The 2008 New York Yankees

More talk on Matsui to the SF Giants today. In the NY papers. No complaints out of me as I always thought Matsui was overrated. I'd take Damon in left 10 out of 10 times. Apparently he was asked to waive his no trade to go to SF. Now lets see what we get in return.
Maybe Matsui just wanted to return to a team named the Giants. SF is closer to Japan as well.PJ - 36

per rotoworld:
Hawkins made a lot more sense for an NL team. He was just in the AL East in 2006 and finished with a 4.48 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 60 1/3 innings for Baltimore. Last season, he fanned 29 in 55 1/3 innings for the Rockies. In his career, he has ERAs of 6.45 versus Baltimore, 5.79 versus Boston, 4.53 versus Toronto and 4.43 versus Tampa Bay. His best WHIP against any of the four teams is a 1.47 mark.0 -
yeah, he's not that good. I'd rather have seen them work some kids into the mix (Horne, Jackson, Ohlendorf) At least if they stink, they're stink at the league minimum. That said, i really am intrigued to see how Girardi treats his bullpen. If hawkins signed last year, with torre here, he'd have pitched in 100 games.0

Anyone know when single tickets will go on sale?... and the will to show I will always be better than before.0

good question. They used to go on sale before Xmas, which was smart. The last few years I think it's been Jan or Feb0

Alex finalized his deal. And says Boras was the one who told him to opt out because the Yanks did not want him. And he didn't know it would be announced during the world series.I miss igotid880

me? no way. i just like to pass along information, that's all.
hope the yanks enjoy paying a-rod $30mil+ (not including luxury tax) in 2009-2011.0 -

It is actually pretty smart i think. He should be performing at his peak during that time. The way the contract is set up being front loaded would make the possibility of a trade more feasable down the line if AROD decidedes he has had enough of NYCharlotte 00 | Charlotte 03 | Asheville 04 | Atlanta 12 | Greenville 16 | Columbia 16 |Seattle 18 | Nashville 22 | Ohana Festival 24 x2 | Atlanta 25 x20 -

I love how Boston fans hate him, but if that trade for Manny went thru, they'd all be slobbing his knob0 -

Well, we'd have the guys who finished 1,2, and 4 in the MVP voting this year. You'd have to admit a lineup of Ortiz, A Rod and Ordonez would be freaking scary.- Busted down the pretext

so essentially we traded hawkins for vizcaino. vizcaino just signed for two years with the rockies.Reading 2004

I guess I'd rather have Viz for two years over Hawkins for 1, with the money being essentially the same. I think the only good thing you can say about the Hawkins signing is that it's just for 1 year. I hope some of the AAA kids are ready to step up for a relief role, or else The Yankees are in trouble with Farnsworth and Hawkins. Spring training should be fun. We'll see Horne, Jackson, Ohlendorf and a whole heap of others auditioning for gigs in the bullpen, which we almost never get as Yankee fans0

i'm not entirely sure how it works with new stadiums, but i'm under the impression that the yankees don't have to pay the luxury tax during those years.
if that's true, it would explain the front-loaded contract.
it wouldn't explain the ten years, but that's a different issue...0 -

got a sandwich pick out of it too.
of course, they could have kept darrell rasner on the roster if they hadn't signed hawkins. i'd take rasner over hawkins. i'd certainly take rasner over bruney (who was retained for 2008).
i'm not saying that rasner is a great pitcher, but i expected him to eat a lot of those innings that hughes, kennedy, and joba wouldn't be able to throw.0
