from the bench as Kevin Weekes was in goal for the third straight game, but Henrik Lundqvist is hardly ready to step down from his throne.

"I know that Kevin has worked really hard to be ready, and that he's played well the last two games, and I understand that Tom [Renney] has to do what he feels is best for the team, but I'm just focusing on being at my best when I go back in there," The King told The Post before last night's 4-3 OT Garden loss to the Sabres. "I'm working as hard as I can in practice."

Lundqvist, a finalist for the Vezina Trophy as a rookie last season, has stumbled out of the gate as a sophomore.

He's allowed four or more goals in six of his 10 starts after allowing that many only nine times in 50 starts all last season.

His 3.57 GAA and .878 save percentage are both near the bottom of the league after his 2.24 GAA and .922 save percentage were near the top last season.

But it's more than that. For this year, Lundqvist has surrendered an alarming number of bad goals after a freshman season in which he allowed maybe a bad one a month. The bad goals are always killers for NHL goaltenders and their teams.

"I feel like I'm playing OK, but I'm making one or two mistakes a game that I don't normally do," said Lundqvist, who worked for an hour at yesterday morning's optional practice.

"If there's one thing that maybe I can point to, it's that I'm losing my focus at times because I've been thinking about our team's play instead of just concentrating on my own.

"It was very easy for me to focus last year because we played such a solid game. Now, I don't know, I think I'm playing well, and then I make a poor decision and a deflection or screen goes in, instead of hitting me.

"It's frustrating, but I have nobody to blame but myself. I just have to focus even more on my responsibility and nothing else."

The Rangers had won two straight behind Weekes to close their western trip, 4-3 in OT in Anaheim and the 3-1 in San Jose. Renney said that the choice to go with No. 80 again last night was both a reward for Weekes and a message to Lundqvist.

"Kevin earned this opportunity," the coach said. "At the same time, I think it helps Henrik identify with the reality that he's not guaranteed the net.

"I talked to him [on Saturday], and he was very good about it, as I expected. He recognizes that competition is healthy for both Kevin and himself, and for our team.

"I know he's anxious to rediscover his game."

Lundqvist returned to New York from Sweden in mid-August and began practicing a month before camp opened. He repeatedly said that he expected his second NHL (and North American) season to be more difficult than his first.

"I worked hard to be ready for the start of the season," Lundqvist said. "I think I've been sound technically, but as I said, I need to be more disciplined mentally during the games.

"I just have to cut down my mistakes. I know I can do it. I know I can play well. I'm still confident in my ability.

    "This has not shaken me."

Jagr OK after landing on surgical shoulder
Jaromir Jagr reported no pain in his surgically repaired left shoulder yesterday, after having jarred it in a fall to the ice during the overtime of Sunday night's 4-3 loss to the Buffalo Sabres at the Garden.
The Rangers' captain landed on his left elbow 3:10 into overtime, driving his arm up and into the joint that required extensive surgery in June to repair ligament and tendon damage suffered during last spring's playoffs. He said after the game that he initially was alarmed but felt no pain by game's end.

The Rangers had yesterday off and return to practice today to prepare for a three-game trip that begins tomorrow night at Florida.

i was scared shitless at the end of that last game- he skated back to the bench- looking exactly like he did against the Devils Playoff game last year- his arm hanging close to his body, and obviously in pain and injured . Glad he's okay .

Also was reading all the local papers--Newsday in particular- and I am hearing about the Rangers possibly putting Kaspar up on waivers. I hope this doesnt happen- and I realize the team has done alot better without him in the linenup- but I like the guy. I met him at the Pearl Jam Show back in 2003 at MSG and he is a really cool guy. :(

 Leetchie , on the Flyers ?

gosh i hope MSG / Fischler are way off with this one,...

    http://www.msgnetwork.com/content_news.jsp?articleID=v0000msgn20061106T214447613&newsgroup=ap.sportsml.columnist.article&sports=ice-hockey&team=other&league=nhl

    Stan Fischler

Bluelines (11/6): Unbelievable Sabres; Leetch a Flyer?

    Nov 07, 2006

One theory on Colin Campbell's rejection of the Flyers' GM job is that he's waiting for the managerial spot to open in Toronto. If so, Coly is in for a long wait. John Ferguson is doing a fine job and his bosses know it; which, really, is what it's all about.

If Calgary slips too far behind Edmonton, Darryl Sutter won't sit on his hands; especially if folks like TSN's Darren Dreger stay on the case. "In Calgary," says Dreger, "there's a sense of urgency. An urgency to change. Jim Playfair has played his hand with the support of Sutter. Whether or not Playfair stays in the game depends on how the players respond." And whether the Flames-Oilers gap widens.

Could You Believe Dep't.: Taylor Pyatt suddenly has emerged as a meaningful player in Vancouver. Full credit to Dave Nonis for figuring that the Tall One would mesh so well with Henrik and Daniel Sedin. The hulking 6'4", 220 pound left wing ideally compliments the twins.

Shea Weber won't win the Calder Trophy but the Nashville rookie is our favorite unheralded defenseman.

Jason Pominville has 13 points in 14 games thus far. (AP)

Just Wondering Dep't.: How come nobody but Darcy Regier wanted Jason Pominville?

Whether or not Ed Belfour punched out Alex Auld – as some reports suggest – is less relevant than how well the Panthers play from here to Christmas. We'll go with Auld's reply: "Ed's been one of the best goaltending partners I've ever had. We get along great on and off the ice." And if they don't, who cares – except for Jacques Martin, an ex-goalie – as long as his Floridians win!

