Its self-righteous and wasted energy for me to try and change your mind.

Im more interested in the fact that a smart man such as yourself is able to seperate the fact that what something is in its state of origin and what it becomes later are somehow not related.

The cells in the womb go on to create Human life, the ones on our noses sluff (sp) off and dont have the ability to create a thing.

Its not logical to me, your line of reasoning...thats all.
Maybe you could explain it better.

Those flaked off cells are important food for other species, are they not?

A log has the potential to become a door or a nice piece of furniture, does that stop you from stoking your fire?

How far do you want to take this potential stuff? That blastocyst also has the potential to become miscarried and a useless decaying mess. It has the potential of becoming stem cells used in therapy.

^ you are entitled to feel that way. That's you and your belief, it's fine with me.
I don't care what you believe in...but you are intolerable of the things other people believe in and that is wrong.

    I'm pro-choice, I'm not intolerable.

I'm alone, at first, in what they want to call a waiting room.
Well, at least I have a TV.
But it's so loud, and there's no remote and I can't turn it down.
All I really want is to think.

I want to think about this for the last time.
I want to be sure that it’s something I lack.
I want to want this thing that’s inside me.
I want to get up and leave and never come back.

Oh dear God, I want to get this over with.
Oh dear God, I want someone to talk with.

Another woman walks in, and sits beside me in this makeshift room.
Like me she is wearing nothing but sneakers and socks and a gown.
    We don't speak at first.
We're too busy looking each other up and down.

And then she does this thing that makes me want to cry.
She says, "This your first time, honey? You don't look like you belong".
And of course she's so right.
But I wish somehow that I could tell her she's wrong.
This thing that has happened, it's so wrong.
To think it just happened one night.
So I tell her, and she's nodding her head.
She looks at me with sympathy.
She says, "41 and it's your first time.....my oh my, you poor thing."
Then she turns to the TV and says, "I can't hear it, is there a remote?"
She finds it and turns The Judge up louder, while my words get stuck in my throat.

    I don't say anything.
I just think about this whole thing.
Then the nurse calls my name, and I'm gone.
Just like that, this thing is gone.

And here I am a year later, still trying to think that this thing was all wrong.
A year later, and I still hope that getting rid of this thing wasn't wrong.
A year later, and I know that I'll forever be singing this song.
Was I wrong? Was I wrong?
    Feels Good Inc.

I'm pretty sure Zarathustra was a man. I asked you just the other day if you were Zoroastrian and you replied "Just converted". Had you been Zarathustrian at any point in your life, you'd know who Zarathustra was. Zarathustra/Zoroaster was the prophet of Mazda, the first uncreated creator of all things.

There is nothing inherently special about human life.

i love, love, love this statement. i will not pretend to know the reasons behind why ahnimus made it here, but for me, it is the absolute truth. and i say this as a true LOVER of life, living, being alive and ALL that encompasses....with great respect and reverence for simply *being* alive, here......and all else too.

all that said, i am not a vegetarian, i am pro-choice, i do on occasion squash bugs, etc. so i am not fanatical about keeping things 'alive' simply to be 'alive' per se. however, i do believe as stated, there IS nothing inherently special about human life...meaning: it is no more special than any other life. WE, as a species, put a higher value on it...b/c we ARE human, and thus think we're pretty damn special. in the scheme of things, most species protect their own, so it is purely logical. we are much more highly evolved thinkers, and thus can make up many more *reasons* for what makes us so special, and important...or whatever other arbitrary rationale you want to put behind it. some may even argue that humans invented *god(s)* to justify their own self-importance over other creatures. maybe, maybe not...i don't even want to get involved in such an arguement...

however, yea.....since we ARE such highly evolved thinkers, which is brilliant and amazing...and can add so much further *value* in our own minds to our individual lives, perhaps more enjoyment, whatever......but yea, why would we truly believe, objectively, that our lives are more valuable? why should one think a cluster of cells perhaps a few days old.....have such inherent value simply b/c they possess the possibility of forming a human life? why?

there are instances time and again where we as a species show utter disrespect for so much life...even of those of our own species, existing right now out in the world.....so why? i can think of countless examples and i do just wonder, for such evolved thinkers, why do we think we're just so damn *important*...? seriously. the world would keep spinning without each and every one of us. just a thought.

also, don't mean to derail this thread...but it does seem to have gone off on a few meandering tangents, and this statement just SO struck me as right on....that i simply had to address it.

i LOVE being alive and all it encompasses, but yea i do realize....my life is uber important to ME...perhaps to those who care about me.....perhaps to some degree who's life may intersect and/or affect mine and vice versa....and even if i were uber *important* to our species, even still, in the scheme of *LIFE* as in.....with a capital L....it really isn't *important*...and i don't think of that as negative, or fatalistic...but merely...i am a part of life...and life is a part of me...and so the cycle goes, etc, etc............so yea..........

We humans are pretty damned impressed with ourselves. Understandable, I suppose, but if you stop to think about it, it doesn't really make much sense. I won't start up with the eggs and acorns again ;), but I don't see how destroying something that might someday become a baby is the same thing as killing a baby.

oooooooooooooooo...i LOVE the acorns and eggs analogy! :D

but yea, our whole concept of such 'self-importance'...well, if you remove that, it certainly changes a lot of things. in my mind, for the better. for this discussion, it really does so *fit* into how we may view it all and why...but really, for so much that we do, how we think, how we choose to live.....yea.......it really is mind-boggling.......

i know i was born, i know that i'll die
    the inbetween is mine
    i am mine
    :)

btw - i find oftentimes when i compare children and pets....in the psychology/care of such, looking after, 'training' if you will...oftentimes, many people get pissed off with me. and in fact, that pisses me off. there are great, great similarities, and i say this from an informed/educated opinion...of both species.....and care.....so yea........hahaha. it's all that *importance* creeping in again......:p

kinda like when i question, in conversation, the practice of leaving a dog unattended, tied up or not tied up, outside a store...especially on a busy street...and i ask 'would someone do that with a child?...so why with a dog?' etc, etc, etc......
