tonight's debate

  • It's painful listening to anyone talk about "I want to cut spending" or "I'm against pork-barrel spending and earmarks" like a week after the $700B Bailout was passed with $140B worth of pork on top of it.

Never mind all the billions of dollars prior to the package in bailout money.

In the last debate, McCain was all over this pork barrel spending about bear DNA, and his joke was "I don't know if this was a criminal case or a paternaty case" .... well, guess what, McCain voted FOR it. ha ha ...

anyone notice McCain couldn't remember the 3 things Brokaw asked him to prioritize? and when he did eventually write them down ... he couldn't prioritize them?

Yes. I believe Tom Brokaw also just said, "I'm going to shoot the next motherfucker who speaks for more than a minute."

Come on, think of the advertising dollars. We don't need answers, we gotta get this thing done as quickly as possible.

  • And a stunning blow landed as Obama employs the "use it or lose it" argument for drilling in Alaska.

nervous reaction/anxiety habit. some people tap their feet, rub their hands together, hold something in their hands, or blink. kind of like externalizing the internal unease. I've studied it.

Is there any way to impose this 1 minute speech rule?

I'm not going to able to watch for another hour.

Is there a clear guy ahead at the moment? I'm a little nervous about how the night will go for Obama.

What? You don't like hearing the same sound byte answer to every single question?

McCain has given the same answer to every question thus far...I'm not sure anyone knows what the hell Obama is saying, but Brokaw wishes he would say it faster--and only during his turn.

    I don't like this format.

I think you can tell, the people in the audience are getting a little annoyed at both of them.

I think they realize they will be there for another 4 hrs if they both keep taking so long to answer!

I hate how McCain's flirting with Tom. save it for later. Brokaw is a clear McCain supporter, it seems pretty obvious. this is my speculation, don't know how true it is.

Apparently neither candidate wants to answer the question about whether they would impose a two-year deadline to come up with solutions for medicare and social security. Of course, what's the point of a timeline if the end result is a piece of shit plan that's done in two years. Oh, BTW, McCain sounds creepy when he says "my friends."

What had potential to be an incredibly important debate, a chance to really swing the debate for Obama, a chance to pull McCain back up to even in the polls, has proved to be little more than the same fucking drivel from the last underwhelming debate.

Obama's plan seems to be "don't rock the boat."
McCain's plan seems to be "maybe if I just keep saying the same things I've been saying all along and mention how much Republicans don't trust me, I can pull ahead."

Also, as an aside, PJ_Saluki, I just spit beer into my keyboard reading your signature. Gotta love Charles.

EDIT: After that "that one," remark and its accompanying smirk, we might actual see some fight in the candidates tonight. Here's hoping, anyways.

actually, as someone who appears on MSNBC often, I'd guess Brokaw is an Obama supporter ... if he's coming off in support of McCain, that's a good thing. Less people saying he was slanted for Obama.

McCain just said he was on a nuclear sub and it's safe ???? didn't he have skin cancer???

and yea I think McCain had melanoma wasn't it??

and now McCain saying more about "oh Obama voted for more pork," did McCain not just do the SAME thing??

Tonight McCain puts him away once and for all. The Ayres thing ends it tonight. The 40% voting for McCain will stay put. The 40% voting for Obama will too. The majority of the other 20% will go to McCain after tonight.

I know you've predicted a McCain win this whole time ... but there's no way. It's just not happening, as much as I would like for that to happen.

The country just seems to want a Democrat, any Democrat, in the White House this time around. That seems to be the m.o. in times of bad economy: Throw out whoever is in charge.

I don't really see anyway McCain wins this election, save Obama -- as the saying goes -- being caught with a dead woman or a live boy.

Does McCain think his voice and "my friend-ing" is soothing? Does Brokaw think the moderator is the star of this show?

    Here's what I don't like about Obama's health plan:

"If you already have health coverage, you can keep yours ..."

Well, thanks. I get mine through my company. You think my company is going to continue to pay for health benefits when the government is giving it away for free?

Uh, no. They are going to see it as a prime way to cut costs, and out it goes.

So I'm going to end up with some crappy government plan wherein I get to wait in line for six days in order to get my massive head wound sewn up. But, hey, it's free!
