What about all the people (like me) who have been members for a long time (I have #192xxx) and still haven't closer than row 20. We've been holding out hope that we're "next in line" for the really good seats. It'd be a bummer if they changed the policy before we got the chance to be front row or whatever. However the decision is up to the band and I respect everything that they do. I'm just happy that I'm a fan and am blessed enough to have seen them 15+ times.
Just a thought they used to allow you to only get tix for one show, why not go back to that strategy and then let you fight it out with all the Ticketmaster rift raft if you want to go to multiple shows.

Seniority is one thing. 10c tix at multiple shows just means the people who have the means are participate on a level playing field as all the others who want their pairs.
hehe...I gotta fuel this crazy fire...its bringin out some closet nuts!
And I refer to neither camp specifically....all in good fun...actually this is all pretty mellow compared to yesterdays frantic board.
No non-seniority tickets scored by this dude by the way...bummer. Congrats to all who did.

i'm with you there. i have 145xxx, and i've been as close as row 10 (once, albany '03), but i still haven't made it to the "promised land" just yet.
i'm more a fan of popular bands.. like the bee-gees, pearl jam
1. make the front row random, and do the rest by seniority.
2. limit 10C tix to something reasonable, like 15% of the shows on a given tour. so out a full 30-show US tour, you can get tix to 5 shows via 10C.
this is coming from someone with a low 100,xxx number who has been front row a couple times. but getting rid of seniority completely doesnt seem fair when it has been done this way for so long. plus getting rid of seniority is a huge green light for the scalpers to sign up and take their chances.

something like that would be cool. or for every 3rd or 5th pair of tix, they could randomize. that would put some new people up front while not screwing the long-timers too much.

good suggestions . . . so many folks in the first few rows are at almost every show. I spoke with two gals that have low numbers (low, low 5 digit, one might have had a 4 digit) and it seems like they attend almost every show. I don't know how they afford this, but they do. In 2006 I went to 11 shows and saw them at everyone.

I'm 265xxx and have been in the club since 02. At one show I was 9th row, and at others its varied from back of the floor, close side seats and in between. Its all been great. Recently I had the opportunity to witness how another band handles it. I saw Springsteen and what is done there is people with general admission tickets get a number wristband. Then there is a lottery done for getting into the pit, or front section of general admission, and the first x number of people (300-400 or so) after the number drawn are let into the front pit, according to the wristband they have. I am a long term (30+ years) fan of Springsteen but had never been up close. Through the lottery I ended up front row and center. You can bet I was enthusiastic, given that it was perhaps my one and only chance ever to be in that position. It was absolutely thrilling. I wonder if something along these lines would work with Pearl Jam?
On the one hand I can see seniority (I've slowly been working my way up) but on the other hand, length of fandom in some way does not necessary correlate with level of enthusiasm for band. Maybe something like the wristband method would give more people a chance to experience a show from the front.

