Firstly I'm not pissed AT YOU. I'm pissed at WHAT YOU SAID. And that's probably not even your fault, it has more to do with my expectations of you.
I would have expected that you were smart enough to see this for what it is. A complete and utter breach of someone's privacy (regardless of what a tool this dog guy appears to be) followed by people here completely losing the issue because they were convinced that the op was a racist. The very mention of the word nigger seems to set everyone off getting ready to pigeonhole and while they're busy doing that they get themselves all worked up and misconstrue things.
I made the analogy about you and the things you say about women, because as far as I can see, you readily admit when it comes to women, you have issues. You say and do things that are construed as offensive. Women around here have been offended by your comments in droves and you know it. You also know that I don't think that makes you a bad person or even a misogynist or even sexist. When it comes to the issue of women, your personal experience colors what you say. Once people understand where you are coming from they tend to see your point of view a lot of the time and as it turns out, your comments can be a little off sometimes but generally I think you don't hate women at all.
I also know that OLS isn't a racist, but he doesn't articulate himself very well, or use populist terminology when he posts. That seems to make it ok to label him racist and belittle him because people aren't even attempting to understand his pov. The problem isn't anything to do with OLS or you or me.
It has everything to do with people NOT taking a step back and attempting to understand each other. And lets face it, if we can't even manage it on a message board what the hell hope have we of re educating people about serious things like racism and freedom of speech and sexism and all those other shitty things that people do to each other? It's not enough to label it, assume what other people think and then dismiss them for what we perceive as wrong thinking. In order to CHANGE the way this stuff happens in the world we have to understand each others point of view and educate each other.
My conscience is clear ss. The only thing I'm not happy about with regard to myself here is I'm guilty of defending someone that I know to be ill that has difficulty articulating to others. But then I see that there's a lot of that going on lately, so maybe I shouldn't feel so bad about myself?

Employers have the right to censure the speech of their employees at will. i went after onelongsong becos he and i have a history and i am convinced every word he says is a complete fucking lie, so i try to fuck with him every chance i get. his stories get more incredulous every day, so i enjoy poking at him becos i am incapable of taking him seriously. i dont believe he's sick, nor that he's a cowboy, nor that he raises buffalo, nor that he's a famous rock star, nor that he saw god while dying and being resurrected, nor that he killed two men and beat a third with his bare hands, nor that he's an ultra-rich billionaire becos of his business smarts, nor that he's got a stockpile of artillery for when the government attacks, nor that i won't be able to buy smokes at 7-11 in 5 years cos the apocalypse is coming, nor that california will fall into the ocean any day now, nor that he's a licensed attorney who has won every case he tried, nor any of the other multitude of claims he has made. and i'm not alone there. you should have seen him struggling to string together a legit constitutional argument that a first year law student could have done... and he's a prominent litigator? if you bought his bullshit, then i feel sorry for you.
as to the breach of dog's privacy, i don't see it that way. i see it as his punk kid violating his privacy. sucks for him, but there's nothing illegal about it and it is a risk you take when you are a public figure. again, see linda tripp recording conversations with her friend monica lewinsky to turn over to the DA for money and some notoriety. esp when you're a public figure telling your kid he shouldn't be dating a nigger. his employer had every right to cancel his show when those comments went public. i think they're stupid for doing it, but it's their call. and his employer was not the one invading his privacy. if you become a public figure, your dirty laundry becomes public too. it's the price you pay.
