it is beyond my comprehension how anyone could think of voting for a republican for President in 2008. To follow the policies on Iraq, the fact that we are in a recession and gas prices are ridiculous yet still vote for a continuing of these policies is absolutely mind boggling to me. I don't pretend to think Obama or Clinton are great choices but how can we possibly continue on this path?

I'll be honest, I've been struggling with this as well. I'm not too sure the tax cut policies and continued spending in Iraq is good. My vote is going to mccain as of now, more on the fact that obama/clinton are worse IMO. I will listen closely to the debates that happen later this year and I may very well change my mind.
  • oops..wrong thread...
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

Jeff I didn't see roland say that the holocaust didn't happen or barely happened.

I don't think it's right to call someone an anti semite for the sake of point scoring.
Have to agree with Mr. Moon here. This guy consistently bashes Israel on this board. Anti Semites today are found not in the actual verbal abuse of Jews. That became politically incorrect after that whole Holocaust thing. Today's anti-semites channel their hatred or intolerance into uninformed bias against all things Israel. There are a few like that on this board. We know who they are.

maybe you should educate her on what mccain is all about.

Really? Because I think Bush and McCain would both be offended by that remark. McCain has been a thorn in the side of the Republican rank and file for most of his career. He's fucking proud of that shit.

I don't know where this McBush shit comes from, because it really couldn't be further from the truth.

In March 2008, Dick Cheney was in Baghdad, calling the Iraq War a "successful endeavor." John McCain went there too, and actually uttered those four magic words, "the surge is working," which only differs from Cheney's analysis in the scary possibility that McCain might actually believe it. Then again, maybe Cheney's pronouncement can be chalked up to youthful exuberance -- after all, he's almost 5 years younger than McCain.

And then there's that other possibility, the one that's starting to scare me: That by a certain neocon definition, Iraq is a success.

What if the war in Iraq did go on for 100 years, as McCain suggested it might? What are we looking at? An entire century of ever-increasing military spending, necessitating deep cuts in all other government programs -- like public education and health care and all that other sissy stuff. A staging ground for ten decades of warfare with Islamist militants, for whom the place is becoming a terrorist fantasy camp ("Come to Iraq and fight real Americans in your own back yard! Get your picture taken with real al Qaeda pros! Learn the fundamentals of blowing yourself up!"). And endless, lucrative contracts for American companies that support the war effort, from Grumman to Raytheon to -- of course -- Halliburton. Companies that in the absence of a Cold War might otherwise see their prospects dwindling.

What about that is not a success, by neocon standards? I've been scoffing at it for so long that think I missed the point. It's not a question of if the surge is working -- it's about whom it's working for.

these Obama (and anti obama abook + kabong) threads are getting tiresome. lets talk about the candidate that is actually going to win. what do you think he brings to the office? what do you like/dislike about his policies?

easy on the 100 years of war. he meant that in regards to how we are still in korea, germany, and japan 60+ years later.

    http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/02/25/iraq.mccain/index.html

even for those who hate him, I think you better start giving him a closer look. at this rate, there is no way obama can beat mccain.

Word up to the man with enough cajones to start this thread on this board. Dunno bout McCain yet myself. Believe it or not I am a life long bleeding heart Democrat who has only cast one vote....ever.....for a Republican. And it was not George W. I will be thinking long and hard about McCain as will many middle of the road Dems if Obama is nominated. That's fact. Not opinion. Whether I vote for the man really depends on alot of intangibles that no one can predict. The war is but one factor. Ultimately, it IS about the economy stupid. The war is but one factor in that equation and I do not agree that pulling out of Iraq with no conditions attached is good for our economy OR the global economy and I do not trust any candidate who makes blanket statements about the War when it is a fluid situation. McCain is the most honest about the War of the three candidates, like him or not. So if the vote were today I would vote McCain. But I can be persuaded.

So anyone who criticises the illegal ocupation is an anti-semite?

As far as being uninformed...maybe you can enlighten us to the truth, seeing as you regard yourself as an original thinker?
