I remember being a 10 or 11 when they were so bad and thinking how could a team that had Ruth, Mantle, Gehrig, DiMaggio and Berra be so fucking bad..Reading 2004

lol...the Kevin Maas years?
Remember Brien Taylor? The dude was such a prick at Albany Yanks games whenever we tried talking to him before games. I'm glad he broke his hand and was out of the league.24 years old, mid-life crisis

I think the AC Yanks left town sometime around 1994, so I missed a few of those players. I do remember Bernie though...got his autograph on a card. I think I remember Deion Sanders passing through.24 years old, mid-life crisis

I went up to an Albany-Colonie game when I was in high school. Probably 1990 or 91. Met a whole slew of players from the yankees and the Orioles AA team, the Hagerstown Suns. The highlights were Bernie and Mussina. Very cool place to see a game0 -
Tonight's starters: Guthrie (7-4) vs. Wang (13-6)
Tuesday's starters: Cabrera (8-12) vs. Karstens (0-2)Brian0 -

deion came to the plate and made a $ (dollar sign) in the batter's box and fisk didn't like it. i remember that too.
i didn't watch the 8th or 9th, but looks (sounds) like the yanks squeeked out a win.
i can't imagine that the o's would have been playing back in the infield (or if they were, why) with 1st and 3rd (melky) and one out, even with the chance of a double play. then again, i didn't see the play.0 -
AllNiteThing wrote:Great Yankee weekend! Boston is going down the tubes. Forget the wild card...we're taking the whole thing.
if the yanks play .700 or .750 baseball the rest of the way, yes, they will win it all...and by all i mean the al east. not the ws. but to be completely honest i (and probably some of the yankee fans in this thread, at least the semi-rational ones) don't see them playing like this for the rest of the season.
the thing is, the sox aren't playing terrible. i think we're 4-5 games over .500 since the all-star break and we've won a large majority of the series that we've played in, but the yanks are on fire. no, they are molten lava hot. as a team they are batting something insane like .329 as a club which is obviously ridiculous.
the pitching we got from daisuke (7ip, 4h, 1er, 7k), beckett (8.2ip, 8h, 2er, 8k) and schilling (6ip, 0er - 2nd outing since coming off DL) was awesome this past weekend. if the sox (er, gagne and the overall terrible hitting with risp) had swept the o's or even took 2 of 3 there wouldn't be this "the sky is falling" and "it's 1978 all over again" retarded mentality with the weak minded idiotic red sox fans and the local media jumping all over and it drumming up a story. yanks fans know how dumb local media can be when it comes to baseball coverage. they hit 8 hrs but a-rod doesn't hit his 500th. i mean, come on.
*** EDIT *** saw the highlights last night and there was NO way roberts was throwing anyone (even giambi or bengi - i mean jose molina) out at home. jeter put the ball in a just about perfect spot. *** EDIT ***0 -
They only have to play .750 ball if the Red Sox play .720 ball. The Yanks can play .530 ball and win the division if the Sox play .500 ball. There's also a bunch of games left between the two teams. Remember August 2006?0

i understand your logic, but that's a dumb way of thinking. to just say "a .530 winning pct the rest of the way" and sort of just expect the yanks to do it.
also, remember that the sox team was hammered with injuries in july, august and sept of 2006? that's no excuse to get swept in a 5 game series, i'm just saying.
it will be fun with both teams at almost full health to go head to head for 6 games that mean something (not that the other 13 this season didn't, just too early in the season).0 -
Looks like the Yanks have decided to rest Clemens and he wont pitch until Saturday. So we still get a great match up tomorrow night:
P. Hughes vs. E. Bedard
Wish ESPN was carrying that one tomorrow night. Damn you Peter Angelos! O's games are blacked out here on the baseball package unless you have MASN which is not available on cable, only satellite. Was watching last night's game unfold via ESPN News. O's by the way are playing good ball. Every since they dumped their manager they have played well. Back to back games they cause Gagne and Mo to blow saves. That's not exactly a couple of chumps (although Gange has looked bad since coming to Boston).Brian0