Best Rumor of November Dep't.: Dan Alfredsson to Los Angeles for Craig Conroy. Of course, it was denied by John Muckler, who has strenuously gone to bat for his so-called leader. A question that continues dogging Alfie is whether the sweet Swede has the goods to be Ottawa's captain. (Well, at least Dan is a good interview!)

No other pro athletes do more good things than hockey players. The latest example is Evgeni Malkin. The Penguins rookie recently paid to fly six-year-old Dasha Tusaeva to Moscow. Born with one arm, Dasha required an operation, which Tusaeva's family couldn't afford. Malkin footed the bill!

Betcha didn't know that Anaheim center Andy McDonald's first job was as an assistant to the turkey vaccinator at Cutty farms outside of his hometown of Strathroy, Ontario. However, we're not sure why a turkey vaccinator would require an assistant.

A very smart man's assessment of Maxie Afinogenov: "He's the poster child for the new NHL with his speed and skill." As Jimmy Durante would have said – or sung-- "Deny that if you can!"

Can Brian Leetch visualize himself as a Flyer? Better still, can Flyers' fans visualize BL in the orange-and-black? There are some Broad Street savants who can see it happening. Others believe that a Flyers-Flames deal could bring Roman Hamrlik to Philly.

Speaking of the Flyers, on the assumption that Ed Snider is looking for a GM, here's a simple question: Why not Neil Smith? Then again, there are those at Wachovia Center who question whether Peter Forsberg is the right choice as club captain. Following the excellent leadership of retired Keith Primeau is a heavy task.

Good Move Dep't: Hurricanes name Ron Francis the club's Director of Player Development. By the way, Ronnie has been lauded so often, he no longer can be rated "The most underrated player in NHL history." So, who is? Red Kelly. And the most underrated two-way player in today's game? Brendan Shanahan, whose defensive game is overshadowed by his goal-scoring.

Where will Brian Leetch end up? (AP)

How come a solid defensive forward such as Clarke Wilm can't find NHL work and has to emigrate to Finland?

According to our gal in Calgary, Debbie Elicksen, only two Flames are "pulling their weight," Jarome Iginla and Matt Lombardi. "But," she adds, "not enough to lift their teammates."

Ominous Observation of The Week: From Roman Hamrlik: "Sooner or later Darryl Sutter is gonna make some moves." Yup, and it may be you, Roman!

Sad News Dep't.: Darren McCarty is battling to keep his Stanley Cup rings out of a $6-million bankruptcy hole.

Neil Smith's insight into the plight of contemporary general managers: "There's not much maneuverability. In the old days, we made mistakes and we buried them. You can't do that now." Just ask Darryl Sutter.

Larry Landon's Professional Hockey Players' Association continues to do good work for minor leaguers. The PHPA just announced the election and appointment of three player reps to the exec committee: Dennis Bonvie, Jean Marc Pelleter and Shawn Thornton will join Doug Lynch and Erik Westrum on the Association's AHL board. "These gentlemen have spent years within the PHPA fighting for player rights," says Landon. "We're thrilled to add this combination of passion, leadership and experience to our Executive Committee."

John Muckler said it on the air that the Senators' poor record in close games "is a coaching thing," and Bryan Murray is in the last year of his contract. Sooooo, what happens when you put two-and-two together?

A word of serious advice to Bettman, Inc. from a veteran ice exec.: "You can't take contact out of hockey. If I want to see figure skating, I go to the Ice Follies."

Gotta give Jay Feaster credit for a funny line after John Tortorella said his voice sometimes falls on "deaf ears." To which the Lightning GM shot back, "Then we ought to get the deaf and dumb out. I wish they'd identify themselves to me and let me move them on. I'd rather see them gone, than a helluva good coach!"

In case you were wondering which actor Nik Antropov would like over for dinner, it's hockey nut Jim Carrey. "I loved ‘Ace Ventura'" says the Leaf. "On TV, I like to see fishing shows."

It's fair to perceive a similarity between Ray Shero's Penguins& Slats PRE-Cup 1980's Oilers. "Like Edmonton," says the Pens' GM, "we have a young, talented group that loves to play and likes each other's company. But those Oilers were incredible and we have a long way to go."

    You'll never guess who's the NHL's best penalty-killerChris Higgins !

The 15th annual RBK Hockey/ECHL All-Star Game & Skills Competition is slated for January 16-17 at Boise, Idaho, home of the Steelheads.

Don't yawn when you hear this but there's serious talk that construction of a new Pittsburgh arena could start next Summer!

The minors are going hi-tech. Exhibit A: Brad Treliving's 15-year-old Central Hockey League is partnering with industry leader ONEsite. The pair is launching ‘myCHLteam.com,' a new digital community designed to increase and enhance fan, player, team and league interaction

I'm wondering now more about them trying to unload some of the Defensemen we have been showcasing right now ( Ozolinsh ) - which could only be the reason we havent seen Pock in like 10 games now , and the imminent release of Darius Kasparaitis- ( maybe to waivers then possibly not getting picked up ? ) :?:

surely someone out there will take him . ?

interesting stats in the post today about all the playtime the veterans are ammassing . especially in relation to other teams ( some more successful ) who don't have even 1 player clocking that high.( ie : Buff )
