The Panthers will be without their second leading scorer Nathan Horton as well as one of their other main offensive weapons, Cory Stillman. But the player to watch for Florida is David Booth, who has scored three of their last seven goals and seven in the last eight games, including all three goals in a 3-1 win over Anaheim in the first of those games.

Back-up goalie Craig Anderson will be in net after having replaced starter Tomas Vokoun during the Panthers' last game against the Devils, a game in which the Panthers erased a 2-0 deficit in the final two-plus minutes of the game before losing in overtime. Anderson has only made eight appearances this season, but his goals against average is a full goal lower than Vokoun's (2.01 to 3.01) and his save percentage of .942 is excellent. Anderson, you may recall, posted consecutive 1-0 shutouts last March to bolster Florida's ultimately unsuccessful playoff push, stopping a total of 93 shots, including 53 against the Islanders.

yea. but we've seen that before and end up getting disappointed in the end. where in that same span they would give up 4 or 5 goals.

Zhederev has seemed to really come alive .
He is a magician tonight- one of those plays going right in , unassisted, over the blueline, weaving and stickhandling without missing a beat thru a throng of 3 or 4 Panthers.

for some reason, i still don't fully trust zherdev. very wishy, washy with his attitude, and he is clearly playing for a contract right now, that is why he "chooses" to play well? glad he is performing right now, but i'd like to see how he fairs long term.

i think it's pretty obvious that without hank, this team would not have more than 10 wins.

on that note, lets bring this road momentum home :)

  • The high school game that followed today's debacle was a much better display. Today's mess was a complete domination by the Panthers. The Rangers may have had 37 shots but nothing really to speak of in terms of major quality chances.

the Rangers start December with a trio against teams in the top ten in the league and will face teams in the top half of the league standings in twelve of their next fifteen games, which includes a three-game west coast road trip. They then embark on a five-game trip at the conclusion of the fifteen-game stretch. Of course, this might not be such a bad thing -- they are currently 6-2-1 against the top fifteen in the league, and just 6-4-1 against teams in the bottom fifteen that are not located in Florida (5-0 against Tampa and Florida).

Faced with a choice between a rock and a hard place -- being a healthy scratch as a Ranger or going for a conditioning assignment to Hartford -- Petr Prucha chose to stay in New York. His agent said he thought he could help the team right now if only he was given a chance -- and who couldn't help the Rangers' moribund power play, let alone a guy who has registered 40% of his career goals and points on the Rangers' power play? Why the team would want to try to revive him in Hartford instead of having him try to revive the power play is a mystery. But what is no mystery is what happens to players who defy Glen Sather. In other words, it's time to start a pool on how long it will take for Prucha's days as a Ranger to end, and I'm betting sooner rather than later.

On a day the Rangers spent on off-ice issues, the news reports are all about Prucha's decision -- see Newsday, the Journal News, Record, Daily News, Post, and Ranger Rants. In the reporters' blogs, Rangers Report quotes Tom Renney apparently blaming the media for the power play's problems and then explains here how he was not blaming the media (among other tidbits from practice), and Blue Notes renews the call to sign Mats Sundin. As promised, NHL.com's Atlantic Division Notes pays a bit more attention to the Rangers with a segment on Michal Rozsival, but still has a lot of ground to make up. CBS Sports introduces its weekly power rankings with a note about the Rangers' shrinking division lead. At WP.com, Wolf Pack Weekly. And, according to an AP report, Moscow officials have doled out blame in Alexei Cherepanov's death to two people who have already been held accountable for it.

There will be more from Russia for us to read regarding Cherepanov at Beyond the Blueshirts, no doubt, just as there is a partial translation there today about Artem Anisimov. Laurie Carr, the author of BtB, gets a rare hockey write-up in the New Yorker of all places. Forgive us if we pat ourselves on the back a little for this one -- we got Alec Wilkinson, the author of the Talk of the Town piece, together with Laurie after Alex came up with the idea for the article. Both are Blueshirt Bulletin subscribers. We're proud of Laurie for becoming the prime source of translations from Russia on Ranger-related topics and Alec for getting her and a hockey story into the New Yorker.

Petr Prucha is back in the line-up tonight, the power play will be on the spot again, the Pens will be be without their starting goalie but sport the league's top two scorers, including the red-hot Sidney Crosby, and Sean Avery is back in the news again, to no one's surprise. All of this along with a plethora of media links and lively discussion about the power play and Avery can be found today at Blueshirt Bulletin+ -- click here to read BB+ if you subscribe to Blueshirt Bulletin and have registered for BB+ access. i know they are a cool 7-1 for the year.
