it appears you're on a crusade of your own ryan. for your own sanity, let it go. :) you're not gonna irradicate religion and it will take a personal crisis for a believer to change his/her ways. i know you think it's all based on lies or myth or whatever, but hey a whole lot of people live their personal lives based on lies everyday.

I know pretty much everyone here believes in the lie of free-will, and even non-religious people believe in the lies of Good and Evil. Ken Hovind is a cretin, from french alps word "chretien" meaning Christian.

I really enjoyed that cos there was a lot of stuff in there I did not know.

Can you comment on teh consistentcy of the birthdate of December 25. I don't know exactly when our currenrt calender was adopted, but my feeling is some considerable time after at least several of those births.
HOw was an Egyptian birthdate translated into our calender ??

The ancient calanders were Zodiacs or Mazzaroth in Judaism. This measure of time is found in all the ancient mythos.

December 25 is when the Sun rises from it's lowest point in the sky, where it remains for 3 days. Directly above the Sun in the sky is the star Sirius (taken from Osiris), also known as the Star of Bethlehem. Directly above Sirius in the night sky of Dec 24/25 is the belt of Orion, 3 stars in direct line with Sirius and the Sun, thought to be the three wise men.

Tried to find a better picture, but this is all I could find, take a look up at the sky on Dec. 25 to see it, I plan to :)
Sorry, that would be at 12:00 AM on Dec 25 or the night of Dec 24.

i know you are ryan. and you know i stand right by your side when it comes to religion.
i believe we can exercise free will up to a point. but everything out of our control constricts and constrains that free will. so i guess its pseudo free will.

as for good vs evil. i am an atheist and therefore do not believe in good and evil in the biblical sense as most people do. we are all capable of doing heinous things. and it is only the conditioning of society that stops most of us doing so.

Even more interesting, cos that makes trans-calender sense.

Remember that I live in the Southern Hemisphere, so the winter solstice is more like June 23 for us, otherwise known as Hogswatchight by the Pratchett fans like me, and the night I plan top light a massive bonfire I have ben buildign with my autumn pruning and assorted tidying of old logs.

I'm thinkning of mounting a burning man on top of that for addded effect !!!!

Christians chose that date because of the Pagan celebrations at the time. It was acknowledged as a day to celebrate rather than being the day of the birth of Christ.

They also copied the entire mythos of Christianity from other religions. There is not one unique quality of Christ, besides that he was depicted as a man in a monotheist religion. While all the others are well recognized myths

There is only one rationalization that's ever stood through time. Satan went around the world spreading myths about Christ 20,000 years before Christ's time.

Why is it that we don't accept "cults" in N. America, but we accept this...

Ah, but it does not matter what a person believes...

"It is of no matter whether or not the individual Jew is decent. He possesses certain characteristics given to him by nature, and he can never rid himself of those characteristics. The Jew is harmful to us... My feeling as a Christian leads me to be a fighter for our Lord and Savior. It leads me to the man who, at one time lonely and with only a few followers, recognized Jews for what they were, and called on men to fight against them... As a Christian I owe something to my own people." - Adolf Hitler

The rise of Hitler's Germany provides an interesting case in point, showing a nation swept by militaristic sentiment coupled with a sense of divine mission. The churches accepted Hitler's warmongering with religious joy. In April 1937, a Christian organization in the Rhineland passed a resolution that Hitlers word was the law of God and possessed "divine authority". Reichsminister for Church affairs Hans Kerrl announced: "There has risen a new authority as to what Christ and Christianity really are--that is Adolf Hitler. Adolf Hitler... is the true Holy Ghost." And so the pious gave him their blessing, and the churches gave him God's." (The Christ Conspiracy, Acharya S)

why do u people have such hate for something or for people who believe in it. just let people live there own way of life and stop trying to convert people into your ways, your doing the same thing religion does. your not fixing the problem your just adding more to it in this fucked up world. im not looking for a board fight or anything, just my 2 cents on this topic. guess peace and love only applies to the way u wanna make people think

For the most part on this board, that is the case. This thread has been alright so far though. There hasn't been as much demeaning of people with different beliefs as the normal thread on this board.

Do you really believe that ???

I have been far more wounded by words in my life than by sticks and stones. Fallling off (actually, I jumped as the fence approached) a bolting stallion was nothing compared to being accused of racial discrimination.

how interesting that you speak of peace and love and religion basically in the same sentence. the problem i have with religion besides the faulty premises it purports as truths, is how it has been co-opted for the supposed good and how that inevitably turns into a detriment. so much blood has been shed in the name of religion that it makes it difficult at times to see it as a good thing. my God is better than your God. my God is the one true God. isn't it enough people have faith. when did it turn into a pissing contest?

peace and love applies to ALL regardless of race religion gender age or nationality.