If I didn't let my number lapse so many times I would be sitting pretty. Since I'm lazy I don't deserve the best seats in the house. If you showed up late to the party you don't deserve them either. The loyal fans that have stayed on the ball deserve them as long as they want them.
Once in a while you can get shown the light, in the strangest of places if you look at it right.
Circumstances have caused me to cut back on how many shows I can get to for each tour, still my 70xxx number has only gotten me to the front row once, and that was in my current hometown of Phoenix in 2003. The only other times I've been on the rail were for GA shows, and believe me I worked for those spots.
For all the other shows I've been in rows 2 through 6, depending on the city and the number of 10c fans locally. Since many of those in front of me usually seem too young to have lower 10c #'s than me I've come to believe that 10c somewhat gives priority to those who are local in addition to seniority. Just a theory though.
I hope they don't get rid of seniority. I'm old, fat and cranky now. I can't hit 15 shows per tour anymore so my 1 or 2 shows with good seats mean the world to me. And I don't have the patience to fight in the pit for GA shows without staving off the urge to stab some pubescent "No Fear" guy with my car keys.
Let the old lady stay down front or I'll hit you with my walker!!
I can't see them getting rid of the seniority as otherwise where's the incentive to join the Ten Club every year, maybe as a US fan but as an Australian or European who don't get tours every year (92-93 & 06-07 excepted). I also think it'd piss a lot of long time fans off so why would they want to do that. I do however think sometimes they could mix it up, especially for multiple city shows.
My PJ shows:
London 28/10/96, Las Vegas 11/7/98, London 29/5/00, Nurnburg 11/6/00, Prague 14/6/00, Salzburg 18/6/00, Verona 20/6/00, Milan 22/6/00, Zurich 23/6/00, New York 8-9/7/03, Boston 11/7/03, Reading Festival 27/8/06, Shepards Bush 11/8/09, Berlin 15/8/09, Manchester 17/8/09, London 18/8/09, Dublin 22/6/10, Belfast 23/6/10, London (HRC) 25/6/10, Alpine Valley (PJ20) 3-4/9/11, Manchester 20-21/6/12, Leeds 8/7/14, Milton Keynes 11/7/14 To be continued....
The high numbers are not bad here up north - had row 12 both in Halifax and Calgary. My number is 320xxx..
Had row 25 night 1 Gorge 06, then scored row 11 sec b from a long time fan club member at face value 10 min before the show. Ultra amazing - I am all for being up front - cant wait to see where I'll be sitting for Eddie in Vancouver since there is no senority.
Us high numbered folks need to experience the front now and again - I am so lucky to have.
Cheers

That's true, but if they don't do something there's less incentive for new members to join in the first place, maybe? It's (arguably) one of the big benefits of the fanclub and if new members see little benefit, they may as well flag it and try their luck with ticketmaster.
I think the value of the ticketing benefit has become diluted as time has gone on. Would it be so bad if they went back to one seniority fan club show per member per tour (or per leg, maybe)? That would make everyone's seats better for that one show at the expense of those members who attend multiple shows (what gives them the right to seniority at every show?). I guess it goes back to the "priority" show idea, which I've always thought seemed a good compromise (without thinking about the logistics of managing the process).
Edit: I should add the caveat that we don't get many shows down under and when we do, any fanclub seat is a good one (at least I think so) so it makes little difference to me. If anything, it would work against me. Just seems like it'd be fairer, though.
The closest I've been was row 20. I am usually on the sides. (10c #206xxx) being on the floor was a whole new experience. During the show, I walked up to about row 5 to take a few pictures - my eyes were as big as my open mouth. To see them that close was amazing, and the crowd was incredible!
Just once would i like to experience that.
I'm 206 also, and have had some awesome seats, usually on the side like you said. Uniondale 03 and Rutherford 06 particularly
I dont agree with the notion that people that just joined the club do not get the same benefit as the long time members do. I joined the club back in 94 when I was 15. The club didn't have seniority then, but the big benefit was having the ability to get 1st stab at tickets. Back then Pearl Jam was selling out shows in 6min. New members and old ones get the benefit of tickets first before the public and seniorty. Just think if you were not a member you might not get tickets or if through ticketmaster you might be on the lawn or nosebleeds. Seniority benefits us all, there are people in front of me at every show just like you.
"If Hope Could Grow From Dirt Like Me, It Can Be Done."
I wouldn't have a problem with choosing one "priority" show per tour that gave me primo seats based on seniority. I do NOT want to go back to the days where my membership only gave me one pair of tickets per tour however. The main reason I joined the fan club back in '92/'93 was because it was impossible to get tickets through ticketbastard back then. Not much better now either so the yearly membership in 10c is well worth it to me regardless of seniority.
"This is just a friendly reminder that your membership has either expired or is about to expire. PLEASE NOTE: You now have 3 months from the date of your expiration to renew and retain your member number and seniority. If you renew after the 3-month grace period, you will receive a new member number and lose all established seniority. Please follow the instructions below to renew your membership and retain your seniority status..."
Very refreshing to hear you say that. I never understood seniority seating, the idea that someone desreves the best seats every show because they are older than me. Oh, so sorry I did not sign up for the Ten club when I was 11!
