I was wondering why Melky came in for Damon. Caught some of the radio broadcast on XM on the way home and heard them mention someone grabbing their leg after going back to the wall to watch a HR sail out. Guess they were talking about Damon. Had forgotten about it until reading your post.
They said he had some "leg cramping" in both legs. ..."...like a word misplaced, nothing said, what a waste.."

A win is a win. Albeit an ugly one. With the pitching be a bit shakey right now they really need the defense to step up to take a little pressure off them.
Great to see the bats get going too. Kazmir is a good pitcher.

Damon was unavailable for today, ( had they played ) Cabrerra would have been in centerfield.
Only the 2nd game, and Damon is already injured ?
that cannot be good.
I love Melky and all, but still.
maybe they should reconsider and give Bernie a call already, wtf ?For the ones who had a notion, a notion deep inside

I'm not a bernie basher. i like the guy a lot, but he can not play center anymore. too much of a liability. If the yankees had a good DH spot available id be all for bringing bernie back to spell the OF's from time to tiem and play a lot of DH. With Giambi entrenched there that won't happen. Sad because i like bernie.
Looks like damon might be headed to the DL they were saying he came to the clubhouse limping pretty bad.Charlotte 00 | Charlotte 03 | Asheville 04 | Atlanta 12 | Greenville 16 | Columbia 16 |Seattle 18 | Nashville 22 | Ohana Festival 24 x2 | Atlanta 25 x20 -

i agree- but they can shift him into right field , then shift the others , and so on , and so on .
Not every night, but like you said, give the regular guys a rest here and there.
Its a long season, but Damon already hurt doesnt make me feel any better. For the ones who had a notion, a notion deep inside

What disturbs me is the pitching staff...
Pavano... eh, he was mediocre, Andy was injured last year, and he's what, 38, Moose is getting up there too, and who are the 4th and 5th starters? I don't even know...Wang is on the DL... that's not good. I've been kvetching for years about getting younger/more reliable pitching...:-/"...like a word misplaced, nothing said, what a waste.."

They are working on getting younger. Hughes will be here in the next year or so and they made a couple of deals durring the offseason to get younger arms like Sanchez and Ohlendorf. Pettitte is only 34 (will be 35 in a couple of months). Mussina is 39, Wang just turned 27 a couple of days ago, and Pavano is 31. Not dreadfully old, but yeah, no young stud arms in the rotation right now. Hopefully they can give the Yanks 7 good innings and then turn it over to what should be a pretty good bullpen.
With Wang out, the fourth starter is Kei Igawa and fifth will probably be Darrell Rasner but they wont need a fifth starter for a while. And then there is the looming question of where Clemens will sign.Brian0 -
i hate rain outs. :(
but this one works out well for me because i have tickets for tomorrow's game... and now i get to see andy pettitte's triumphant return.0 -

his "cramp" somehow turned into a "strain" during the off day. this is the same thing that happened to wang during spring training and to cano last year. not a good sign...

cashman has already said that he won't be calling bernie williams if damon goes on the DL. bernie wasn't in camp and therefore they have no way of evaluating where he's at. as much as that sucks, cashman's totally right. he should have reported to camp if he wanted to play. they'd probably call up kevin thompson or kevin reese, possibly bronson sardinha.0 -

they should have jeff karstens coming off the DL at some point, too. they can slot him into the rotation right away.
igawa and rasner are starting against baltimore on saturday and sunday (i think). should be interesting.
keep an eye out for tyler clippard. he was impressive in spring training.
then at the lower levels, they have guys like dellin betances, joba chamberlain, and ian kennedy... all from the '06 draft. cashman has done a great job of stockpiling the organization with top pitching prospects. the future looks good in this area. betances may have hughes-like potential.0 -
i strongly dislike john, the radio guy.
i feel sorry for the ballplayers.
cory lidle's son knocked it outahere opening day.
who will buy the team when george dies? the 1960's will return then.0 -
